More than 300 high school seniors, representing schools from all across Erie, Ottawa and Huron counties, were recognized for their academic and vocational achievements Friday at Sandusky State Theatre, a farewell ceremony from the career center before the seniors graduate from their respective high schools.

Rye Beach Road rail crossing in the City of Huron will be closed June 3 through June 18 to accomodate repair work conducted by Norfolk and Southern, according to a news release from City Hall.

Norfolk Southern Railroad will be working on the tracks at Mills Street, Campbell Street, and Pipe Street June 3-18. These crossings will be CLOSED until the work is completed. Be prepared to take alternate routes.

On Tuesday there will be no parking on Warren Street between Monroe and Reese streets. Mid Ohio Pipeline will be replacing a gas main. There will still be traffic flow both ways but the parking will be eliminated to accommodate that. There will be signs, cones and flaggers.

PERKINS TWP. Perkins police are investigating the theft of four purses Thursday evening from area retailers. Sgt. Ed Hastings said there were two purses stolen from carts at Kroger, two at Meijer's and one attempted theft at Wal-Mart. It appears to be a crime of opportunity with those involved targeting women who turn their backs for a moment.

The crimes occurred throughout the city, Det. John Orzech said. "We don't have much to work on, on a lot of these," Orzech said.

FREMONT A Sandusky County jail corrections officer has resigned over allegations she had an inappropriate relationship with an inmate. Sheriff Kyle Overmyer said the female officer was placed on leave May 21 after information came forward about the alleged intimate relationship.

SANDUSKY The debut of Shoot the Rapids, the new water ride at Cedar Point, has been postponed again. Park spokesman Robin Innes said late Friday afternoon that Shoot the Rapids would not open for Memorial Day weekend as planned. It was scheduled to debut this morning.
