 FREMONT

As family and friends of Bryan Jones, 26, say goodbye today, the two deputies who shot him are back to work.

Jose and Mario Calvillo had been placed on paid leave after they, as part of a tactical team, entered into the man's home Sunday night. Authorities said Jones — who sat on the couch drunk, with a gun across his lap — raised a shotgun at the deputies and the deputies shot him to death.

Sheriff Kyle Overmyer said the Calvillo brothers have returned to work, although they are working in the jail with no guns in their possession.

It says that this young man's father heard six or seven shots after the cops went into the house.  Did the shots all come from the police officers? If so, I would certainly question why the police officers felt it necessary to shoot him that many times. Once again, this is really pathetic. Living with something like this, one might say his parents lives are over now, too.

The people of this world keep getting nuttier and nuttier everyday...there are those out there doing a job to PROTECT AND SERVE....US...you and me....yet they continue to get blamed for everything they do...no matter what the issue. I feel bad for this family buuuuuut like most have said....maybe they should have sought help for him before it got to this point if he was having mental issues. He threatened to kill his own mother and she asks for help and gets it now it is someone elses fault? I have to say...I respect all LE officer and the job they do....thanx. You point a gun you are asking for consequences that are not good for ANYONE.

Out of respect for this young man's family, I don't think these policemen should have been allowed to return to work until a full investigation was completed.

Excuse me, will it ever end, but you do realize that the Sandusky Register is a local paper and the front page stories cater to the local people? I bet that most here in Sandusky could care less if an officer dies in the line of duty in any other town. I am sorry that one of your fellow officers died doing a job that I am sure he loved to do. I spent 10 years in the military and I'm not whining that The Register hasn't covered every armed service member’s death from Iraq or Afghanistan. If the Elyria officer had ties to Sandusky, that may have been a different story. The Sandusky Register is short staffed, just like the Sandusky Police department, so they can't have someone every where all the time. If you think you can do better, BGSU has journalism classes that I am sure you can attend since you are retired. Better yet, how about you tell the "boys down at the office" to give out honest and accurate information when reporters want information? One of my neighbors when I lived in Richland County, who is an officer in Shelby, used to brag about how he would purposely give false information to reporters so the reporter would be the laughing stock of the story! That is a little unprofessional don't you think? Also, be thankful that The Register offer's these online discussions for free. Most other towns I have lived in have a fee for this. Oh, by the way, the "Discussion Guidelines" link does work. Chances are "the page cannot be displayed" is because of high internet traffic (usually happens on Friday afternoon's) or the "time out" setting for your browser wasn’t patient enough. The common causes for this are high internet usage, problems with a server, or something running on your computer that is causing the decoding process to slow down.

I think its unfortunate that this man lost his life. I extend my sympathy to the family in the the loss of a loved one. Yet, having said that this man was drunk, had a shotgun on his lap and was a threat, I do not see how anyone could say these deputies should not defend themselves. The man pointed the weapon at them. I really don't think they need wait for the man to fire at them before they took some action. Maybe they should have shot to wound BUT you not I were there and our lives were not on the line that evening. While I feel sympathy for all the killed man's family and friends I give 100% support to the men who were in the position to "protect and serve that night" and yes that means protecting their lives as well.

Questioning how this situation was handled should not be viewed as being demeaning to law enforcement in general.   I have great respect for all first respondersbut I have to ask.....what was the rush?   The deceased was alone in a house surrounded by law enforcement.  What factors entered into the decision to  after 90 minutes  flash bang the home and enter?

Who and what was the rank of the officer in charge at the scene?   Who made the decisions to enter the home?

To not be able to examine situations where deadly force has been applied leaves us open to abuse.

I am not saying this was a case of abuse, just that I have questions about how it was handled.

I do not know either the family or friends of the deceased or anyone from the sheriff's department.

lol.  This paper cracks me up!  Why do you keep deleting my comment?  Why don't you tell me what I said wrong and I will change it gladly.   Maybe I just wrote the truth, something you are obviously not familiar with.

I think CWelch's comment should be deleted because it is wrong and a lie.  I proved it and you keep deleting it.   RIP James Kerstetter!   I guess it's ok for those at the paper to continue to bash our law enforcement.    The moment we step up to correct you or set things straight you delete us.

I also checked your "Discussion Guidelines" and that link showed page not found!  So not really sure what I said wrong but the truth!

Yes, the newspaper would cover the death of a police officer who had been killed in the line of duty. We'd cover it with equal, if not greater, treatment than we have in this situation.

This young man's death was unfortunate.  My question is, would this alleged newspaper have three separate articles if a police officer had been killed in the line of duty?
