Wesley Griggs Jr., Sept. 28, 1915-Jan. 31, 2012

 Wesley Griggs Jr., 96, of Euclid, Ohio, and formerly of Huron and Castalia, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, 2012, in University Hospital following a brief illness. 

Wesley was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Vermilion, to Wesley and Mae Virginia (Handy) Griggs Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, with action in the South Pacific. He was also part of the Occupation Force in Japan. He was employed as a machinist at Apex, Birmingham Metal Products as a supervisor, and retired from New Departure Hyatt.

In his spare time, Wesley enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing.

Wesley is survived by his children, John W. (Kathy) Griggs, of Huron, Curtis Dean (Sherry) Griggs, of Huron, Stephen R. (Sue), Griggs, of Freedom, Ohio, Stewart A. (Janice) Griggs, of Vickery, and Julene Bishop, of Euclid; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister Vera Gorka, of Vermilion; brother William Griggs, of Vermilion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wesley was preceded in death by Gertrude (Keller) Griggs, and Wilma Griggs; sisters, Lillian Stone and Alice and Rita Griggs, in infancy; and brothers, Francis, Lyman, Norman, Robert and Richard Griggs.

Friends will be received 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3. Burial will take place in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
