BMV records show Ohio has fewer teenage drivers

Fewer Ohio teens are obtaining their driver's licenses, in a trend related to economic and other factors.
A Dayton Daily News analysis of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles records (http://bit.ly/y3SECO ) finds the state saw a 9 percent drop in 16- and 17-year-old licensed drivers from 2006 to 2010. The number of Ohio 18-year-olds with licenses fell 4.7 percent.
University of Dayton history professor John Heitmann says teens may be waiting to drive because the economy has made it harder for them to find jobs. He adds that technology has given them texting, Facebook and other ways to feel connected with their friends without having to get behind the wheel.
Heitmann teaches a class called "The Automobile and American Life" and has written a book by the same name.

Lots of teens don't work now & just have mom come & pick them up & take them wherever so they can sit & text or play games all day. Who needs to drive?

Yes, I can understand fewer young drivers, They are moving to a state that has jobs and a governor that is willing to support more jobs in Ohio.

"FEWER Teenage Drivers?? I have noticed a lot of these teens are driving "under suspension" not because of points, because of NO financial responsibility, can NOT pass the written test, driving without a license, can NOT afford insurance and the usual liberal free spirit to do anything thing they want because they are special and entitled. They have been cited once before and FAILED to show up for court."
Man Taxpayer, you are one heck of a stalker. Either that or your life just revolves around going from the Driver's Testing building and the courts. C'mon man.
@ReallyGood
Show some proof. I want to see the study or academic journal that says that in the state of Ohio the reason for a decrease in teenage drivers is because they have "lengthy criminal records."

FEWER Teenage Drivers?? I have noticed a lot of these teens are driving "under suspension" not because of points, because of NO financial responsibility, can NOT pass the written test, driving without a license, can NOT afford insurance and the usual liberal free spirit to do anything thing they want because they are special and entitled. They have been cited once before and FAILED to show up for court. You know the proverbial liberal, two-bit thug concept of "It will go away" so a bench warrant is issued and the state places them under suspension again and AGAIN! WHY should they abide by ANY laws? After all, you socialist, crybaby, liberals have a TAXCHEAT as the secretary of the United States Treasury under 0bama as a great example. Ha! Ha! These teens feel they are exempt from any laws and can NOT even stay in school to receive a UNION teacher education. What was that story about the number of dropouts in the state? Do you believe ANY of these dropouts can afford high risk insurance? Ooo, those EVIL big insurance companies. They MUST be racist, discriminating and they are to BLAME! The solution? Simply drive without any insurance. Who cares? Can any of you "progressive, social justice" liberals explain that? After all, how can they afford to pay for insurance while on welfare, section 8 housing, unemployment, more money for more babies, flipping burgers or being too stupid and dropping out of school? How hard is that for you liberals to comprehend? Here is a tip for everyone. You BETTER increase YOUR uninsured motorist clause if YOU have insurance. This story PROVES the odds are good you will be involved in a wreck by one of these responsible teens. YOU will end up PAYING for it! What are YOU going to do to them? File a claim in court? For what? They do NOT have anything! I present to you the ultimate, liberal, two-bit, entitlement, loser, insurance policy. NONE! What was that old saying again? You can NOT squeeze blood out of a turnip? Here is the definition:"You can NOT get something from a person, especially money, that they do NOT have." (Urban Dictionary). Get a clue!

Lengthy criminal records at 16? I don't think so.
Insurance alone costs about $100 per month. Our economy is in a depression in our area and in most of Ohio. Kids and their parents do not have the $$$ for insurance, driving school ($ 325) and automobiles.

Now, if we could only send the really bad drivers back to driving school, I would be a happy motorist.

I believe it. Only because the teenagers now a days have lengthy criminal records that keep them from getting a drivers license
