Obama plans trip to Cleveland next Wednesday

Cleveland

President Barack Obama is planning another trip to Ohio in this midterm election year, this time taking him to Cleveland.

In a brief statement, the White House says the president will be in the city on Wednesday to talk about the economy. The economy also dominated the president's last visit to Ohio, in mid-August.

He told neighbors gathered in a Columbus backyard that the economy is coming around "slowly but surely." Polls show voters are skittish about the sagging economy — and generally leaning toward the GOP in this fall's elections.

The Republican National Committee belittled the president's plans as kicking off a "Recovery Fall" tour following what it called a failed "Recovery Summer" of high unemployment.

Funny how Obama's speech today was promoting more stimulus dollars for "roads, rails, and runways" to a friendly audience. Great...we just might get that slow train to Cincinnati...that doesn't even finish near downtown.

 Here is what your Friedman unfettered free market capitalism did to Russia and a slew of other countries.

When the Soviet Union dissolved, he was out, Boris Yeltsin became Russia's president, he supported a corporatist state and adopted Chicago School fundamentalist "shock therapy" masquerading as "reform." Its former apparatchiks cashed in big along with a new class of "nouveaux billionaires" (called "the oligarchs") who strip-mined the country's wealth and shipped it to offshore tax havens. For the Russian people, it was another story. They didn't know what hit them in what was one of the greatest ever crimes by a government against its own people who still today are crushed by it. The toll was devastating and pandemic:

-- 80% of Russian farmers bankrupt;

-- about 70,000 state factories closed causing an epidemic of unemployment;

-- 74 million Russians (half the population) impoverished; for 37 million of them conditions were desperate, and the country's underclass remains permanent;

-- alcohol, painkilling and hard drug used soared, and HIV/AIDS threatens to become epidemic with a 20-fold increase in infections since 1995; suicides also rose and violent crime as well more than fourfold; and

-- Russia's population is declining by around 700,000 a year; unfettered capitalism has already killed off 10% of it; it's a startling condemnation of Chicago School orthodoxy and the man who triumphantly spread it in the name of freedom that's fake, ferocious and fatal

So it would be worse with the Repubs and it’s wonderful with the Dems currently running the show? LOL.

The only thing that report says is that neither party knows what the h*ll they're doin’. Tell me something I don’t know.

The Dems won’t cut spending and the Repubs can’t tolerate the political heat to cut either.

Pure and simple: Without spending cuts the future budget of the U.S. will continue to climb until it’s unsustainable and we have a Greek style fiscal crisis or worse.

In Greece they’re laying off public employees and cutting public pensions by 30%.

The U.S. is spending more than it brings in as tax revenue and it’s borrowing and printing the balance needed – it cannot continue on this reckless fiscal path forever. It will eventually collapse.

The Soviet Union's economy imploded from too much spending and too much foreign borrowing - sound familiar?

http://donklephant.com/2010/09/03/private-sector-job-growth-in-2008-2009-2010/Pretty straightforward.

Dems aren’t going to win any economic ingenuity awards, but we’re out of the recession, private sector jobgrowth is still holding on and we’ve got the shopping season coming up, which should drive even more.

But what if the Republicans had their way?

Well, let’s refer back to the Congressional Budget Office’s recent projections, as brought to you by Newsweek. Basically, the Republicans wanted to extend the tax cuts and that’s about it. What effect would that have on the economy?

Extending all of them, according to the CBO, would lower unemployment by 0.3 to 0.8 percent over the next year or so; extending them solely for people making less than $250,000 would produce a somewhat smaller effect, for a difference of roughly 200,000 to 500,000 people.

The problem, as economist William G. Gale of the Brookings Institution has noted, is that “of 11 potential stimulus policies the CBO recently examined, an extension of all of the Bush tax cuts ties for lowest bang for the buck.” In fact, he continues, “letting the high-income tax cuts expire and using the money for aid to the states, extensions of unemployment insurance benefits, [or] tax credits favoring job creation … would have about three times the impact … as continuing the Bush tax cuts.”

In addition, it’s unlikely that extending the cuts for the richest Americans would have much of an effect on small-business hiring, which is a claim that Republicans make with some regularity. Why? Because of the taxpayers that report running small businesses on their taxes, only 2 percent fall into the top two income brackets.* The other 98 percent of small-business owners make less than $250,000 a year and wouldn’t pay higher taxes under Obama’s plan

 I am not saying the big whigs at GM ran the company right. But you know from being in the auto industry Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota and the others share the same suppliers. If they were allowed to go under, a lot of these suppliers would have went under also. Ford would have been scrambling, along with the others to get parts, thereby putting them in jeopardy too. To call it a union bailout is wrong. There are a lot more non union suppliers than union suppliers.

Stimulus Package has Created Jobs, Boosted Economy

A new report released Tuesday by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office found that the stimulus package cost more than originally anticipated, and has also done more to boost the economy than any critic wants to give it credit for.

The report found that in the second quarter alone, stimulus spending helped to create as many as 3.3 million jobs.

That parallels with the Obama administration’s claim that the massive spending package would save or create up to 3.5 million jobs by the end of the year.

On the low end of the scale, the stimulus package created at minimum 1.4 million dollars in the period between April and June.

That flies in the face of claims made by Republicans that the stimulus package did not create a single job.

"One year later, one thing is clear: the stimulus bill has failed. One year later, not one net job has been created,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) claimed back in February.

The measure also saved the economy from falling into an unemployment rate of higher than 10 percent. According to the report, the package cut the unemployment rate by as much as 1.8 percent.

Over that same time, the Recovery Act also boosted gross domestic product by as much as 4.5 percent

My apology for the mistake,  General Motors said two months ago that they had paid all their stimulus package back.  I do not understand why it would be good for the taxpayer owening 61% o any part of a corporation.  I heard the ceo of GM make that statement, on a number of news networks, why did the story get totally sidetracked after one day.  Please try and explain  to me why Ford Motor Company did not take any of the stimulus and is making a significant amount of money, last but not least the president did go to other car manufacturers and tell them that the only reson Ford is creating a profit is because of the stimulus.  That has to be the most blatant lie that  he has told this week.  You are keeping the glued to the computer.

Table 1 (on page 5) provides a broad summary and Table 2 offers a detailed breakdown of the budgetary effects of the two pieces of legislation. CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that enacting both pieces of legislation will produce a net reduction in federal deficits of $143 billion over the 2010-2019 period. About $124 billion of that savings stems from provisions dealing with health care and federal revenues; the other $19 billion results from the education provisions. Those figures do not include potential costs that would be funded through future appropriations (those are discussed on pages 10-11 of the cost estimate

brutus smith,

The first thing that I would like to say, I was a member of two unions and was to be elected for union president, prior to my election I changed jobs.  I once again was employed by union factory for approximately nine months, and moved into a management position, so I am very familiar with unions and the workings of unions.  in the first place every new car you buy has a minimum of $1200.  To pay for employee benefits, these benefits were negotiated by the UAW and Ford Motor Company, the unions said that if they did not get the contract they want there would be a strike.  if you would notice the states that have the largess unemployment are union states with large corporations.  When the president and the democrats approved the stimulus package which was not read in its entirety by anyone who voted for it, things really fell apart.  By the way you can check this fact by reaing the newspapers.  The stimulus partially went to General Motors and Chrysler, by the way the government still owens 70% of  General Motors.  This can be checked out also.  The president said when the stimulus  passes the unemployment rate would not exceed 8% interesting it is now between 9 1/2% an 11%.  That is very easy to check out.  The president said in his speech that GETMO would be closed by the end of the first year.  It's been almost two years and it stale is open.  That also can be checked out.  The president said that the detainees would be prosecuted in New York City, that's still hasn't happened. that also can be checked out.  The president said that the new Healthcare System would be neutral deficits this is another issue that can be checked. this is a problem, the congressional budget office nonpartisan has already made it clear that this is Not going to be deficit neutral.  That can also be checked out.  There are many more areas that I can go into if you would like that can be proven.   I would like you to know that I think that you are a (Patriotic American) make no mistake about that, there are issues that we have that we may never resolve.  We have al right to agree or disagrees.

 After reading your comment, I have come to the conclusion ,you have to be one of the most ignorant and uninformed democrats  that I have ever heard of.  If you would like to speak about  rightwing nuts, you should understand that they do read newspapers, watched numerous TV News broadcasts, listen to talk radio, vote on every election, and then communicate with our representatives, we do not need to cry because we are man enough to stand up and do everything that is within our power, and our constitutional rights to rectify the situations, unfortunately it's quite obvious to me that the only reason that the democrats and the president got elected to office, is  because most of the liberal people in the United States cast their vote without knowledge of the candidates the constitution and the responsibility that our representatives have to us.  If the president would quite catering to the unions and to states like, Ohio and Michigan and other states that are liberal we would not have the situation that we are in.  I thank God that very shortly we will have  the opportunity to replace a bunch of ignorant politicians that  are for the money and not the people.  You must remember this is a representative Republic, which means that our representatives are here to represent every person that is American citizen.  I am a Vet.  United States Army, I served my country ,to gave you the right to, be as ignorant as you would like to be.

I do give you credit you do know how to capitalize the word God, there is still held for you if.
