Kucinich urges public hearing on Davis-Besse's planned restart
Nov 23
2011
U.S Rep. Dennis Kucinich has asked the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to host a public hearing so Ohioans can ask questions about FirstEnergy's plans to repower Davis-Besse.
In a letter he sent this week to the regulatory commission's chairman, Kucinich said FirstEnergy has a history of placing profit ahead of safety at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. "A public hearing is necessary because FirstEnergy has been characterizing the situation at Davis-Besse in ways that I believe are misleading,” Kucinich wrote.
The facility has been shut down since last month, when workers started replacing the nuclear reactor head. During that process, they discovered 30-foot cracks in the shield building, which houses the containment building. Inside the containment building is the nuclear reactor.
FirstEnergy has said it plans to power the facility back up by the end of this month.

These facilities operate on a high factor of safety. Everbody (including Dennis the Menace), have a good and safe Thanksgiving holiday and quit worrying.

Taxpayer is a good example of what is wrong with todays republicans. He thinks it's bad for people to want to make sure Davis Besse is 100 % safe before powering back up because it interferes with there corperate profits. The right think any regulation to protect the American people = bad.
@ Taxpayer, I love your comment about the the bible "You might read the Bible and get a clue about the armies of the East and West.", while in the very same post make fun of Kucinich for claiming to have seen a UFO. So you're saying your invisible, imaginary friend (God/bible) is better than Kucinich's. LOL.
@ Taxpayer, your "God" also Told Cain, Bachman, and Perry to run for president. I guess he was just messing with two of them :).

"You might be begging for some of that nuclear generated electricity if something happens in the Middle East"
Why? Electicity generation has nothing to do with oil and the Middle East. As is always the case, Taxpayer is trying to blame liberals and unions, for a problem associated with corporate greed.

I would be very careful about demanding D-B be closed down. You might be begging for some of that nuclear generated electricity if something happens in the Middle East. Now WHAT are the chances for that to happen? You might read the Bible and get a clue about the armies of the East and West. And WHERE does our environmentally correct oil come from? Not from the U.S. Oops, not from Canada either. WHO blocked the Keystone XL pipeline using UNION labor until after the election? WHO is blocking any new mining permits for UNION coal miners? Does that make you UNION saps "FEEL GOOD" about yourselves and who you voted and PAID for? Where is that UNION solidarity? Ha! Ha! I do agree it is very unusual for Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to be involved in an issue in the middle of our own 9th Congressional District. Oops, isn't he challenging a fellow liberal, spending democrack, our own Marcy Kapture (D-OH)?? I completely agree, none of us would see our liberal buddy Dennis involved in an issue in the middle of our Congressional District unless there was a UFO sighting. Ha! Ha! He is gearing up for a fight, liberal democrack against liberal democrack, (the best kind) for the survival of his political career. I guess you liberal freaks must have forgotten about WHY UFO Kucinich lost his Congressional seat. Let's review. Ohio lost TWO U.S. Congressional seats because people have decided to FLEE Ohio. It is EXACTLY the same reason why people are trying to FLEE the city. Is that sinking into your liberal brains you sit on yet? Ha! Ha! All you liberals will be left to PAY more taxes. "Raise our taxes so WE get MORE! When do WE want it? WE want it NOW!" (Liberal UNION freaks, Springfield, IL 2010). You liberal democracks might want to contribute to Sherrod Brown's campaign fund. He will also be in the fight for his liberal, political career. I can't wait for these campaigns! You have to love this great republic we live in. FOUR MORE YEARS! Ha! Ha!

Sadly, I believe your views may be correct.
Maybe we need to set up a petition to somehow force REAL ACTION.
I NEVER have trusted First Energy, they are opportunists and liars. I spoke once with Mr. Star, he was the VP of Ohio Edison. He was a PRO at sidestepping issues brought before him. His answer to me over several issues was, "What we have and have done is legal' Then I asked and persisted to insist and answer from him concerning if what that particular instance was about was MORALLY acceptable. He got up from the table and walked out. Since then I've never trusted Ohio/First Energy companies.
Also, after 9-11 I emailed D. B and wanted clarification concerning terrorist threats and what they are doing to secure their boarders. I recieved an email that was typical PR.
I do NOT trust this company, I no longer trust this plant, and even our Governor stated that they basically lie when it serves them best.
SO, HOW DO WE THAT BELIEVE THIS PLANT IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY SHUT IT DOWN?
I know the surrounding area want the tax moneys, but thats too bad. Try speninding money that is radiated.

Public hearings are just a formality to make the people feel better and to get their frustrations out. The establishment always goes ahead and does what they think is best anyway. Public hearings are all show and PR to the taxpayer. Most public hearings are mandatory. If it were not for the mandate, they could care less what the people have to say in a public hearing.

GOOD !!
First Energy:
The utility company who didn't maintain the trees around Lorain and they shorted out the entire eastern coast and parts of Canada, SHOULD WE TRUST THEM?
The utility company who sold 3 cent per KW programs and PROMISED that this would last the life of the homeowner, this year they canceled it and electrical bills are trippled. SHOULD WE TRUST THEM?
The utility company who somehow couldn't see these cracks for years, who had only a 1/4 in thickness left on a 3" Cap that covered the rods, THIS IS THE COMPANY WE SHOULD TRUST to not COOK US for PROFIT?
I'm not anti nuclear, BUT my trust in First Energy is as high as their earned reputation has allowed, ZERO.
Im HAPPY that our Governor said his mind which everyone has believed for years, FIRST ENERGY LIES and will continue to do so. I do NOT trust them,
