About 100 Ohio farmers and property owners have driven tractors and other equipment in a protest parade against the potential shutdown of a federal Farm Service Agency office.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/ArWgQl ) the FSA branch in Brookville in western Ohio has been targeted for possible closure twice before in the last dozen years.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to close five of Ohio's FSA offices and will decide which ones by the end of the summer.

The head of the Farm Service Agency in Ohio says cutbacks are necessary because federal funding has been decreasing.

Ummm...seems like the farm community isn't against subsidies/government intervention/mandates. I wonder who they'll vote for in November? (So many voters have their priorities ALL messed up.)

I WANT MY SUBSIDIES BUT I DON'T WANT ANYONE TELLING ME HOW TO LIVE LIKE THOSE DAM DEMOCRATS. I KNOW...I'LL SEND MORE OF MY PUBLICALLY-FUNDED PROFITS TO THE RADPUBLICANS.

give me a break!

Morning Kurt-

The Department of Agriculture has used set-aside and several other programs over the years to protect farm land thus American food production and maintain commodity prices for all of us.  The problem is not the programs for family farms it is the multi-national corporate farms that have invaded over the past two or three decades.  Again, as these corporate companies became aware of the government funds available they moved in.  Again it appears to be "capital" that is benefiting and not the family farm.

One can argue the economies of scale in food production and if it is true then it may not be so bad.  But to give these corporate bodies federal funds to profit off taxpayers just seems wrong.  Like any other business they should be allowed to fail.
