time to take the gun safety course guys

johnathonwelch

Other than being 20' into city limits police said we were completely safe

John Harville

A responsible gunowner knows where s/he is and what the laws are and abides accordingly.

Might want to lay low... if railroad gets wind of this, the issue suddenly could get much larger.

Dwight K.

Well atleast it was into the air and not at a person

Actually , shooting into the air is just as unsafe , because what goes up must come down .

johnathonwelch

Actually we didn't even shoot in the air, we shot into an open field a shot gun has hardly any range at all.

That's good to know . I live out in the county, so hearing gun fire is pretty common . Occasionally though you'll get someone who's drunk and start popping off rounds after dark to show off for friends . That's a good way to get the sheriff to pay a visit though . Especially at 1 AM , but it happens . ; ))) Anyway be safe and have a good time.

John Harville

Shooting into an open field... wasn't that what Dick Cheney was doing when he shot his shooting partner in the face?

SamAdams

An old friend of mine who was employed as a roofing inspector told me how much he loved people who celebrated holidays (or whatever) by firing a gun into the air. When the bullets came down, they frequently put holes in roofs. While that's good for the roofing industry I'm sure, imagine the hole a falling bullet could put into the much softer flesh of a living, breathing something or someone!

johnathonwelch

yea well look at where we were and the gun we were using thats not even possible in my case lol

Mum-of-One

Just another example of poor gun control. How could someone be so dumb as to believe it was ok to "test your gun" while within city limits. This nation is supposed to be civilized. I guess you can't fix stupid. I'm glad he is not my neighbor. How can stupid people get guns so easily?

johnathonwelch

why don't you get some FACTS before talking about others "MUM"

Hunting occurs all over this county, and IN CITY LIMITS... If you guys were shooting into a field, no big issue. I hope you plead NOT GUITY, BUT, you guys admitted you did it, on this site. Pay the fine, get out and hunt, with licence.Ignore the simpletons on these sites, and remember, whenever the LAW is involved, don't write on blogs... BE FREE, AND KEEP YOUR GUNS CLOSE...

johnathonwelch

thank you, we pled guilty this morning and paid the fine, just went to pick my gun up, the evidence guy told me if we were 20' forward we would have been fine and perfectly legal....and i agree people that comment on here just hide behind a keyboard its funny and sad at the same time

TheIrish

Have you ever shot a gun Mum? Do you own one? Do you know where the "incident" took place? Were you there? I think you ought to learn some manners before you publicly bash people and call them derogatory names. I have no idea who either of these guys are, but I will tell you one thing, there is not a fence surrounding the city so sometimes it is a little difficult to determine where the city limits begin and end. Even the auditor has difficulty defining boundaries sometimes... What makes you think you are so smart anyhow? Shooting is a hobby for many sportsmen, and I would also like to point out that with the influx of real criminals into the area, many of which illegally carry arms, I think it is smart for citizens to own and learn how to operate their arms. You never know when you might find yourself between a criminal and a person that means a lot to you. Give the guys a break, they discharged a short range shotgun into an empty field they grew up next to.. At least they were not sifting through your jewelry box..

johnathonwelch

thank you

Just Sayin IMHO

Well said! Gun control only works for those who follow the law. Criminals could care less. If someone is coming at you, would you rather:

1) Cry out "STOP" and hope they turn and run away?

2) Hold out your hands as they slash away at you?

3) Pull out your gun and say "Not in MY house! Not MY family!"

I choose 3.

John Harville

IMHO... speaking an opinion from personal experience? Or just sayin' what you THINK you would do? INMYHO, if you haven't actually faced the experience, you don't know what you would do.

chances are someone with a shotgun this inexperienced was testing their gun out with the cheapest ammo around, since you don't want to waste money on the good stuff... this means they were probably using bird shot... which it's velocity reduces to nearly nothing after a few down yards... it would fall from the sky with the same amount of force as bird poop.

irresponsibility and critical thinking skills are lacking in society today. if people were more educated in the balance of cause and effect we'd see less trouble in all areas, murder, theft, and assault included.

guns, knives and baseball pats arent the problem, the lack of education is.

onegirlarmy

i want a baseball pat...lol...glad no one was killed

kURTje

What did YOU do at that age? Yeah it was dumb; & thankfully no 1 was hurt. Yet you oldsters forget also......geez.
