Months ago I had something similar.  They asked for my husband and was wanting to work out a payment plan for his loan repayment.  I asked numerous times what kind of loan this was and that I KNEW he had not taken out a loan.  Said they were contracted by the GOVERNMENT to reclaim student loans. (my husband is in the military and never had a student loan).  THey wanted ME to give them his social so they could verify his information.  I told them NO, to tell ME the social security number and I would tell them if it was my husband.  They then gave me a number to call back and  told me to have MR. So-n-so to call back.  Mr. So-n-so was a DIFFERENT name and not even close to our last name.  When I questioned them they told me they had a wrong number.  I then googled that phone number at it was a PHOTO booth in a parking lot of a shopping plaza???????  People really need to be careful and pay attention to WHO calls.  NEVER give out information to ANYONE.  In this day and age there are TOO Many scammers and cheaters.  (never knew I was supposed to call the police about these things though)

Hello

I had something similar months after my divorce was final in 2006.  My ex and I had shared parenting of our kids instead of child support.

I got this crazy call that I was in arrears of my child support and owed $15,000 and if I would give my checking account information so they can see if they have the right one, they can set up auto pay for my child support payments.

When I asked them to give me a number that I would call them back with that information, the man hung up on me.

I immediately went to my bank and told them about the phone call.  They advised me to close my account and open another one that would have different account number.  A couple days later, someone tried to withdraw $30,000 from the old account.

BEWARE OF PEOPLE CALLING ASKING FOR INFORMATION.  If they are legitamit, they will allow you to call them back and have that info to read to you not vice versa.
