We sympathize with Fremont Mayor Jim Ellis. He didn't create the Fremont Reservoir project and he didn't cause the enormous burden — in the neighborhood of $45 million — in cost overruns from the project initiated by the city just a few years ago under Mayor Terry Overmyer.
The Plum Brook Station in Sandusky was created from 9,000 acres of farmland in 1941 to produce explosive powders during World War ll. Later, the agency that evolved into NASA bought the property for rocket and space exploration research and operated NASA’s only nuclear reactor.
As farmers harvested the largest corn crop in history this fall, prices fell to a five-year low, nearing $3 per bushel. Since then, bargain hunters swooped in, helping prices to bounce back, a welcome change for farmers.
