Sherrod Brown's tireless press people

Americans like to imagine that government workers have it easy.

I suppose some of them do, but I don't think that applies to U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown's press staff. I'm beginning to wonder how they do so much work.

Every member of Congress, Democrat or Republican,  has a press staff that churns out press releases sharing the lawmaker's accomplishments and deep thoughts. They take phone calls from reporters and answer questions.

On July 24, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman's staff posted four press releases on his official website. That's a pretty good day's work.

On the same day, Brown's staff posted a whopping 18 press releases. "Sen. Brown Applauds U.S. Department of Agriculture's Appointment of Ohio State University Professor to Board of New Research Foundation." "Sen. Brown Announces More Than $50,000 in New Federal Resources to Train, Support, and Protect Firefighters in Stark County." "During Hearing, Sen. Brown Urges Congress to Protect Social Security Which Helps Lift 22 Million Americans Out of Poverty." And on and on and on.

I know the press staff takes phone calls and fields questions, too, because they are quite good about getting back to me when I have a question. When I need a statement for a topic that's not covered in a press release, they can usually get one within a few hours.

But now I feel bad about giving them even more work. I imagine Brown's press staff trying to slip out the door at the end of the day, hoping the boss won't stop them for "just one more" press release.

Really? It's just that Browns people are posting more propaganda than anyone could possibly digest in 1week.

JACKEL

That whole Senate is full of crap. Our two and Reid are the most full. Brown is such a phony, just go to his voting record .

Yes sour, we know, you would have rather had that little weasel Joshie Mandel in Sherrod's seat instead. Difference is, Joshies "press staff" would have consisted of him putting his underqualified frat brothers on the payroll...you know, sort of like what he did with the Treasurer's office.

Wjones44

I'll take Josh Mandel who is a former Marine over that loser Brown any day. Mandel is far from a weasel.

tk

You can have him. We've got Brown thank God.

Wjones44

Brown has done so much. He's right up there with Kaptur. Liberal losers.

tk

Brown and Kaptur both won, so I think that makes Mandel the loser.

Erie County Resident

Only reason that Brown and Kaptur won is the union hacks put them there.
They are both yapping do nothing morons. All they do is look for photo-ops.

The Big Dog's back

The only hack here is you.

Was Bergdahl a marine or in the army? You correlation that a marine makes a perfect representative is flawed. God bless his service but a good rep he would not have been.

I fully support Senator Brown. He is a wonderful senator.

Brown is indeed an excellent Senator - one of the 5 or 6 best.

I was skeptical about Sen. Brown until I noticed how much work he put into keeping the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (a.k.a. The Lima Tank Plant) open while Jim Jordan continued to pretend to be a representative. After Brown did all the heavy lifting Jordan and Portman made time to stop in for the photo-op. JSMC will be in jeopardy again and I'll wager that Brown will be busting his butt while Jordan and Portman continue to take the day off with pay.

Brown is an idiot

Takes one to know one. Nah nah.

The man's just got a talent for spewing large amts. of political propaganda.

Obviously, when Sen. Brown was majoring in Russian Studies he gleaned a wealth of ideas from the Bolsheviks.

FORWARD SOVIET!

What nonsense.

TO THE EASILY AMUSED PERSON WHO WROTE THIS COLUMN - HAVE YOU EVER HEARD that TALK IS CHEAP? YOU'RE PRAISING PRESS RELEASES? Is this a joke? hahahahahahahahahahaha

Mr. Brown has voted for 14 straight years - every single year - to run up America's debt to the cumulative tune of $3.7 trillion dollars. It's easy to be popular when you're constantly handing out goodies with money you don't have. Bet there were no press releases on that. Below are his "yes" votes on bills and what those bills cost annualized. It does not represent what was actually passed when voted upon by the entire chamber.
Brown's RECKLESS spending:
107th Congress (Jan 2001-2003): Voted to give the kids $798 billion bill
108th Congress (Jan 2003-2005): Voted to overspend 574.6 billion
109th Congress (Jan 2005-2007): Voted to overspend 1.77 trillion
110th Congress (Jan 2007-2009): Voted to overspend 175 billion
111th Congress (Jan 2009-2011): Voted to overspend 280 billion
112th Congress (Jan 2011-2013): Voted to overspend 44 billion (can also look at it as 44,000 million-dollar stacks)
113th Congress (first half): Voted to overspend 18 billion (or 18,000 million-dollar stacks)

And don't try deflection tactics on this either. Well Bush was president or the republicans did this. I don't have a feeding tube in EITHER party. I don't care about Bush, his father, brother, second cousin. Doesn't matter. I don't believe in groups or labels. I am not a lemming who jumps off the cliff. This is about each MAN and WOMAN in Congress and what decision THEY PERSONALLY make.
