Time to get dog tags running out

The end of January is the deadline to get dog tags for your mutt in Erie County. If you've glanced at a calendar lately, you've perhaps noticed that time is running out.

If you get caught with an unlicensed dog, you could face a fine and a hefty fee for getting a tag. But there's also a positive reason for taking care of business. If your dog is tagged and escapes from your yard, the police can figure out who the owner is and get him back to you. If the authorities can't find you right away, the dog pound has to hold your dog for at least two weeks.

Dog tags may be purchased at the following locations for $18 a tag, $90 for a kennel license. The price has not gone up for several years. Tags also may be purchased online at www.eriecounty.oh.gov/dogwarden
