Excerpt: Because of the sequester last month President Obama canceled all White House tours because, as the president stated, the Secret Service claimed it can’t continue the funding to do routine screening, surveillance and ID checks for White House visitors.
The lack of proper screening, surveillance and ID checks explains how that funny creature with the long white ears was at the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll last Monday.
Not the Easter Bunny, Vice President Joe Biden.
From hmmm … To mmmm …
Hmmm … Have you noticed that every Thanksgiving the turkey gets pardoned but every Easter the bunny doesn’t?
Mmmm … hasenpfeffer (rabbit stew).
Thanks to the sequester the U.S. Secret Service, according to the Office of Management and Budget, needs to cut $84 million from its $1.6 billion budget over the next six months until Congress and President Obama make the next Spending Bill coin flip.
With the White House tours canceled the Secret Service will save $74,000 per week or $2 million during the seven months of the scheduled forced budget cuts. That total covers the cost of paying 37 uniformed officers $50 an hour for 40 hours a week to secure the tour’s route through the East Wing, they will be reassigned to other duties at the White House.
How appropriate for this time of year. This Secret Service switcheroo can be referred to as an Easter egg shell game.
Perhaps the real reason President Obama canceled the White House tours is the fear someone could wander off the tour and discover that more than just President Obama, his wife and daughters live at the house bought and paid for with American taxpayer dollars.
Because of security the Secret Service does not disclose who resides at the White House. Secret Service aside, it’s no secret Mrs. Robinson, President Obama’s mother-in-law, has lived in the White House since the president was first elected, helping out with daily duties at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Not President Obama’s daily duties, the first lady’s daily duties. Although you have to wonder just who it was inside the White House that put into effect the “Not in my house” no tourist policy.
The mother-in-law? Or the son-in-law?
I’m pretty sure at no time during his mother-in-law’s stay at the White House did President Obama say the famous line Dustin Huffman said in the movie “The Graduate”:
“Mrs. Robinson, are you trying to seduce me?”
