One of the things that I found out a long time ago, is that people have a way of deciding that if they have gotten a job, then they must be an expert at it, and they do not need to learn anything new in order do their work well. I have often been intrigued by how new elected officials go to their first meeting and calmly vote on issues that they have no previous experience with. Not only do they not know the history of the issue, they don’t even know exactly what the decision is that they are being asked to vote on.

So let’s put my theory to a test. Here is a City of Sandusky Quiz. I invite all of the Sandusky City Commissioners to take it and see how they score. So they're not supposed to vote "calmly"? Maybe they should be freaking out, writhing on the floors, speaking in tongues?

BTW, I too am environmental scientist and business management "expert". Also, so are many of the people on Sandusky City Commission. We don't have websites proclaiming our affiliations with Fortune 500 companies, but still...

(Disclaimer: after Ruth's last post threatening to charge "bloggers" with defamation I must point out that I am being ironic and that my expertise in environmental science and business management should not be trusted)

Yeah I had noticed the Wikipedia entry earlier in the year when I was pursuing some leads for an email. I hadn't been going to commission meetings for too long by that point but even I raised a smirk and eyebrow. However it did validate a point I made earlier than that in a reply here that Wikipedia isn't a good source of fact, but it gives a good sense of direction.

The questions are good and certainly have me interested in researching the answers. Until last December I couldn't even tell you who was on the commission let alone the general policy of the city. I felt a bit embarrassed at myself for not even knowing who was guiding the city in which I live and work.

One would expect the general public to require some sort of research before answering. The City Commission, even the young guns, should know the answers blindfolded.

There seems to be a group of people who enjoy discrediting people for their views and calling them names instead of joining in with their views or comments or something constructive, they whether bully. Last time I checked this was still America instead of some communistic country,at least for a little while. People should be able to question their government without being ridiculed.
