It’s an exciting time at the Library! Not only are we celebrating National Library Card Sign Up Month and placing the final touches on our latest Cover-to-Cover newsletter (to be mailed soon, in case you were wondering) but we’re also working to update the Adult Computer Lab. This lab, housed in the Reference Area, will feature 18 new computers running Windows 7. Each machine will have Microsoft Office 2010 (including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and WinWay’s Resume Deluxe software installed, along with additional up-to-date software and browsing capabilities -- just like you asked.
We are also updating our printing system, which will allow you to print not only from the new computers; but also to print from the comfort of your home or from your laptop as you work in the Quiet Reading Room on that business proposal or homework assignment; or from your tablet or smartphone as you rush to your next appointment. Printing will finally be available from multiple platforms -- just like you asked.
We are also updating the printer itself. The new printer, a Xerox Multifunction Device, will actually print, copy, scan, and fax. I love that we now offer the ability for patrons and guests to print a document and scan it to a USB drive or send as a fax all from one machine. We’re working hard to make technology fun, exciting, and easy to use -- just like you asked.
But that’s not all. While the new Adult Computer Lab and printing system is being installed, we will also be updating our Self Check machines. The two Self Checks that have been seen in the Main Lobby will be updated to feature a 19 inch touch screen monitor and a third Self Check will be installed in the Children’s Services area. These updated Self Checks will be even easier to use - just like you asked.
With all this good does come a little bad. In order to ensure a successful update, we are closing the Adult Computer Lab starting today at 5 p.m. through Sunday, Sept. 22. The whole Library will be closed for the updates from Thursday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 22.
On Monday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. we invite you to come down to the Library to see all the changes we’ve made and to use the new equipment.
