Erie County Health Department officials say they are hopeful Erie County will land a grant soon that will allow the longawaited Bay View sewer project to move forward.

Last month, Erie County commissioners applied to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a grant, and the prospects for getting money seem very promising, said Bob England, director of environmental health for the health department.

The project would extend sewer lines to Bay View houses and businesses, replacing septic tank systems that have polluted nearby Lake Erie beaches. England said he hopes to announce a federal grant within a month or two.
