The business hasn’t closed a single weekday in its 40 1/2 years of operation, founder Doris McGookey said.
Even during bad weather, she said working parents needn’t worry, because their children will always be in good hands. Kiddie Korral is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the work week for children ages six weeks to 12 years old. It has two locations: one on East Follett Street and one on East Perkins Avenue.
After 35 years, Doris’ granddaughter Beth McGookey took over much of the business’ daily operations. But the pair agrees no one person is responsible for its success; it’s always a team effort.
“They depend on us, and we’ll always be here,” Doris said. “When you see how thankful they are, it makes everything worthwhile. We want the best for these children, as we would for our own children.”
As a side note, if anyone was wondering, the Register didn’t close this past week either. I hope you all enjoyed reading your newspaper from the warmth of your snowed-in homes.
