It seems there's very little doubt: Improving conditions define the economy in Erie County and the Northcoast region.
The unemployment rate dropped nearly 5 percentage points in the last five years.
The local job growth rate is 13 percent while the national average is 3.2 percent.
While tourism remained a foundation of the local economy, another of those foundations has made a comeback of sorts. More than 1,200 of the 4,600 new jobs are in manufacturing.
Sandusky International, a division of MetalTek International, led the sector. The factory on Market Street added 67 jobs to bring its workforce to 164.
The leisure and hospitality sector added 400 jobs.
The start of tourism season brings the usual buzz as businesses prep for an onslaught of visitors.
But that buzz seems like a revving engine with the good economic news and what appears to be a continuing and strengthening recovery. It does seem a better future is upon us and already begun.
