Excerpt: The Erie County Land Bank program has targeted 24 blighted properties to be demolished by Sept. 1, including 20 within the city of Sandusky. The first demolition was scheduled to happen this month.

The land bank is being funded with a $473,000 grant to Erie County awarded by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine to demolish vacant buildings, rehabilitate, transfer or sell them. The goal of the program is to make these properties tax generators while cleaning up neighborhoods one lot at time.

For that we say, it’s about time.

Considering how the Sandusky housing scandal was successfully swept under the rug, I sure hope there will be somebody around to oversee the $473,000.00 grant money for this project.
