The Erie County Master Gardeners are once again sponsoring the organization’s annual spring seminar on Saturday, April 5. Corso’s Flower and Garden Center, 3404 Milan Road in Perkins Township will open its doors to host the event.
Four different topics will be covered during the daylong event. Three programs will be offered during the morning. There will be an hour and a half break during which Cesare Avallone, one of Sandusky’s leading chefs and owner of Zinc Brasserie and Crush Wine Bar will serve lunch to participants. The day will close with a panel discussion.
The morning sessions include:
•Tools of the Trade which highlights the basics in garden tool selection, their care and maintenance, the pluses of ergonomic tools and how to use standard tools for the same effect.
•2013 Insect Invasion and the Outlook for 2014 reviews last year’s pest problems, indicators of what the 2014 season will bring and the best practices for insect control.
•Water Features Small and Large takes a look at the possibilities for adding water features to the landscape for both small areas and large expanses.
After a noon luncheon the seminar will resume with a panel discussion beginning with landscape maintenance, fruits and vegetables in the landscape, plant selection for flowerbeds, problems spots on the roof and around the house where unsightly moss tends to gather and alternatives for overgrown shrubs and trees.
The lineup of speakers includes experts from The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and representatives from the private sector including Willoway Nurseries, Vermilion, and Corso’s Flower and Garden Center.
