My headline refers not to our nation as a whole, but to The Nation magazine, a left wing magazine and Web site that has named U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, one of its "Most Valuable Progressives of 2008."
Kaptur gets the nod as the "Most Valuable House Member." The House has 435 members, so The Nation must like our Marcy a lot.
The magazine's article also bestows liberal love on Policy Matters Ohio, a Cleveland think tank whose studies on foreclosures in Ohio have been cited in this paper, and on University of Ohio professor Peter Linebaugh's book, "The Magna Carta Manifesto, Liberties and Commons for All." Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the magazine's favorite senator and they love Rachel Maddow, too, if that gives you an idea of where the Nation is coming from.
Congresswoman Kaptur, meanwhile, has marked the new session of Congress by issuing a press release noting that she is the "longest serving Democratic woman in House history."
Her press release notes, "The Ohio delegation now stands at ten Democrats to eight Republicans, the first time since 1934 the delegation has had a two seat Democratic margin."
