U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, and U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, don't agree on many issues, but they united Wednesday to block an effort to bring the war in Afghanistan to a quick end.

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Cleveland Democrat and a war critic, managed to force a vote Wednesday on a resolution directing President Obama to remove U.S. armed forces from Afghanistan. Kucinich got 65 "yes" votes (60 Democrats and 5 Republicans, including Ron Paul), but 356 House members voted against the resolution (189 Democrats and 169 Republicans.) Nine lawmakers didn't vote.
