BLOG: Bad news for Obama

Tom Jackson
Jun 8, 2011

Let's see. Judging from what's getting the most coverage, the most important news in the U.S. is that a you-know-what in Congress Tweeted a picture of his you-know-what, and Sarah Palin's account of Paul Revere's famous ride may not be strictly accurate. Oh, and there's big news in Ohio, too -- some guy left the football team at OSU.

Here a couple of apparently unimportant things you may have missed:

(1) The U.S. economy actually is getting worse, at least in terms of employment. The unemployment rate has gone up for two months in a row — from 8.8 percent in March, to 9.0 percent in April and then 9.1 percent in May. People who have given up looking for work aren't counted in these numbers, because they are considered no longer in the workforce. People who took a crummy, low-paying job because they can't find a good one also don't figure in the raw numbers.

(2) President Obama's war in Libya apparently is illegal. Or so says lawyer and author Glenn Greenwald.

The true national unemployment rate is 15.8%.

See the May 2011 U-6 number (last row):

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t15.htm

This U-6 number reflects the 9.1% unemployment number plus those people who are unemployed, no longer receiving unemployment benefits and have stopped looking for work as well as those who can only find part-time work but would accept full-time if available.

If the economy was in an actual recovery, this number would not be this high and the Federal Reserve would not be pumping money into the economy!

How many jobs bills have the Repub House put forth? Let me think ....... NONE! Can't blame Pelosi anymore right wingnuts.

man4451

I am VOTING 4 Oboma AGAIN. and a THIRD term if we could.

he is doing SOMETHING 4 the PEOPLE, not against the people.

themomx6
man4451...............

Just what has he done?

brutus smith

His stimulus bill created or saved 3.5 million jobs mom. What have the Repubs done? Not a G D thing.

MiddleRight

Brutus, you seem a little defensive.

I like how you say the Republicans can't blame Pelosi, who's only been out of control for about 6 months, yet Obie(or press secretary) continues to blame Bush.

Which way is it going to be?

Also, since you policial knowledge seems to be lacking, how can the republicans be at fault, when the Democrats control the Senate and White House?

brutus smith

Tell me m/r, what have the House Repubs done? You right wingnuts blame Obama for things that happened before he took office. How long do the Repubs get? They had 8 years to turn things around. Now these Repubs who ran on jobs, jobs, jobs have done nothing, nada zilch.

Gov does create jobs by creating a demand for things like military equipment. Duh! Get your head out of Fox news behind and discover some real history.

themomx6

3.5 million jobs? Really? Where are they? Seriously, where are they? The unemployment rate is growing. If there are 3.5 million created jobs, and the unemployment rate is growing, that can only mean more jobs were LOST than CREATED! BTW, government doesn't create jobs.

brutus smith

Hey mom, ask yourself some easy questions. Do more people join the work force than leave it each month? Are there more births than deaths?

MiddleRight

Here is that stimulus plan you referred to Brutus.  See, these are called facts, not biased ramblings.

If you look at page 4, enemployment is expected to top out around 8% in early '09, and should currently be somewhere in the 6.5% range.

I guess it's alot to ask of a community organizer who voted "present" a majority of the time to actually put out a meaniful document.

I wonder where he stands on this now????

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt
March 16, 2006

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

Over the past 5 years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is “trillion” with a “T.” That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers. And over the next 5 years, between now and 2011, the President’s budget will increase the debt by almost another $3.5 trillion.

Numbers that large are sometimes hard to understand. Some people may wonder why they matter. Here is why: This year, the Federal Government will spend $220 billion on interest. That is more money to pay interest on our national debt than we’ll spend on Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. That is more money to pay interest on our debt this year than we will spend on education, homeland security, transportation, and veterans benefits combined. It is more money in one year than we are likely to spend to rebuild the devastated gulf coast in a way that honors the best of America.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities.

The Republicans are calling it:  Strategic Employee Reduction !

Bust the unions, put the country on it's knees and win in 2012.

Re: BTW, government doesn't create jobs.

Huh?

Kasich created jobs for his buds, never mind he eliminated thousands.

“Gov does create jobs by creating a demand for things like military equipment” So that’s ok now? I thought the progressives hate the military-industrial complex, the ‘republican war machine’? I love how progressives rationalize.   “put the country on its knees” look around lately, where are we now, on the sub-cockles of utopia? Remind me again how many jobs Strickland lost, even politifact backs the number up. ‘Strategic Employee Reduction’ who told you that, Jimmy Hoffa’s ghost. Dems have all the answers, maybe we need the Cuban style one-party system?   All the progressives complain about corporate welfare, who is the king of government subsidies? Obama. He loves giving taxpayer money to insurance, businesses, and banks. I know its ok for him to do it. I hope those Toledo UAW members at Chrysler do not get caught in the parking lot drinking and smoking pot, you know like the ones in Michigan did after Obama visited the “Cherokee plant”. They were so happy to be bailed out about 15 of them were on tape drinking 40’s at break time; typical.   We know the stimulus saved or created some jobs, but even Obama said that the government cannot continue to create jobs directly. Am I better now than under Bush, no; did I like junior; no. When are you going to wake up, the president is nothing but an actor; be it  Bush or Obama, someone else is pulling the strings.

Obama's Own Words

I guess a Politician can say anything and sell it to the dumb masses.

OBAMA'S OWN WORDS; THEN AND NOW!!

2008: "Navy Seal Team 6 is Cheney's private assassination team." 2011: "I put together Seal Team 6 to take out Bin Laden."

2008: "Bin Laden is innocent until proven guilty, and must be captured alive and given a fair trial."           2011: "I authorized Seal Team 6 to kill Bin Laden."

2008: "Guantanamo is entirely unnecessary, and the detainees should not be interrogated."
2011: "Vital intelligence was obtained from Guantanamo detainees that led to our locating Bin Laden."

Chain emails are a hoax

just like the chain postings people are putting up on facebook about everyone with a job is required to take a drug test.

Sam

According to bfrutie Obama is not to blame for anything after 2 1/2 years including higher unemployment, higher gas prices and a federal debt that has risen by a third during his term.  Yet according to bfutie Gov. Kashich is to blame for all of Ohio problems after only 5 months and one term Teddy Strickland who saddled Ohio with a record debt of $8 billion dollars has no blame.   He blames the Republican House that has only held a majority for 5 months but says nothing about the Democrapers that controlled the congress for the previous 4 years.  Yet another example of the crazed left wing loon rants of bfruite...........................

That's a chain email that is making the rounds and is not a fact. It's another case of wingnuts make up propaganda, send it around the web, and wingnuts jump on the email as if it was a fact.

It doesn't take much effort to find the real facts about what he said and what the wingnuts would like us to believe.

I Judge you

And there's nothing you can do about it.

Obama Is the shepherd I did not want.
He leadeth me
Beside the still factories.

He restoreth my faith in the Republican party.
He guideth me in the path of unemployment
For his party's sake.

Yea, Though I walk through the valley of the bread line,
I shall fear no hunger, for his bailouts are with me.

He has Anointed my income with taxes,
My expenses runneth over.

Surely, poverty and hard living will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will live in a mortgaged home forever.

I'm glad … I am American,
I am glad … that I am free,

But I wish … I was a dog,
And Obama … was a tree.

@ Tom

Good post except the part about Palin.

EXPERTS have determined that Palin was CORRECT,

The liberal press and the Democratic party should ante up and APOLOGIZE for being so dumb to not know history! Of course, what can we expect from the party who thinks an ass is their best representative.

http://www.therightscoop.com/beck-you-betcha-sarah-palin-was-right-about-paul-revere/

Oh, and what about how the liberal press is now saying Obama distorted the fiquires with the Chrysler and GM paybacks. WOW, even the liberals know they have to tell the truth about their Prince about that one!

Keep living in a fair land world Brutus, your in the 26% minority of supporters. I guess the 74% of Americans are wrong and your right.

Darwin's choice

Care to refute these statements????Here's some quotes from Obuma's two books.

From Dreams From My Father:

“I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.”

From Dreams From My Father :
“I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”

From Dreams From My Father:

“There was something about her that made me wary, a little too sure of herself, maybe and white.”

From Dreams From My Father:

“It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.”

From Dreams From My Father:

“I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa , that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself:
the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.”

And FINALLY ……….. and most scary:

From Audacity of Hope:

“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in
an ugly direction.”

Re:Darwin's choice says Care to refute these statements????Here's some quotes from Obuma's two books

Your "quotes are from another (wingnut) email that was circulated b4 the election.

They are all either completely false or a spin on what he said.

Misleading e-mail: From Audacity of Hope: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Actual quote from "The Audacity of Hope" [pg. 261]: Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

@ Taxpayer:  We apparently live in alternate realities. I am a college-educated, well-informed individual, and have a completely different take on everything as you do. From where I'm sitting, Obama took the wheel of a country that was heading deeper in the ditch each day, and stopped the free fall.  You decry where the country is today with Obama at the helm, while I remain 100% assured that it's in a lot better shape thanks to Obama than it would've been if we had another 4 years of Bush/McCain policies.

We survived Bush. You will survive Obama. And by the way, can I assume that you will not accept any Social Security checks or Medicare help in your later years, since these were created by the liberals you decry?

I have a friend who wears 3 pins on his hat. Pin #1 says "I'm liberal, therefore I think".  #2 says: "If you're not part of the solution, you must be Republican".  My favorite applies specifically to you: "Don't you wish closed minds came with closed mouths?"  The guy has a 160 IQ, so it's a huge mistake for you to think that anyone who doesn't agree with you (Democrats, Liberals) is stupid.

anthras

Coastertan, Why would you assume that we should not accept any Social Security checks or Medicare help in our later years as the government has forced us to pay for the benefits. I might add that my 401K and other investments that I have saved on my own pays me more than my social security and when I pass away my family will receive what is left. I could pay into social security for 50 years and die after 3 months of receiving any payments and my family is left with nothing.

On the inside it's called: "Strategic Employee Reduction".

Ah yes the liberal intelligencia has spoken, the new castrati, part of the only 24% of citizens who agree with Obummers politics, have espoused how we should feel. We are alas too poorly informed on Obozo's brilliance and  nuances. A record deficit and the annointed one wants to bailout Greece. I guess you have to have a 160 IQ to figure the disastorous ramifications of bailing out a foreign country and how it is good for our country.
