So, what do you think of Palin?

Tom Jackson

Well, the pick of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate has given everyone something to talk about, hasn't it?

In my Aug. 13 blog posting, "A Woman for Vice President?" I explained why I thought it seemed quite possible that at least one of the candidates for vice president would turn out to be a woman, even though national pundits were mostly mentioning men.

I wrote, "If Obama picks a white male as his running mate, I would think pressure would build on McCain to pick a woman."

My blog also pointed to Sarah Palin, although that didn't come from me -- it came from a reader comment. On my August 4 blog posting, someone posting as "Sarah Palin" wrote, "Come on McCain, give Sarah Palin a look." My wife spotted the comment and asked if I'd noticed the governor of Alaska posted on my blog. Of course, you can use any name you like when you post a comment here.

It's too early to judge the wisdom of McCain's pick, but the early attack line by the Obama camp that Palin lacks experience rings false. After all, she's the governor of a state, and has more executive experience than Obama, Biden or McCain. My boss, a woman, wants me to point out she has more experience hunting moose than the other three.

The consensus so far seems to be that Palin was a risky pick. We'll see how she does when she speaks in prime time tonight.

Told the GOP repeatedly that there were no weapons of mass destruction. Bush jr. just wanted to get the guy that shot @ his Pa. Oh yeah - why under Bush Sr. didn't we finish the job the 1rst time in Iraq? $$$$$$$$$$$$???????????

Martin L. King was a great man. Obama is no Martin L. King. not even close.

For your information, I have done my research on the subject. I have gone to both candidate's websites and read each one's plan for our country. Yes, Obama wants to repeal the tax cuts that were given to the RICH to fund his healthcare program. I'm sorry if that's not a good enough reason to take back that money that the upper class so desperately needs. (sarcasm) McCain's big healthcare plan is to give a "tax credit" of $2,700 to families to help them pay for healthcare. I know people that have a deductible that high. That is not REAL change, which is what I asked you for. Obama will provide healthcare for all-not socialized medicine-just the opportunity to have affordable healthcare. Employers will be required to OFFER it to their employees. THAT is real change. I'm still waiting for a good answer to my question, by the way.

cm.sandusky

a universal healthcare system run by the goverment, is a socialized healthcare system. they have tried it in one state, it failed, it went broke.
i grew up with universal healthcare. it isn't any good. thousands if not more come to this country for our healthcare because of failures in their country.

again, the argument that only the rich will pay is just not true. the rich will pass the expense to the middle class working people.

Typical isn't it? They (GOP) slammed King over & over. Now they (GOP) do the same lies to Obama. Even McCain said what Rob Perry was to doing to Kerry's war record was wrong! How soon people froget. How quick they are to believe lies. CM you aren't with it.

Terrorist attack: a surprise attack involving the deliberate use of violence against civilians in the hope of attaining political or religious aims.

I do not see any qualifiers as to the mental state of the terrorist. As far as I know, the accused was never convicted so technically, he is still presumed innocent under that pesky Constitution that we have. If he was mentally disturbed, then why would he have a top clearance and access to anthrax?

Why not include Timothy McVeigh in the list. It happened under Clinton....but something tells me that in your mind only Muslims engage in terrorism and that Christians wouldn't do such a thing. Interesting list that only Muslim names. Ever here of the Irish? Oh nevermind.....it doesn't fit your talking points.

So you admit that voters were being denied to vote don't you? It took a good man (King) & a democrat (Johnson) to help make our constitution work. Republicans motto should be " If you aren't filthy rich F you."

cm.sandusky

@bursting with flavor.

what lies? no sarcasm!!

Anonymous

What state were "they" involved with universal health care?

cm.sandusky

of course there were voters that were denied to vote.. i'm glad that this time is over..
although it did take a republican to end slavery..remember..
and just why does everyone one think that all rebublican are filthy rich??

and i'm no rebuplican....

cm.sandusky

Massachusetts.....The subsidized insurance program at the heart of the state's healthcare initiative is expected to roughly double in size and expense over the next three years - an unexpected level of growth that could cost state taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars or force the state to scale back its ambitions.

During the time Bush jr. was running against Kerry he repeatedly hammered Kerry's war record. It is illegal to proclaim under federal law awards for valor, etc. Kerry has a purple heart among other war awards. Sen McCain at the time of all this called Bush's attacks "disingenuos." (Meaning many things - may take "lack of candor.") Bush was AWOL , that to is a fact. Rob Perry did this. He was Bush's biggest single $$ supporter from Texas. Now Rob Perry is @ his same old dog & pony show with Obama. The flag, religion, etc. Check it out I don't like to lie.

Our income tax came about from President Lincoln to pay for the war. Who will pay for this war? Our children, our grandchildren...........

cm.sandusky

thanks for the info..i'll check it out. as for religion, flag pin etc...i could care less...
i try to stick with the issues, which is almost immposible with today's media.
i don't care what church they belong to, what they smoked or drank 20 some years ago..
i do have to appologize for loosing my cool earlier.
and i'm no democrat either...

Contango

He was Governor of Massachussetts and early favorite in the Republican Primaries. He is now toted as being strong on the economy.......

Who is Mitt Romney

CORRECT

cm.sandusky

you are correct..

The point is or was that these "attacks" were not a result of Bush's foreign policy.

Typical democrat thinking on your part however, convolute and defect the issue to some minor tangential side point until the real point is lost.

Point is less terrorist attacks under Bush, winning the war on terrorist and a safer USA because of his policy.

Socialized medicine? What are you crazy? I lived in the UK, it was terrible. I ended up paying nearly $1200 a month to have private insurance to use private hospitals, doctors and clinics. If it is so good in the UK, why do they have so many private services and insurance? Socialized medicine does not work. Period, ask anyone from the states that has lived where they have it. Over a certain age, sorry no more dialysis for you… no thank you!

Buy your own health insurance; I don’t want to pay for yours too! Most of these people complaining about heath insurance, how many of them have car insurance? Most of them.

Read the story about the Invention Restaurant? Owners are getting flack for displaying OBAMA sign. Today's Norwalk Reflector.

It is us against them.

Wow the nonsense I missed by working for a living.80 posts. Unfortunatly us Obama supporters have to go out and work for a living to keep America strong.

Flashback to last evening when I stated Republicans lie , lie loud ,lie often ,until the simple minded sheep flock to their system.

CM is the perfect example!!!

The right wing media strikes again.

"Right Wing Media?" Tell me, does such a place truly exist? Where is this place so that I may go and 'bask' in its unbridled truth oh great swami!

Kind of a misnomer. There is an old adage in democratic societies, and it goes something like this.

"Spend, Spend, Spend. Tax, Tax, Tax. And elect, elect, and elect."

It all goes back to the fact that you don't get something, worth anything, for nothing. Cause if you believe otherwise there is an adage for that also, "There's a sucker born every minute."
Doesn't matter what party or what election, who the president is, or who's in control of congress-GET OUT YOUR WALLET. -G E T U S E T O I T !!!!!

MHL

Well Let me give you a start. Turn on your Tv.
FOx news ,Fair and balanced my azz, any station that employs William Kristol,Bill Oreilly,Sean Hannity. Britt Hume, must I continue.

CNN . They are slightly more balanced than fox,yet stood in lockstep to sell the war in Iraq.

ABC CBS NBC, Same as above actually Phil Donahue stood up against the war and was promptly fired by NBC. Also take nore that they took Chris Matthews and Keith Obermann off their election coverage because they spoke the truth.

Turn on the radio.Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity,Andrew Wilcow.Mike Church,Michael Savage, they`re every wear.

Bottom line is Obama has been under attack for 20 months now and has had to answer every lie ,every conspiracy theory, every piece of BS out there.

John Mccain needs Joe Lieberman behind him to tell him who we are at war against. John McCain talks about the dangers of the Iraq pakistan border(which does not exsist.Yet the media backs off. (He`s a war vet, he`s old .

Now here comes Sarah Palin. Inexperience. Scandal. Crook. Poison. The media has yet to attack her because she`s a woman.

Let`s ask her the same questions about her voting record like we have Obama. Let`s ask her about her venomous hateful church, and does she denounce it .Let`s ask her about the amount of earmarks she asks for yet opposes.

Let`s talk about the campaign for change, and how McCain`s campaign is run by LOBBYISTS. That`s right LOBBYISTs. The same people mcCain _pit Bull are against. WAKE UP AMERICA.

Obama in a stump speech yesterday, stated the first thing I disagree with him. " He said they can`t keep making stuff up,America isn`t that stupid."

Sorry Obama they have been doing it for 40 years. and yes America keeps buying it.

I think I am tired of hearing the exact SAME sound bytes every day from the exact SAME speech she gave at the RNC. Palin is being made to stick to the script and stick to the script and stick to the script. Furthermore, it has now been proven that she is NOT being truthful about several things that she keeps repeating in that sarcastic, self-serving speech of hers, such as she "did not support" the pork-barrel "Bridge to Nowhere" in Alaska (she DID support it originally) and she's lying about selling that private jet on eBay for a profit (she was never able to sell it and the State of Alaska ended up selling it through an aviation brokerage) and she's lying about firing her chef, which she says disappointed her kids (she re-hired the chef as a nanny and now the chef works for the state). She just keeps repeating that speech and those lies, even though her statements have been shown to be lies. The McCain campaign has gone so far as to say that they will not allow Palin to be interviewed until she is shown "respect and deference" by the media. I say if she took on the running mate position, she should be prepared to be treated like one of the boys, and she deserves no "deference" just because she thinks she was unfairly picked on or because she is a woman. It is obvious that the Republicans are holding off the media as long as they possibly can before we all get to see how Sarah Palin does without their scripting of all her remarks.I hope when Charles Gibson interviews her this week he asks some hard questions...and NOT just stuff about her family or hockey moms or the alleged sexist treatment she and the McCain camp say she has been subjected to since she was chosen as his running mate. That has been hashed and re-hashed for almost 2 weeks now. I want to see if Palin is indeed able to handle herself when she must leave the comfort of that scripted speech behind and is asked more pressing, pertinent questions regarding the economy, foreign policy, etc. I want to see her explain herself when asked about the lies she keeps repeating. I also want to know how her extreme Pentecostal upbringing has affected the way she has governed in Alaska and if and how she could possibly uphold the separation of church and state should she become the vice president or possibly the president. The Republicans don't want us to see the real Palin because then all the excitement surrounding her will fade. More questions arise each day about who exactly Sarah Palin is, and it is slowly but surely becoming apparent that PALIN is actually more like George W. Bush than McCAIN is...and McCain is awful darn close. McCain's campaign manager says this election is "not about issues but personalities". I think not. As a woman, I am not taken in by McCain's choice of Palin, which is a blatant attempt to deflect the attention from the real issue that he does not want to address...which is that he and Palin are NOT change but more of the same.

Anonymous

we are sick of your stupid comments.

Got Cancer?

MHL

I will give Republicans credit for one thing. They do stick to their simple talking points in lockstep. Liberals problem is we are free to think and don`t flock to 1 sheeephearder. That is why our primary lasted longer. But this is too important an election to let them lie their way to victory.

MHL

To Here`s what I think about Palin: Great post, keep speaking the truth. Don`t hold your breath on lightweight Charles Gibson giving you a tough interview though. I`m sure McSame`s camp has already rehearsed it.

Re CM move on: Let her go we don`t need her ignorance. She`s too far gone.

Anonymous

Yep, you're probably right about Gibson. The Republicans chose him for a reason, I'm sure. I bet neither McCain nor Palin would have the guts to be interviewed by Keith Olbermann the way Barack Obama agreed to subject himself to conservative old Bill O'Reilly!

CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)

DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN
15% (no change)
OBAMA
39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.')
