So, what do you think of Palin?

Well, the pick of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate has given everyone something to talk about, hasn't it?

In my Aug. 13 blog posting, "A Woman for Vice President?" I explained why I thought it seemed quite possible that at least one of the candidates for vice president would turn out to be a woman, even though national pundits were mostly mentioning men.

I wrote, "If Obama picks a white male as his running mate, I would think pressure would build on McCain to pick a woman."

My blog also pointed to Sarah Palin, although that didn't come from me -- it came from a reader comment. On my August 4 blog posting, someone posting as "Sarah Palin" wrote, "Come on McCain, give Sarah Palin a look." My wife spotted the comment and asked if I'd noticed the governor of Alaska posted on my blog. Of course, you can use any name you like when you post a comment here.

It's too early to judge the wisdom of McCain's pick, but the early attack line by the Obama camp that Palin lacks experience rings false. After all, she's the governor of a state, and has more executive experience than Obama, Biden or McCain. My boss, a woman, wants me to point out she has more experience hunting moose than the other three.

The consensus so far seems to be that Palin was a risky pick. We'll see how she does when she speaks in prime time tonight.

RE:CM...................But it was Bush Sr. that authored NAFTA and Slick Willie signed it because he was done in by a republican house and congress.

hey, nineMM..i have come to the conclusion that we have a bunch of morans running our country. dems, repub., it doesnt matter...it seems like they are looking out for each other, and forgot the rest of us.

For all you idiots that said this choice would not make a difference, check out the national polls. McCain has taken the lead and seen a 20-point shift among women voters. Largest swing of any single voting block in US history...

RE: CM...............You are correct............But what's next? Revolution? People are gonna be hungry come November. Hungry and pi$$ed and homeless.

Sarah Palin has the HIGHEST APPROVAL RATING OF ANY GOVERNOR IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I think that says more about her than any TV talking head or anonymous SR blogger! Awesome choice!

McCain picking Palin, best thing he coud have done.
Obama NOT picking Hillary, the most stupid, selfish thing he could have done.

CM:

Regarding the Robin Hood legend:

He stole from the rich Sheriff and King (govt.) and gave to the poor (the taxpayers).

The mythical guy was a libertarian.

Obama ain’t no RH.

cm.sandusky

AAHHH, it's all in the the eye of the beholder.
he will steal from the rich ( the hard working people, that build their business) and give it to the poor ( the ones living of the system,)

the ones left having to pay the rest, is the average working person.

Long past time to tax all the hypocritical churches and make them pay their fair share.

Too many rich pastors with beautiful expensive buildings preaching love and making money hand over fist.

Since they’re not-for-profit, all the other taxpayers have to pay for their extravagance.

RE: Proof.................It only shows that Palin is more popular than McCain and women are pi$$ed that Hillary didn't get the democratic nod. Popular vote won't win an election.......Look at the 2000 election when GW's brother gave him Fla. Gore would have won if the popular vote meant anything.

CM:

I know. The dude can shuck and jive.

We're pretty much on the same page.

Keep it up!

Gotta get goin' See ya around.

cm.sandusky

the whole system is messed up. it's not us electing the president. it's all a big game on both sides.

Every creditable analysis since 2000 proves that Bush legitimately won Florida. If they had an election system more like Ohio's, with County BOE's set up the same as ours, the issues down there would have never would escalated to the level that it reached. Regardless, in the end, the outcome was right. People that claim otherwise are fooling themselves...and are still very bitter about losing. It's been 8 years, give it up. The fact that Dems have tried to fabricate issues in the 2004 elections in Ohio is even more laughable. The D's claim a better ground game every year and then look for excuses when they get out worked in the end. The difference is simple, their (usually out-of-stste)paid volunteers (ACORN, ACT, Unions, etc.), just can't compete with our local grassroots volunteer organization.

those who are losing their omes are really happy that you are telling them how great everything is.
Wanna know who is a loser?

You also probably syupport Palin and her Nazi book-burning, fire those I don't like, pray away the gay psycho-christian crap.

I'm worse off than 4 years ago, but still better off than 8 years ago...so did I win or lose under Bush?

Do the Anthrax Letters count as a terrorist attack or don't those count? Danish tourist killed is a terrorist attack? How about the father son shooting team that killed 6 people? Pretty sure that one happened after 911. The air Egypt Flight was inbound and never in American air space. Are there any terrorist attacks on our troops and facilities in Iraq? You seem to know everything so I am really looking forward to your EDUCATED response.

The truth about Palin is starting to come out all of the lies she and McSame have uttered will be revealed for what they are.McSame & Palin remind me of a couple of clowns in a circus. All McSame does is point and give a thumbs up & Palin attempts to get by on her one line zingers that will not hold up for long.I say ship McSame back to one of his seven houses & sednd Sarah back to the land of salmon & moose. And you know what if you really look at Palin she does look like a pit bull with lipstick.(she said it first not me)GO OBAMA BIDEN 2008

cm.sandusky

the way i see it, McCain has no problem walzing in the white house with Palin, she is taking him by the hand and he has no problem with her.
on the other hand, obama should have picked Hillary, it seems to me he is not strong enough to have a strong woman by his side. he wants the glory to himself..now who's looking out for whom?

I learned a lot about Sarah Palin this week. I learned about all of her experiences as an executive, from running a small business (commercial fishing), being Mayor of her City and becoming Governor. Obviously, I believe it is her experiences as Governor that qualifies her for this position over Obama or Biden. As Governor she manages over 17,000 employees and a $9 billion budget. She has taken on big oil and their lobbyists while fighting for the development of new energy sources, including devising and overseeing the installation of largest natural gas line in US history. During this project, she ran up against tough opposition from entrenched politicians on both sides of the aisle, lobby groups, and large corporations; but, she saw it through.

She is uniquely qualified to address top national security interest. First and foremost, as the mother of a soldier herself, she has taken a personal interest in the US’s war on terrorism. She has taken the time to visit the troops overseas, even before she had any link to national politics. As the Governor of Alaska, she is Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard and the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans. These are important positions given Alaska’s proximity to Russia. Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material is comparable to Biden's and certainly by far exceeds Obama's.

Sarah Palin has actually used her veto power to cut budgetary spending. She took a corrupt system head-on in Alaska and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has a record of accomplishment that neither Barrack Obama nor Joe Biden have. While Sarah Palin was spending her time doing the people’s work in Alaska, Obama has spent his time running for President.

It is for these reasons that she has the highest approval rating of any sitting governor in the US. Not my oppinion, just simple fact.

But right here and now, I can tell you who is guaranteed to lose ...

You!
And I can tell you with total certainty who will be stuck with ...

Soaring interest rates ...

A bankrupt Social Security system ...

A bankrupt Medicare system ...

Surging taxes ...

Trillions of dollars more in Federal debt ...

Rip-roaring gas prices, and ...

An impoverished retirement!

You!

I challenge any of you to tell me JUST ONE THING that the Republican candidates seek to create real change in. Just one issue. And I mean REAL change. What is going to be so fresh and different that what we've had for the last 8 years. I'm waiting.

Here is your educated answer…

The terrorist attacks I listed come straight from the US State Department's website. Check it out.

Terrorist attack - a surprise attack involving the deliberate use of violence against civilians in the hope of attaining political or religious aims

Empire State Building Sniper Attack, February 23, 1997: A Palestinian gunman opened fire on tourists at an observation deck atop the Empire State Building in New York City, killing a Danish national and wounding visitors from the United States, Argentina, Switzerland, and France before turning the gun on himself. A handwritten note carried by the gunman claimed this was a punishment attack against the "enemies of Palestine!”

Sounds like a terrorist attack to me! See definition above.

I don't know anything about a "father son shooting team that killed 6 people." The State department has nothing listed and I cannot find any information about it online, so I am unable to comment on that issue.

Granted, Flight 990 crashed 60 miles south of Nantucket, technically international waters. But, to say it wasn't a terrorist attack against the US, as you suggest, is naive to say the least.

The Anthrax attacks were committed by a US citizen, Bruce Edwards Ivins no political agenda as far as anyone can tell. Since there was no political or religious agenda, although some of his delusional ramblings were religious in nature, I don't think it accurate to classify the Anthrax attacks as a terrorist act committed in response to Bush's foreign policy. (see for it to be a terrorist attack, there most be a political agenda) I don't think this nut job's actions are a result of " W. has made the world a more dangerous place by alienating our alliances."

As for the attacks in Irag, I would rather we take the fight to the terrorist then let them bring it here. Most of these attacks are against our troops, so these are not terrorist attacks, see above definition.

Not to mention that since 9-11 there have been 19 terrorist attacks prevented.

http://www.heritage.org/research...

So, I do feel safer. The Bush administration must be doing something right. 19 attacks prevented, we are all safer. I am better off than I was 8 years ago. We know our enemy and we are taking the fight to them. Granted the economy is not as strong was it was, but it is still not bad. I remember the results of the Carter admin. That was bad. As for the recent down turn, what goes up must come down and you have to remember, over the past for years we have had democratically controlled House and Senate.
