The air likely will be better, but Saturday's meeting of the Erie County Democratic Party otherwise will resemble the smoke-filled rooms of yore.
The party's central committee is supposed to pick a new clerk of courts for the county when it meets Saturday, but no one knows who the candidates are. That's because the party won't release its secret list of candidates.
The court clerk's office is an important office that touches nearly everyone's life at one time or another. It's a public office, supported by tax dollars. Why not release the names of the candidates so that the public will know that the best-qualified candidate was chosen?

I'm sure SR will provide full and in-depth coverage of this extraordinary event.
Thems da Dems, whatcha want? The committee persons are supposed to canvas their districts to find out what their constituents want---but no------they can't do it that way cause the list is secret. Oh well.
You gotta vote on the bill to see what's in it.
