Next time you go fishing in Sandusky, look for two very tall fishermen with foreign accents. They may be NBA basketball stars.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer published an interview Sunday with Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the popular native of Lithuania who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
When asked, “Where’s your favorite local fishing spot?” Ilgauskas replied, “I go fishing in Sandusky with Andy.” (Andy would be Anderson Varejao, a native of Brazil who also is an important member of the Cavaliers. And like Ilgauskas, he’s very big. Ilgauskas is 7’3”. Varejao, a comparative shrimp, is a mere 6’11”.)
A couple of other articles that might be of local interest: The PD has run a farewell column from longtime columnist Dick Feagler. According to this biography, Feagler began his newspaper career at the Sandusky Register.
The PD also had an article Sunday on the Cuyahoga River, and the progress that’s been made in cleaning the river up since the infamous summer of 1969 incident when the river caught fire. I wanted to point to it because cleaning up the rivers that flow into Lake Erie means a lot to the health of the lake.
