Jail was home to 4-term sheriff's family

This week on the Sandusky History blog, a review of former Erie County Sheriff Alton Young's years of service from 1948 to 1964.

While in office, he formed a "posse" of volunteers who helped with searches for suspects and missing persons.

His family also lived at the jail.

"When the stairs of the Sandusky Library were iced over, the Sheriff’s children would slide down the stairs on a sled."
