It was just family getting together : )

IT'S ME

I'm guessing, but I'm pretty sure that 90% of the customers at the fireworks store are on welfare. It's the people who don't have jobs and sit on their porches all day that seem to have the money for carloads of fireworks??

ladydye_5

Its because they have no jobs, they do no PAY For anything else, so they spend the money they do have on fireworks!

The Big Dog's back

And your proof of this is?

deertracker

Try decaf lady!

princedenny

So, a group of nearly 300 people aren't smart enough to realize that police officers are going to patrol the area. Then they show their true ignorance by firing bottle rockets at the cruisers. SHOCKED this happened on Hancrack Street.

IMO, every single one of them should have received a citation for illegal firearms, inducing panic, assault on a police officer, (attempted) destruction of public property, disturbing the peace, and anything else the SPD could have added.

deertracker

Get real! Why is it legal to purchase them but illegal to shoot them off? Dumb law and totally unenforceable.

Blues

Whether they are legal or not, one does not shoot them at LE. That was was STUPID.

deertracker

Agreed! It is a complete waste of law enforcement's time to even bother with it on the 4th.

ladydye_5

Yeah why enforce any law? It is ridiculous. Kinda like weed. It is illegal, but why enforce it. It doesn't hurt anyone. Its just weed. Why enforce a rolling stop sign. Why enforce unpaid child support they can just get welfare. Why enforce anything. Maybe YOU need some caffeine!

deertracker

You forgot pre marital sex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amerian Dad

Yeah a waste of time....but about the time they don't respond then they'll get ripped on for not doing their job.

Have to concur with ladydye_5. Low income housing, assisted financial help, yet they have money to buy fireworks and defy the rules.....typical

deertracker

Not to worry, they 'll come running when the firecracker goes off in little Becky's hand!

deertracker

Do you really think only people on Hancock St. shot off fireworks? Even poor people should get to celebrate this country's independence. Afterall, they finally are free!

JudgeMeNot

Free from what?

samiam

free from paying taxes and their own way in life.

deertracker

FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SanduskyMomOf3

So, the only way that poor people can celebrate this country's independence is to illegally shoot off fireworks? If only there were other ways that this country's independence could be celebrated on the 4th of July...

Blues

A gathering of 300 people, in a vacant lot, with a bunch of illegal to "fire off" fireworks, just a few blocks away from the cop shop and one expects the LE not to show up?

And then get fired upon with said fireworks? WTF?

I've had the cops come to my house for shooting fireworks off on the 4th too. When they did show up and asked us to stop, we did. It's been quite a few years back and we had maybe 7-12 people tops. We certainly didn't aim what we had left at them.

What kind of mentality does crap like that?

Blues

Are people in this comment section supposed to not think that you were a partaker in this "fun", deertracker? It certainly seems you were, with the comments you've made.

deertracker

I have no control over what people think!

Blues

Again, "What kind of mentality does crap like that?"

The Big Dog's back

It's a Constitutional right to shoot fireworks off on the 4th of July.

2cents

Yes, while buying fireworks to shoot of out of state : ) the other day I had a conversation with the Fireworks store manager. He said that the state of Ohio is seriously making the discharge of fireworks for a three day period around the fourth legal. Of course mine were immediately transported out of state!

SanduskyMomOf3

Umm, no, no it's not. Please show me in the Constitution where it says that people may shoot off fireworks in violation of the law. Does it extend to shooting them off at law enforcement?

While we're at it, is it also in the Constitution that fireworks can continue to be set off at 3:00 in the morning like someone in my neighborhood did? I thought there was that whole "disturbing the peace" thing. Kids were all in bed, people actually had to go to work the next day, and some idiot was still setting off fireworks.

The Big Dog's back

easy, easy. It was sarcasm.
