oh don't worry they're not really going to kill you. they just want money. really means: there's nothing we can do until they actually break the law or a body turns up.

Nemesis

They can charge the sender with extortion.

She should of said..."I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you hang up now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

There are a lot of things going on and people need to keep reporting them so others can know about them as well. You never know what kooks are out there. There is another scam going on, seems brand new, where they tell you an American Airlines ticket is waiting for you that you booked a flight. Do not click on this. It is a scam for any passwords. It can give you the impression that someone stole your credit card and booked a flight. American Airlines knows about this scam if you go on their site, it will explain the scam.

She needs to go to the FBI page and file a report under their internet crimes complaint(IC3). Local police are really pretty helpless with internet crime.
