We're driving around the lake, and you can join us...

The third installment of the Werling boys road trip series is set and this year we are calling it a "Round Trip" as we are driving around Lake Erie.

Two years ago my sons Will, Payton and I started the series with a drive down U.S. 250 from where it starts in Sandusky to where it ends in Richmond, VA. We finished that trip with a stop at Cedar Fair's Kings Dominion amusement park.

Last year we drove from Ohio 4 where it starts in Sandusky and drove to Cincinnati. We finished that trip with a stop at Kings Island.

This year, starting Thursday, June 27, we are driving clockwise along the lake and starting and stopping in Sandusky. Our final destinations will be the Stars & Stripes festival in downtown and a trip to Cedar Point. You can join us each day at sanduskyregister.com/roundtrip where we will have a live blog and also the pages of the Sandusky Register that week.

Here's a rundown from day-to-day of the trip...

Day 1: Thursday, June 27
Sandusky to Toledo

Day 2: Friday, June 28
Toledo to Leamington (Stay at Pelee Getaway)

Day 3: Saturday, June 29

Day 4: Sunday, June 30

Day 5: Monday, July 1

Day 6 Tuesday, July 2

Victory Honda is providing a vehicle for this year's trip (as they did last year) and the New Sandusky Fish Company will be sponsoring a photo of the day called Payton's Pix. Other sponsors so far for this year's trip are Cedar Point, Dockside Accommodations, Lake Erie Shores & Islands, Windjammer Inn (Port Stanley), Ability Works, Inc., the Maples Motel, the Old Dutch Tavern, Weazy's Italian Eatery, Cameo Pizza, the Gilchrist House, Port Sandusky Restaurant and ReMax Quality Realty.

If you are interested in attaching the name of your business to this year's trip, contact your advertising representative or me directly.
I've received numerous tips on where to go and what to do along the way. Keep those coming as well in the comments below or to werling@sanduskyregister.com.

Last week the boys and I were on Matt Westerhold's Between the Lines, Will and Payton were not shy.

Got your passports?

Jason Werling

Eph- sure do. We went with the passport cards instead of the full passports. If you're not flying the cards are all you need.

Take plenty of pics, especially Amherstburg and Windsor's free-roaming miles of shoreline public access.

Also, Leamington knows how to run a municipal marina.
