Boehner keeps exclusive gym open for lawmakers

Don't you love priorities? The Washington Post reports that cancer treatment has been  halted for many people because of the federal shutdown. The cancer patient interviewed for the article says, "I want to tell them that lives are at stake. This isn't just a matter of inconvenience. This is a matter of life or death. I’m not just doing this for myself. There are 200 people that are trying to get into clinical trials each week. I want to speak for all of us."

Thankfully, at least some important wellness needs aren't being neglected. ThinkProgress is now reporting that even as many functions of government have been shut down, the exclusive gyms used by members of Congress have remained open:

"According to the aide, the decision to keep the gym open — even while other critical government services were shelved — came directly from Speaker Boehner’s office. Meanwhile, the staff gym available to Congressional staff has been closed."

You are correct to a point. Reagan and Obama both inherited poor economies, and then took drasticlly different ways to solve it. Reagan cut taxes and encouraged business. We came roaring back in a year. Obama spent on so-called stimulus and cracked down on business and we have crawled out with a jobless recovery. Carter's recession was worse at its worst than Obama's, but Obama's has certainly lasted much longer and has not had a jobs recovery.

During Carter loan interest rates, mortgage rates, soared along with unemployment and inflation. look up "the pain index". But Reagan's policies corrected that, while Obama only had unemployment to deal with, and we have had an increase in part time employment, SSI disability claims, and people falling out of the work force along with the highest rates of both Welfare and food stamps ever. Both of the last two examples are at all time highs both by total number and by percentage of population.

Was it worse then more than now, maybe not since it was short term, thanks to the policies of Reagan, but the bottom was lower and the effects broader, albeit for a shorter time due to the policies of Obama in comparison to those of Reagan.

So you win... the gov't reacted faster and better under Reagan as history has shown than what Obama has done. Good points.

Never mind the fact that Harry Reid has denied clinical trials at the NIH, for cancer pts, never mind that illegals are allowed to use the National Mall for a rally while veterans and American citizens are shut out, never mind that families of our fallen have not been able to be transported to Dover to see their loved ones arrival in flag draped caskets, and the West Wing knew this days ago. You, who voted this creep into office not once but twice should hang your heads in shame. He is a dishonorable, disrespectful, arrogant, narcissistic, despot. He has NO leadership skills, he would punish the American people for his will of power and contempt.
