A difficult time for Barack Obama's fans

Tom Jackson

It's becoming harder and harder for members of Barack Obama's fan club to defend their hero — as least when it comes to his defense for NSA spying.

As I documented in a previous blog posting, the president's director of national intelligence, James Clapper, apparently lied to Congress when he was asked if the NSA is gathering data on millions of Americans.

The president now owns that falsehood. He didn't fire Clapper or publicly repudiate him. Instead, Obama's press secretary, Jay Carney, went out of his way to praise Clapper's supposed candor during a June 11 press briefing:

Q. Is the President satisfied that the American people are getting straight answers from their leadership when it comes to American intelligence?

A. MR. CARNEY:  Well, he certainly believes that Director Clapper has been straight and direct in the answers that he's given, and has actively engaged in an effort to provide more information about the programs that have been revealed through the leak of classified information.

(The transcript is here.)

So, what's James Clapper up to now? Excerpt from a CNN report: "An administration official said Monday that Obama had asked his intelligence chief James Clapper to determine whether additional information about the data collection programs can be made public, part of what the official described as a 'broader effort the president is undertaking to have a dialogue on protecting privacy in the digital age'."

So the guy who gave a false statement to Congress, under oath, gets to decide the contents of the next White House press release on domestic surveillance?

@ Mr. Jackson:

IMO, you underestimate the mindset of a true believer.

Every May Day across Russia, hundreds of supporters of Comrade Stalin protest for a return of the "good old days."

And, if legal, I can imagine that there would be similar rallies in Germany for Der Führer every yr. on April 20th.

Enjoyed reading Eric Hoffer's classic in high school yrs. ago.

Obama fans are only getting what they voted for, they just didn't recognize it at the time. It's hard to admit you were wrong, so it'll take a lot more than these recent events to wake up a lot of his followers

The Big Dog's back

Wrong how? Unemployment down, better healthcare, an economy that is taking off. Sounds like what I voted for.

SamAdams

Better healthcare? Really? You and I have discussed this before, and you've yet to answer the single question I had for you: How, pray tell, under the "Affordable" Care Act, am I going to be able to afford the increased insurance premiums when I can't afford the premiums as they are NOW? And with premiums set to rise an average of 88% in Ohio shortly, I could really use your helpful answer sooner rather than later.

The Big Dog's back

sam, where did that bullspit come from? Oh wait, the Fox news owning, WSJ owning Rupert Murdock. And in Ohio it comes from Mary Taylor, a Repub. Tell me the name of one Repub politician who has ever had a good word to say about the ACC. It's really getting a little old sam.

KnuckleDragger

So if it came from Democrapper you would then believe it?

SamAdams

Still not answering the question, are you? Could it be because you HAVE no answer? Hmmm...

And as far as the premium costs go, well, I have no idea which insurance agents/agencies/companies are conservative or liberal. I didn't think to ask when I requested quotes.

This bullspit came from forbes......and right from the mouth of Ohio's Lt. Governor. "Democrats continue to try to dismiss the evidence that Obamacare will dramatically increase the cost of insurance for people who buy it on their own. But on Thursday, the Ohio Department of Insurance announced that, based on the rates submitted by insurers to date, the average individual-market health insurance premium in 2014 will come in around $420, “representing an increase of 88 percent” relative to 2013. “We have warned of these increases,” said Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor in a statement. “Consumers will have fewer choices and pay much higher premiums for their health insurance starting in 2014.”

BDB, you're response makes my point.... keep on dreaming. By the time you wake up it will be too late.

The liberal machine has been gaining momentum for the last 2 decades and has you and so many other Americans fooled. You guys can banter and play tit-for-tat with morsels of information all you want. It's the bigger picture that will direct what road our country travels

The Big Dog's back

So unemployment isn't down? The economy isn't moving forward? Healthcare insurance isn't better?

Huron_1969

No, no and no
Unemployment numbers are misleading due to the influence of seasonal and part time minimum wage jobs and an ever growing federal government
Economy is proped up by over printing currency and is unsubstanable
The healthcare reform, while needed, missed the mark. It's gonna cost a fortune to make it operational and the outcome is uncertain.

KnuckleDragger

Don't try to explain economics to the mutt. He only knows what his union spoon feeds him.

@ Huron_1969 You are lieing --- it will cost a fortune because this country has been too worried about building a multi-million dollar weaponry, and helping out other countries-- Which is what the president Pre-Obama era did! Obama is trying to pull us out of that RUT!!! Hail Glory Praise and Honor to our wonderful POTUS!!!

Huron_1969

I think you've been drinking too much Grey Goose granny

Bherrle

Ahhhh, I forgot. It's still George Bush's fault.

re: GooseyGrandma

On the contrary, Obama is set to double foreign aid by 2015 and, as history keeps showing, it always hurts more than it helps. As Senator Rand Paul has noted, many of the people who hate us do so because, among other things, they hear us claiming to be so generous to them by sending billions of dollars in foreign aid but, instead, it ends up in the hands of the very leaders who are committing injustice against them.

A perfect example is that President Obama is about to send aid which will arm Syrian rebels (Al-Qaeda among them) so that they can fight Assad (in Syria) for us. And what do you think is going to happen, once Al-Qaeda gets that money, to the approx. 2 million Christians who sought refuge there?

You seriously want to "hail" and give "glory," "praise," and "honor" to those who would continue these practices?

EDIT: I agree that Assad needs to be toppled. My point is that there just has to be a better way.

S w Rand 2016

@Big Dog I see what you did there. You replaced "better healthcare" (in your earlier comment) with "better healthcare insurance" (in a more recent comment).
That is not to say that either is true by any stretch of the imagination.

The issue I take is that you seem to want "free healthcare" and "green energy." I would say that you should, instead, try "green healthcare" and "free energy." This way, the healthcare could truly become free shortly thereafter. But that is a somewhat long story and I will wait for an article that addresses those topics more directly.

vcreed123

Better health care? Better health care? I'm just making this post because that comment makes it obvious you don't have any first hand knowledge of this situation. I purchase my own insurance, I have for years, we received notice that starting in Jan when the great one's Obama care goes into affect my insurance costs will go up 56% for the same coverage. Prior to Obama Care the highest jump I ever saw was 8%, Thank you president Obama!!!

Darkhorse

That's funny Big Dog, as of Thursday the Unemployment ticked up to 7.6% and 354,000 more workers filed for unemployment and by the account of the GAO the economy is stagnant. But go ahead and enjoy the kool aid you are drinking and you will find in 2014 the Damocrats are going to lose the Senate and more seats in the house and this lame duck pres is just waiting out his time so he can go back to his Chicago mafia friends and live happily ever after, although probably not with Michelle.

PTBarnumWouldBeProud

Sorry, but it is actually up over 14%. You have to include those who've stopped looking for employment, but yet, remain unemployed. The 7.6% rate from April is measuring from a smaller pool of the American workforce. http://www.forbes.com/sites/robe...

Using the analogy that supporters of the President's policies that the rate is decreasing, is akin to something that most of us see in the grocery every day. Remember going to the store and buying a 1/2 gallon of ice cream? Many companies, Breyers for one, have kept their prices "the same" but reduced the size of their product from 64 oz. to 48 oz.

The 7.6% rate is extremely misleading, but it is one that is easily toutable to the proverbial low-information voters.

At Least our POTUS, whether black or white- race is not the issue- {he's actually over qualified}~~~isn't rubbing elbows @ dinner with murderers of good unsuspecting people Like yer good ole Bush eating dinner with his buddies Sadamn and BinLaden... Go figure-- I just love watchin all of Anti-Obama people slamming Our POTUS for things that have been going on for years and years-- But it is brought out WHY??? Because you are Racists and you really do not want to applaud his efforts and successes-- instead you'd rather find something to gripe about so that maybe you will get recognized as "THE ONE WHO SLAMMED OBAMA" If recognition is all you want then why not just go tell the Supreme Court Justice that you indeed have a hangnail and you just need someone to judge whether to bite it off or go to the doctor~~~ RIDICULOUS!!! Yes it is --- and the s.o.s. is still your ways of trying to persecute a man for the mistakes that previous repukes did years ago! And if Congress would have back Our POTUS in the last 4.5 years-- Our POTUS's Plan would have worked back then-- But no one wanted to give him a fair shake and they shot down every p.o.a. he laid out on the table... Are you really siding with the Iggit, wants to cut Education spending so that they can put that $$$ towards building a bigger prettier PRISON~~~~ really where is your Head--- Never mind WE ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION!!!!!
