A difficult time for Barack Obama's fans

Tom Jackson
Jun 18, 2013

It's becoming harder and harder for members of Barack Obama's fan club to defend their hero — as least when it comes to his defense for NSA spying.

As I documented in a previous blog posting, the president's director of national intelligence, James Clapper, apparently lied to Congress when he was asked if the NSA is gathering data on millions of Americans.

The president now owns that falsehood. He didn't fire Clapper or publicly repudiate him. Instead, Obama's press secretary, Jay Carney, went out of his way to praise Clapper's supposed candor during a June 11 press briefing:

Q. Is the President satisfied that the American people are getting straight answers from their leadership when it comes to American intelligence?

A. MR. CARNEY:  Well, he certainly believes that Director Clapper has been straight and direct in the answers that he's given, and has actively engaged in an effort to provide more information about the programs that have been revealed through the leak of classified information.

(The transcript is here.)

So, what's James Clapper up to now? Excerpt from a CNN report: "An administration official said Monday that Obama had asked his intelligence chief James Clapper to determine whether additional information about the data collection programs can be made public, part of what the official described as a 'broader effort the president is undertaking to have a dialogue on protecting privacy in the digital age'."

So the guy who gave a false statement to Congress, under oath, gets to decide the contents of the next White House press release on domestic surveillance?

Why is it that the person we call the POTUS and "fans" seem to be like our gov't is a "game"?

Last I checked, being POTUS was supposed to be that he wanted what was right for the people who VOTED or NOT VOTED him in. NOT for when he scored a "goal" in some people's eyes..

The presidency of the USA has now become a sport? When should I look for it to be considered in the Olympics?

If I don't like B. Obama and I also don't like H. Clinton .... am I a racist? How about if I also do not like B. Clinton or Bush for that matter .... Is it not possible that I can decide that I do not like a person simply because I DO NOT like what he/she stands for? I Am American ... I am free to have a choice (at least for a while yet). I do NOT make my choices of who I do and do not like based on skin color. I do NOT like Obama but I would vote for Dr. Benjamin Carson in half of a heart beat because HE is a great man. I wish Dr. Benjamin Carson would run for president. I believe he would be a GREAT President.

Isn't he the guy who completely (but politely) destroyed Obama's entire presidency and worldview over breakfast, standing a mere few feet away from the very uncomfortable-looking President Obama at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast? Ha. Yeah, I love that guy : P
I remember, looking at President Obama's face and, feeling certain that Obama MUST be thinking "I bet everyone in the room wishes THIS guy was the first Black president."

@ Mr. Jackson:

Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI), one of the authors of the Patriot Act wrote:

“How could the phone records of so many innocent Americans be relevant to an authorized investigation as required by the Act?”

How is it that the left originally hated the Patriot Act, but under Pres. Obama, it has been renewed and expanded along with the NDAA?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/20...

Isn't it rather odd that under Pres. Bush, the left decried The Patriot Act, but under Pres. Obama, his sycophants have come to embrace it and love it?

Reminds me of a "double plus good" line from "Nineteen Eighty-Four":

"You must love Big Brother. It is not enough to obey him, you must love him."

It seems to me Mr. Jackson that you have jumped the gun on your sarcastic reference to the President as a hero to we libs. Funny thing, last night on world news it was reported the NSA has thwarted over 50 terrorist plots due to it's actions. I was never one that had problems with the Patriot Act under GWB and have no issues with what the NSA is doing now. Call me one of those progressives who take the "better safe than sorry" approach.

JJr12

What if a Republican was President during these scandals? Then what would your tone be?

meowmix

Scandals???? Too much Faux News for you JJ! The NSA is not a scandal to me. The IRS and it's scrutinization of teabag organizations "not-profit" status may have been over-kill but then again, EVERY SINGLE APPLICATION was eventually approved, whereas, not all democratic/progressive applications were. Besides, isn't that the JOB of the IRS-to ensure all the right people are paying their taxes?--Romney would have lost, no matter what--get over it. Oh, and then we have the infamous Benghazi "scandal". THIRTEEN embassies were attacked under GWB--and I'm sure there was plenty of forewarning for a good portion of them! Why the indignation now?? Hypocrites--all of you fauxbots.

JJr12

Really? Ever single application was approved? Where are you getting your information from?

Did GWB ever have an Ambassador DIE during any of those embassies attacks and then LIE about the whole thing?

You want to talk about "Why the indignation now??" Yes lets ask that question. Why is it that when something is going bad for Obama it is everybody else fault and not his? But if the same thing happened to GWB it was his fault regardless of who's fault it was?

You see it's like Regan, when his administration did something without his approval he still stepped up and took the responsibility for the actions of his administration. UNLIKE Obama who doesn't take any responsibility but rather states that he has no knowledge. Like Holder has no knowledge but yet he signed the orders.

Hilliary did the smart thing and got the heck out before Obama could ruin her career for good. Though her "What difference does it make?" comment wasn't good, she won't have to worry to much about it because of the extreme LEFT Media will cover it up for her.

I see you watch and learn from the Left leaning media. Notice how you bring up the Benghazi "scandal" and then immediately leave out all facts about it and try and redirect the topic to how many embassies were attacked under GWB. But to correct you GWB had 11 attacks, Clinton had 1 and Obama had an Ambassador die during his Watch. But the FACTS don't support your cause so you redirect the topic.

This is Obama's presidency. NOBODY can now blame Bush anymore. Blaming Bush is like beating a dead horse. That cart has long gone.

The Tea Party, The IRS ‘Scandal’ — And The Actual Facts Of The Case
Specifically, while the IRS delayed confirming the tax-exempt status of some groups, and some also faced additional scrutiny, not a single Tea Party organization was denied tax-exempt status. In fact, the only known 501(c)(4) applicant whose request for tax-exempt status was recently denied happens to be a progressive group: the Maine chapter of Emerge America, which trains Democratic women to run for office. Although the group did no electoral work, and didn’t participate in independent expenditure campaign activity either, its partisan nature disqualified it from being categorized as working for the “common good.”

PROOF ENOUGH??????????????????????????????????????

JJr12

Maybe not denied but not approved either. In other words still waiting.

The Big Dog's back

Another teabagger living in a bubble. Sad.

S w Rand 2016

Even Left winger cable news networks are saying they are still waiting. Feel free to link us to a report if and when that changes.

The Big Dog's back

Get real rand, there are no "left wing" news networks.

There you go again

Hey, Bloggers, this article is about Clapper getting caught lying. Why all the nasty and ignorant comments about Obama, his puppet Jay Carney, and your hate for Fox News? Do you deny Clapper lying (watch the video) and Carney stating Obam's support (watch the video)? Why not comment about Obama's $60-100million dollar African vacation?

The truth hurts!

meowmix

Presidents Bush and Reagan took twice as much and three times as much vacation as President Obama has. Did you whine and cry about it then? No, of course you didn't. The "facts" you get from Faux News gets sucked into it and never come back out again. Only gas comes out instead.

Huron_1969

3X as much vacation time ? where did you get that info. Ridiculous response with no credibility

meowmix

Huron-- Try googling "Who took more vacations as President".

I bet that you wonder about all kinds of silly things that aren't true when it comes to President Obama eh?
