A difficult time for Barack Obama's fans

It's becoming harder and harder for members of Barack Obama's fan club to defend their hero — as least when it comes to his defense for NSA spying.

As I documented in a previous blog posting, the president's director of national intelligence, James Clapper, apparently lied to Congress when he was asked if the NSA is gathering data on millions of Americans.

The president now owns that falsehood. He didn't fire Clapper or publicly repudiate him. Instead, Obama's press secretary, Jay Carney, went out of his way to praise Clapper's supposed candor during a June 11 press briefing:

Q. Is the President satisfied that the American people are getting straight answers from their leadership when it comes to American intelligence?

A. MR. CARNEY:  Well, he certainly believes that Director Clapper has been straight and direct in the answers that he's given, and has actively engaged in an effort to provide more information about the programs that have been revealed through the leak of classified information.

(The transcript is here.)

So, what's James Clapper up to now? Excerpt from a CNN report: "An administration official said Monday that Obama had asked his intelligence chief James Clapper to determine whether additional information about the data collection programs can be made public, part of what the official described as a 'broader effort the president is undertaking to have a dialogue on protecting privacy in the digital age'."

So the guy who gave a false statement to Congress, under oath, gets to decide the contents of the next White House press release on domestic surveillance?

Meow - I hit the "Dispute Comment Moderation" button on your behalf. if that was the reason your post came back, I"m not 100% sure, but it was worth a try.
It's not all moderated by SR.
Odds are though , somebody out there screaming about their "rights" tried to take away yours --- because they didn't like what you said...typical Republican strategy.

meowmix

Thanks 4shizzle!!! Appreciate the back-up! I'm sure it had everything to do with my post being put back up!

There's truth in what GooseyGrandma says.
You can’t see it?

KnuckleDragger

Oh yes, I see it now. LOL. Another liberal white guilter, throwing up the race card.

meowmix

Can't remember exactly what I typed to get my comment deleted--although I can guarantee it was probably quite mild compared to alot of the things I'd REALLY like to say... :}

Nope. Obama's just planning to arm cannibals and negotiate with terrorists. But never mind! Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtains (and the myriad lies). It's Bush's fault!

shucks

You see no truth at all, huh?
You refuse to see.
What is that that the Republicans say ... dodge and deflect?

KnuckleDragger

Please tell us how that works, you liberals are the masters at it. When you can't defend the President, throw out racism.

shucks

KnuckleDragger-
My question was: Do you see ANY truth at all in what Meow said?
(update: crap! I meant GooseyGrandma)
Try hard not to dodge and deflect.

Seems like SamAdams was honest enough to recognize something since he didn't respond back.

SamA-- Please, did you forget about the GOP's anointed savior Ronald Reagan's gaffe-- or do you just have "selective" memory?
Iran Contra Affair
The Iran Contra Affair was a big political scandal during the 1980's. It involved members of the Reagan administration. In 1986 the people involved in this scandal sold weapons to Iran. Iran was a known enemy. They then used the money they got from the weapons to aid the Contras an anti-communist gguerrila organization in Nicaragua. In November 1986 the sales were revealed but Reagan denied them, but later that month he returned to T.V. to say they did happen but not in exchange for hostages.

At Least our POTUS, whether black or white...

Racer card?

S w Rand 2016

Uh, grandma. I think you are confusing President Obama with Senator Rand Paul. Especially the part where you say that Congress (The Democrat-led Senate, in this case) should back him instead of shooting down every plan of action that he lays on the table.
I have to assume that you do not watch Congress live on TV (you know, C-SPAN and C-SPAN2) and that you, instead, rely on media pundits and opinion bloggers to tell you what is happening.

The General

You r a goosey granny u cool aid sippin' race card playin fo, yo fazzizle

Things are so so so much better than they were in late 2008 at the end of the disastrous Bush presidency. Unless you want to return to double digit unemployment and the worst recession in the last 80 years...

I just read today that only 3 states have higher unemployment in 2013, and all 3 are led by Republican governors. So, it would seem as if Republicans are also getting exactly what they voted for...

Darwin's choice

WOW !! You are really swinging for the fence, aren't you? So, coasterfan, YOU threw Bush under the bus for a spike in fuel prices, yet under Obama's dictatorship, fuel averages for the past five years are higher than anytime in history! More than 47 million people on welfare or assistance of somekind, and that's just been raised since Obama's been in the white house. I can list a dozen more failures you blindly look past, you are the problem with the US now! Blind followers and low information voters are destroying our country!

Well said coasterfan! Now there is an act of intelligence that Knucle should take notes on-- maybe someday we can all pool together and share ideas to help the CIC with getting this country whipped back into shape-- Obama is doin' the best and right ideas for us-- Let's Help Anyway We Can! And not by slamming him for being Black or whatever-- He's a very Intelligent Man with nothing but good intentions! I Thank God Every Day For Obama Being In Office... I shudder to think We would all be today if ROBBME/LYANRYAN were in there! We would have already begun the 7 year Holocaust and WWIII! =(

Fromthe419

Yes, unemployment numbers are down and that is good. Do you really blame Bush for the crash in 2007-2008? It was the banks that crashed the economy and it would haven't mattered if Al Gore or W was in office. Who signed the Modernization Bank Act? The bill that repealed Glass-Steagal? It allowed investment banks to loan and regular banks to speculate in the market....that would be William Jefferson Clinton. You can blame Bush all you want, but Democrats had a hand in this as well.

S w Rand 2016

@coasterfan What, at this point, does it matter what Bush did (even IF you had told the truth about whether or not Obama signed 9 of the 12 appropriations bills for 2009..which you most certainly have not)?

If you want to find the guilty, you need only look in the mirror.
You could've worked to get Warren G. Harding re-elected in either 2008 or 2012 (in the person of Ron Paul) and we would've had another "Roarin' 20's."
You chose, instead, to viciously lie (left and right) in your effort to elect and re-elect a party whose leaders pounced on their perfect opportunity to make it appear as if Capitalism had failed (which the Dems' party leaders have done ever since gaining control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections).

Seriously, man..You could've at least nominated Democrat Dennis Kucinich in 2008 and the economy would be doing better also. He was running for POTUS, you know. You were all "star-struck" with Hillary and Obama, though. SMH.

Are you STILL trying to convince us that your party, whose leaders hold disdain for Capitalism, is trying to save our economy and that the Republicans, who love Capitalism, are trying to destroy it?
Mmmkaay?

The Big Dog's back

Gee rand, what happened after the "roarin' twenties"? Oh yeah, that Great Depression thingy.
