Obama official caught misleading Congress

Tom Jackson

President Obama, defending his domestic spying program today, said that Congress knows all about it.

"Obama said Congress had been fully briefed on the various secret programs, and suggested that lawmakers who disapproved of those initiatives or to 'abuses' could have objected," says this Yahoo News account.

Oh, really? A dramatic example has emerged of the administration's idea of "fully briefing" Congress: An Obama administration official who denied in testimony before Congress that the National Security Agency collects data from millions of Americans.

Here was the exchange between Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and the president's director of national intelligence, James Clapper:

Wyden: So what I wanted to see is if you could give me a yes or no answer to the question: Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?

Clapper: No, sir.

Wyden: It does not.

Clapper: Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertently perhaps collect, but not wittingly.

This was not exactly the truth.

Citation: Here and here.

The Bush administration misled the country by lying us into a war, and the Republicans in Congress today mislead us every time they open their lying pie-holes! So suck it up and deal with it.

anthras

I do not think that Bush and the republicans were the only persons wrong about the WMD's If he was in fact lying then so were the democrats listed below and I could have continued to fill a whole page with the quotes or as you say lies

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." — Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." — Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb 18, 1998

"Hussein has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." — Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." — Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein wiill continue to increase his capability to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East which, as we know all too well, affects American security."
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years .. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." — Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

So, after telling us that "domestic spying is good for you," and that "everyone in Congress knew," Dear Leader is targeting those who let "We the People" know that we were secretly being spied upon for phone records, credit cards and emails.

IOW: If everyone in Congress knew, how can there be leakers????

REAL DUMB for Pres. "I won!" to go after the news media - REAL DUMB.

It's too d*mn bad that ya often gotta go to RT, Al-Jazeera, The Guardian and other foreign media outlets to get the TRUTH and/or the FACTS.

Obviously in the Bizzaro world of Pres. Obama and his lil' pet Obamabots, ignorance is bliss: Be sure to listen to Bill Maher, MSNBC, NPR and the Comedy Channel in order to stay properly indoctrinated.
