The good news for residents of Sandusky when it comes to their government: The U.S. Congress is less capable of doing its job than Sandusky city commission is at handling its responsibilities.

But not by much.

The Big Dog's back

The Repub controlled House should either get moving or get out of the way.

Dr. Information

Obama should be thrown out along with every other Democrat and let the Republicans fix this mess. Barry wants another vacation with Michelle....booo hoooooo

The Big Dog's back

So let the people (repubs) who made the mess fix it? That's like calling an arsonist to put out a fire.

Maggdi

If by 'or get out of the way' you mean letting the tax hike now, spending cuts later proposal go to the floor of the House and the 'Repubs' vote present, I think I can go with that. Although it brings Charlie Brown, Lucy and a football to mind. I can then be assured the the other side of the isle gets to OWN IT!
Oh and remind me again when the last Federal budget was passed? Please remember who had control of the entire process the first two years of this administration before you answer. And there is nothing stopping the Senate from voting on a Bill first.

Mr. Westerhold writes:

"...the fiscal cliff with its potential to dramatically alter the lives of nearly everyone except the super rich,"

Mr. Obama keeps singing the praises of "goin' back to the Clinton Era tax rates." Guess we all get to enjoy "fecal cliff" diving.

Now, if Mr. Obama could just snap his fingers and magically re-create the collapse of the Soviet Union, plus the Internet and the housing booms which helped propel those "glorious" Clinton yrs leading up to a Y2K bust.

2012 - $16T Federal deficit
2016 - $20T Federal deficit

FORWARD SOVIET!

Dr. Information

Obamacare tax about to hit Jan 1. Hold on folks.....20 new taxes in that sucker worthy of raising another Trillion in funds per year.
"If you make less than 250K you won't see your taxes go up one red cent! Obama 2008. It's not a tax! Obama 2012. Fooled you twice, didn't I! Obama 2016."

The Big Dog's back

Watch out rich people, here it comes! BOOYAH!

Dr. Information

man your jealousy really stinks this place up. Big Dog just thinks that they won't feel the brunt of the fiscal cliff dive. Probably won't sitting in a metro home w./ his food card.

The Big Dog's back

Bring it on. Tax the rich!

SamAdams

Define "rich." But before you do, consider that the vast majority of small business owners — you know, the people who provide the most jobs — file taxes as individuals which means though they're NOT rich, the IRS (and Obama) can DEFINE them as rich. Which, in turns, means more small business failures and more job losses. Awesome!

As far as "bring it on, tax the rich" goes, well, I'm assuming you don't consider yourself to be "rich." I'm far from rich by anybody's definition, either. But if you think we're exempt from some VERY nasty tax increases just because we're NOT among those defined as "rich," think again. The only people escaping some unpleasant surprises in January are those who don't pay taxes in the first place (often those who live off OUR taxes and are responsible in part for Washington's serious spending problem as concerns entitlements, not to mention their lack of productivity making zero contributions to the economy).

On the other hand, for all I know, you're one of those Obama voters who voted for him solely because you wanted your government handouts to continue and, in fact, to get more of them. I can't imagine any actual working man with an IQ above room temperature voting for the redistributor-in-chief!

Dr. Information

Dogs definition of rich is exactly what Obama tells him it is. You know, because he can do nothing but regurgitate what the left has programmed him to say.

The Big Dog's back

sam sweetie, the election is over.

SamAdams

It is. And now it's time to pay for your mistake. Just wish I didn't have to, too...

I did notice that you completely ignored the question at hand. Let me ask it again in case you didn't read beyond the byline the first time around: Define "rich."

2cents

I posted this way back:

SO, WHAT IS RICH?
The flaw in that definition of rich is that plenty of families making $250,000 a year don't feel rich. They probably see themselves as upper middle class, especially if they live in blue-state coastal cities and suburbs. An income of $250,000 is a lot richer in Abilene, Texas, than in New York's Nassau County, where it takes $430,000 to enjoy a similar quality of life, according to bankrate.com. So let's call them the "working rich."

$250,000 or higher. And don't forget on the 1st 250,000 they make there wouldn't be any new tax. Only the amount after $250,000. Now I will wait for 2 cents to raise the bar.

goofus

Bull, Obozo will raise everybody's tax!!!!!!!

Dr. Information

Just as I figured. The big sheep can on regurgitate what Obama tells him to.

The Big Dog's back

Now would you define, in your own words, a small business owner.

SamAdams

The government defines a "small business" as one with fewer than 50 employees. Personally, I don't consider that to be all that small except in comparison with something like Ford or Wal-Mart, or even the average school district.

Look around at Sandusky small businesses. A lot of them have only a couple of employees! Now THAT'S a small business!

The issue, though, remains the $250,000 (or $400,000 or whatever)line above which you're "rich." $250,000 isn't a huge amount of income for even a small business. Sure, expenses are deducted and so on, but the tax rate goes up for those businesses that file as individuals and so profits go down. If a business is making ends meet but not getting rich, that will be more than enough to put it in the red. And unless you're the government, nobody survives long taking a constant loss!

Cost of living in a given area is also a valid point. Have you SEEN rental prices in New York City? Do you KNOW what a house in Los Angeles costs? And I'm not talking about especially nice areas, either! $250,000 here would probably be pretty comfortable; $250,000 in one of THOSE places would be okay at best.

Tax reform is what's REALLY needed. Imagine lower taxes, yet more tax revenue. EVERYbody's happy, and it isn't that hard. It's called a graduated flat tax, and it's far more fair to one and all than the current "soak the rich (whatever "rich" is)" mentality!

The financial and economically ignorant should be very careful what they wish for.

"The Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan think tank, says that nearly 90 percent of households would be affected if we go over the fiscal cliff completely and no deal is reached.":

My sled is waxed and ready to go.

SamAdams

What do you do for a living, Big Dog? I don't ask for specifics, but in general terms... Your willingness to pay more taxes, higher health insurance premiums, etc. has me intrigued.

The Big Dog's back

I deal with electricity. After living thru the high tax era of Reagan, this is peanuts.

Huron_1969

Are you referring to your shock collar ?

Swamp Fox

dog breath, explain why dirty Harry has refused to allow a vote on any House Budgets in the Senate since 2009, answer he is afraid that some members of his own party might jump ship. Fiscal cliff so important that obbie left town for his taxpayer funded Hawaiian vacation, while the House of Reps. stayed in session.

The Big Dog's back

Wrong again swampy.

You guys are all nuts. The Republican and Democrats are all to blame. There's no telling them apart. They have no regard for those of us living outside the beltway. Our country is being lead down the path of the Roman Empire. Leaders who don't lead. The whole bunch of them care only about themselves and getting reelected again.

SamAdams

I wish I could say you're wrong, but you're not. There's very little difference any more between the two major parties, and those differences are largely cosmetic.

I would note, however, a classic philosopher's comment. I believe he was Greek, but he was applying it to the fall of Rome and Greece alike. He said that a democracy will last only as long as it takes for voters to realize they can vote themselves largesse from the treasury. After that, financial issues alone (and, of course, greedy politicians who get theirs by promising lazy voters they'll get THEIRS) can and will take down even the most powerful empire. Guess where we're at on the timeline, eh?

donutshopguy

Sam,

Yep.
