Most expensive performance review in history

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

The recent antics of city and county officials amaze me, but I'd be surprised if they would have the arrogance to actually file criminal charges against police Chief Kim Nuesse to keep their agenda alive. There's just nothing there and they won't be able to make it up or make it stick. At the very least, there will be one wise man or one wise woman on a jury who sees through these political shenanigans.

Can you say "hung jury?" Can you say it twice?

So when all is said and done, the "integrity probe" will become the most expensive job performance review in city history. I hope the performance review city manager Matt Kline gets is far less expensive, much more decisive and is quickly rendered. I hope it gets done before Kline is allowed to make a self-serving decision on Nuesse's fate that will prove even more expensive to taxpayers and detrimental to good government.

One can always hope.

Enough already. Let the woman do her job and they should do theirs--competently!

Thanks Matt. You are closer to the truth than you know on 95% of your city remblings.

If she broke the law, why haven't they arrested her instead of fooling around with an investigation? If someone broke the law, they do an arrest and have your day in court. Why are we wasting all these taxdollars?

The judge said there is a second, uncharged person. Why is that being withheld. If there truly is another 'phantom' in this mess, why is it taking so long to have them charged? This entire thing is a witch hunt and those who are involved should just drop it and let this woman go back to work. It seems to me the taxpayers money could be better spent than on this nonsense. Either charge her, tell us all what is going on or back off.

Don't you have anything else to write about?

Are you serious? Fooling around with an investigation??? I think you have finally posted the DUMBEST blog ever!!!

Ok......I can't believe whatI just read. I hardly know where to begin. First I will address Matt.Whenever I read your articals I think I am reading some very unprofessional rag. Not a supposed real newspaper. How can you honestly say that there is nothing there and accuse others, without any evidence, that they will lie to convict another of a criminal act. Completely discusting journalism!

To Go figure. What do you mean "fooling around with an investigation"? Nuesse is the one costing us taxpayers. She is the one that has stalled the investigation. She is the one who has used legal manuvers she as a police officer should have known were not valid. No uncharged person is entitled to the investigation prior to questioning. If she would be charged with any offense without a proper investigation, then I might agree that this is a "witchhunt" as others have claimed. But that is not the case. This investigation has really not taken that long. It only seems that way because it is in the paper everyday. Many investigations take years. Just ask a real cop. And that would not be Nuesse.

Bunny....If Nuesse conspired with someone in the course of any offense then that will come out in time. I can't believe the poeple that think that this investigation must be shared with the public every step of the way. Talk about compromising a case.

What are your journalistic credentials? Please post them because I can't believe that you actually attended an accredited college or university with a real school of journalism.

Dear SR stockholders,

Are you aware of the trash that Matt publishes in your paper? Please review.

Are we going to give Murman five or more months to investigate this like the housing situation? Murman is laughing all the way to the bank at the taxpayers' expense. Never have I seen an investigation conducted in this manner or for this length of time. The city is flying under the radar with increment billing. The city has money to burn.

I don't agree with everything that Matt writes-come to think about it I usually do not agree with him. But there are those that do agree with the "trash"
that he writes but since you have the inside track to all that is true I should definitely defer to you.

would someone please stand up and defend don icsman. over the past few weeks i have read with interest about what a bad person and attorney he is. can someone give a positive review of him?

Anonymous

Are you serious about Don Icsman ?? Who, in their right mind, would give any credibility to an attorney! Furthermore, he is working as an official of the goverment, which disqualifies him in any realm of honesty, accountability or genuine care for his constituents.

Anonymous

Matt, you keep referring to this investigation as unsubstantiated witch hunting with no evidence of wrongdoing. Is there something you aren't sharing with your readers? Some information you know that we don't? As far as I can tell you keep saying there isn't any evidence against her, but I have yet to see whether there is or isn't. The general public hasn't been given any evidence either way. As far as I am concerned, you aren't any more forthcoming than the commissioners you criticize. If you know something that needs to be shared with the public so we can form our own opinion, please do so.

HERE HERE!!!

Don Icsman is not going according to the City Charter when he circumvented the commissioners and hired Murman. The newest revision of Section 25 of the Charter states: When it is anticipated an expenditure will exceed $10,000, FORMAL competitive bidding shall be required; NO such expenditure shall be split up for the sole purpose of evading this requirment. (Amended on 11-7-00) Had Icsman gone to the commissioners, they would have asked Icsman what evidence he has to warrant bringing in an investigatior. Murman was handpicked and there was no competive bidding for the services of an investigator.

Kim Nuesse should have listened to County commissioner Tomas Ferrell Jr. Remember Tom told Kim that she should do what her bosses tell her to do.So the moral to the story is that Kim should have listened to Mr. Ferrell.

What Matt does in his blogs and columns is called "editorializing". An editorial is based on the writer's opinion, not necessarily hard facts. This is Matt's opinion. As managing editor, this falls within his job description. Since you're all about professional journalism, you should have known this.

Anonymous

Matt, (Westerhold that is) What in the world is wrong with you? You just CAN'T get it! I would watch what you say.............

Anonymous

On second thought, I think it's too late.

MATT HAS EVERY RIGHT TO HIS OPINION. HE PROBABLY GOT FIRST HAND INFORMATION FROM KIMMIE. AND YOU KNOW HOW GUYS ARE. THEY GET SIDETRACKED WHEN A WOMAN SAYS WHAT A BIG MAN HE IS AND MATT PROBABLY ATE IT UP JUST LIKE MOST MEN DO. SO OF COURSE HE IS GOING TO BELIEVE ANYTHING KIMMIE SAYS. HE MUST BE THE PROTECTIVE TYPE, AND SHE FED HIM ALL THAT BALONEY HOW EVERYONE IS PICKING ON HER AND SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG AND THEY JUST DON'T LIKE A WOMAN IN THE JOB. WAY TO KIMMIE! YOU KNOW HOW TO ACT. MAYBE YOU SHOULD BE AN ACTRESS. SHE WILL GET HER WAY NO MATTER WHAT SHE HAS TO LIE ABOUT OR WHAT SHE HAS TO DO TO GET WHAT SHE WANTS.

Anonymous

All we can hope for is she isn't able to lie her way out this time.

Anonymous

I wonder if Icsman is getting a kickback from Murman.

Anonymous

Once again I do not know what Nuesse has done or not done but it appears there are a number of people that seem to know. PLEASE, give Murmann and his staff the information.Or is it that you have a personal vendetta as many here do?

Anonymous

I do not agree with Matt the vast majority of the time. However, I must give him credit for having the courage or stupidity of giving everyone the opportunity to personally attack him or others.
However, there are some that understand the dialectic process and choose this form of communication.

Matt is the freakin editor of the newspaper, he can say what he wants.

Matt isn't there ANYTHING else going on in your sad pathetic life that you can write about other than this?? I mean what will you do when this is all over and Kim is looking for a job? What will you write about then? Actually before this, I had never heard of you. Is this it from you?? Isnt there a cat stuck in a tree somewhere you can go can report on? C'mon Matt move on already....

Anonymous

Matt must have a crush on her. (have no idea what else it could be)

Anonymous

I think the sad pathetic lives belong to those of you who have to degrade everything and everybody.
