Change is good

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

The last paragraph from the Murman report executive summary recommends Kim Nuesse not be reinstated as Sandusky police chief "unless the city is prepared for the wholesale replacement of the command and support staff."

So be it.

Matt, I will give you 200 pennies for information on what you heard. Count them, 200 big ones. And if the whispers have some merit, I will give you a bonus of 50 additional pennies and will throw in a stick of gum. That is 250 coins in all. That's a lot of moolah. I will give you 2 days to think it over.

Where does Mr. Westerhold get all of his information? Seems strange to me!? Why don't you tell the citizens what is going on since you seem to get alot of info?

tinayak

Hey Matt where did you vote today??? Oh wait I hear you're not registered to vote!!! What a fake and a phony baloney you are Westerhold. Why don't you go see what Phares wants you to write about tomorrow.

westerhold is such good friends of nuesse that he loves making up lies about everyone else. what a reporter

Matt is just upset McDung didn't get his way.

Just Wondering

Matt what kind of drugs do you take which make you so delusional?

TT

It seems that previous poster are laboring under the delusion that Matt gathers and uses credible "information." He takes a situation, creates and molds details in his head so that he can feign indignation/vindication, thus securing his phony-baloney "blogger" position for another day. Never mind that his job title is "Managing Editor"; we all know he couldn't manage to edit his way out of a third-grade spelling test. Keep the crummy writing coming; the day you run out of self-serving nonsense unfit to print is the day you outlive your usefullness at the SR.

Appently yo mama never told you not to pick on someone who buys ink by the barrel. By the way, how is your mom? Is she still supporting you and doing your laundry?

Concerned citizen

Mr. Westerhold, I am very concerned about your comments about Mr. Murray. It seems as though "the person" who is "feeding" you all of this information is just another "gossip freak" seeking attention and bragging rights after seeing his/her "tattlings" in print. Instead of you doing what would be considered "fair and unbiased" reporting, you are falling right into his/her net of deception. Why am I concerned? I am concerned because of you not printing the truth. If you can't get the FACTS straight on your most recent article on Mr. Murray, what else are you misleading us about? Anyone who has been following the Murray for State Rep., campaign, knows that your statement about when his announcemet was made in relationship to him running for Ex-official Mayor, knows that this is just wrongful reporting. I am concerned that eventially most of the Register's readers will see this publication for what it is and will stop buying your papers or worse, advertisers will stop advertising and Sandusky will loose another industry/company that we cannot afford to loose....our only local paper and I am thinking strickly of your employees who will be displaced. I am concerned that you are going to cause irreversible damage to someone and that is just not necessary. Giving your personal comments/opinions on issues/individuals are one thing, however when you attack individuals just because you feel they have done something that you don't think is right (because someone gave you erroneous information) is just plain wrong. Mr. Westerhold, please go back and check your facts on this article about Mr. Murray, then have the decency to print a correction and learn from this. Further, regardless of our personal feelings of people, what you are doing is not making for an informed reader. All you are doing is running people down (maybe to build yourself up?) and these kinds of tactics always come back to haunt. Start reporting to make us informed readers and stop telling us garbage that is intended to make us "oooh" & "aaah" and tells us no more than how you feel personally. We don't care how you feel, Mr. Westerhold. We just care about the truth about what is going on in our community. There are plenty of things that you could print that would help advance this community. Wouldn't it be something if someone was planning to move here and read your personal comments about anything negative that you decide is important enough to put in print? I know if I were looking to relocate, the first thing I would do would be to get a few copies of the local paper so that I could get a feel for what is going on in that community. We have condos that are just sitting vacant, begging for people to buy them. We need businesses that we are trying to attract to locate and relocate here. Please don't chase potential residents/businesses away by reporting negatives and in some cases, such as this one, untruths about what is going on here. I have just one request.....PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS prior to printing your comments. And lastly, why not try printing something that would be more of a constructive critisim, if you must or even something positive for a change. Mr. Murray has done nothing to deserve this type of ridiculous attack. Thank you for this opportunity.

You said:" if I were looking to relocate, the first thing I would do would be to get a few copies of the local paper so that I could get a feel for what is going on in that community". I am just the party you described, but I have been an outside spectator and visitor for over a year now looking for a place to locate in Erie County. First, I have to disagree with you about the SR. I read many papers on a regular basis in my search, from Toledo to Cleveland on a regular basis. I find the SR to be the most informative on local matters and gives me a feel for the community and insight on its characters. You also say:Please don't chase potential residents/businesses away by reporting negatives and...." You may find that one of the main reasons one may not choose to invest in and relocate to Sandusky is, lack of pride in property ownership as well as the attitude and actions of your Chamber of Commerce. I do not know Mr. Murray and I do not have a dog in this fight, but, if he were involved in the interrogation of your Chief of Police, it reflects a poor understanding of the role of a City Manager. My suggestion to you is that you worry more about the physical condition of your City, like Cabana Jack bldg., boat houses east of Police Station, abandoned housing and the success of the Marina District. The Chesapeak Lofts are actually selling well considering the economy and if the proposed marina is completed, it will work out well and be a major improvement on the water front.

Two straight days of reporting on the Nuesse story and the public knows no more today than the day before the first story. Why write a story without the facts. Look for the complete story in the Journal as the true story evolves.

observer

Keep going Matt. Your are truly on to something.

Concerned citizen

To the outsider: I wrote the article to make individuals aware that the community is not being informed when untruths are being told. You are just the type of person that I am referring to. Read something and take it to heart without investigating and further, if you are the type to believe everything you read, you are probably the type to take these untruths to Mr. Westerhold. Go ahead, he will print them. And he won't even bother to investigate. Welcome to Sandusky.

Hey Matt,

When was Murray re-elected to city commission? According to the city's web site, Murray took office on Jan. 1 2006. It would appear that that you do not even have your facts right on something as simple as When Murray last ran for office. Which makes me wonder what else do you have wrong? Come on Matt, you can do better than this! Trust me Matt the Sandusky Resister’s readership would be better served if you would get your facts straight before you start posting wrong information on you own blog. I can only hope that you demand a higher standard for fact checking by your reporters than you demand of yourself.

Matt, that picture of you looks like you have some really bad gas. Next time, pass the gas prior to getting your picture taken. Just some friendly advice Matt.

Just Wondering

The whisperers are telling me that the chief is whispering in matt's ear. hmmmmm

Matt: Newspaper people don't or shouldn't make mistakes. Check and recheck your facts before printing a story. We don't want gossip, we want facts and it is your responsibility to get the facts. You come down hard on the bloggers, but you need to only look into the mirror.

So instead of being the better man, you have to pick on the person that pointed out that you were wrong.

I have to ask, what difference does it make when he announced? Are you just looking for reasons not to like the guy?

Anonymous

Maybe you folks are not aware of what happened to the last perfect soul. Since I found out, I gave up my search for perfection. Matt:Beware of perfection, it may lead to crucifixion. You are forgiven.

Matt, Why not put your journalism style to a test and do an Exposé on Chris Redfern? Where does Redfern get all of his money to live like a millionaire? How about writing about the thousands of dollars Redfern took out of his campaign funds for personal use? Mr. Democrat married Republican Kim Kahlert who is 11 years younger than Redfern. I also heard that Redfern lives in a very expensive house on Catawba? How can he afford this home? Where is the money coming from? Matt, do you have the "mangrapes" to do an unbiased story about Chris Redfern?

TT

Wasn't picking a fight with someone who pointed out one of your mistakes the basis for an earlier blog? Gee, Matt, in addition to not doing the job for which you are paid, and instead doing whatever tickles your fancy at the moment, you're not creative enough to have a blog!

IF I WANT GOSSIP INSTEAD OF FACTS I WILL BUY THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

Why does it matter that he announced he was running after the Marina vote, or are you just trying to lessen your mistake?

Oh, and it was real classy pointing out the misspelling. You could not just say "Hey, I was wrong" could you? You are just full of class.

In your March 4th blog entry you spelled City Manager Matt Kline's name wrong. Sorry, you are not perfect, I know how much that hurts you, but quit attacking people who correct you when you are wrong. It makes you look even worse than you really are.

Seven days without a new post while Matt has produced several. Do you have writer's block?

Well, some people enjoy finding mistakes. I confess to being a CPR (compulsive proof reader), but feel no compulsion to make a public comment and risk making a mistake of my own! There are plenty to go around! There is a saying amonst sailors that if you haven't run aground, you haven't been sailing! We all make mistakes, some worse than others. Typos get past proof readers as well as editors, and those who do the typesetting aren't perfect, either. I don't always agree with your opinions, Matt, but go for it anyway!

This so-called blog merely help to illustrate the concept that even chimpanzees when given a keyboard will ultimately produce a correctly spelled word or two if only by accident.

When is the SR going to do a full disclosure story about the actual services provided to private entities at the expense of the taxpayers such as the sewer lift stations serving private entities instead of private parties being required to provide their own lift stations to get their sewage to public lines? what government property is being given away in sweetheart "deals"? why are public storm sewers being dumped into the headwaters of the coves and channels silting in private channels and requiring costly dredging? why are all traffic signals downtown on flashing 4-way stops except Wayne & Water? Try doing some actual investigative reporting and try to improve the quality of SR and the Community that you claim to serve.
