Change is good

The last paragraph from the Murman report executive summary recommends Kim Nuesse not be reinstated as Sandusky police chief "unless the city is prepared for the wholesale replacement of the command and support staff."

So be it.

Huh? ALERT! DEATH NOTICES!!!!!!!

Huh??

Anonymous

I agree...why is this an alert?

To Sandusky OG...LOL...whatever. If you want to write hateful, racist things on these blogs, go right ahead. How am I going to stop you? You write your opnions and I'll write mine...and mine happens to be that those types of posts are not conducive to any useful dialogue. These blogs aren't the place to post hateful, libelous, racist tripe.

And by the way, the name I use is a handle, not my title, you tosser.

I have an idea for your next blog since you have not posted in some time. What are my duties at the SR? With such a long time between blogging, I am wondering if you needed a "vacation" to come up with an idea on what to blog on next.

This one is a freebie, but the next one will cost you. LOL

Looking forward to your next topic, whether it be mine or one of your own.

Helloooooo Matt!

I read in the newspaper last week that your blogs would be a regular feature. What does the term "regular" mean? If you are inhiding for taking it on the chin from Redfern, it's time to gear up again. If you are afraid of the Sandusky force, let your readers take them on.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Does the Register ever wonder if this blog will prevent people from cooperating for a story? If my kids were involved in something newsworthy and the Register wanted to do a story on it, I'd have to say no, because it doesn't seem to matter what the story is - some bloggers will write nasty comments and I wouldn't want my kids subjected to that. Even if they didn't read it, they could hear about it from someone. I've seen nasty comments about the most innocent stories . . .

Anonymous

Hey Matt, Why were my comments about Redfern taken down? All that I did was summarize what I read in other newspapers like the Toledo Blade, Columbus Dispatch and other news sources. Did Redfern call you again to complain about my comments? Hopefully Redfern reported all of those campaign funds on his income taxes. Hey Matt, why do they call Redfern "The Fern"? Ferns grow in "shady" places. Gee Matt, I was going to forgive you for posting that CCW list if you would report the TRUTH in our area. Maybe I was a bit premature in giving you "kudos" which I am now taking back. You can talk the talk but can you walk the walk? Don't worry about Redfern, he is just a typical panty-waisted politician. He will never compare to Marcy Kaptur who is a TRUE representative of our area.

Anonymous

Hey Nicholas White,

Please read the Discussion Guidelines again and again. I still cannot understand why you took down my comments. This isn't Nazi Germany or the USSR. Or is "Freedom Of The Press" dead in America? I have come to the conclusion that politicians will dictate what the newspapers will print. Sad.

Anonymous

I never thought about that comment before. I've been reading mean and nasty comments posted and I've read some very nice ones. Unfortunately, its the mean ones that prevail. I, like you, would not allow a story to be written about my child due to the fact that there truly are mean people out there. There unfortunately are people that feel the need to trash a young adult in this area and bring them down. So, maybe these blogs are a bad idea.

I don't know what you wrote, but you are free to start your own blog - then you can say whatever you want without fear of having it removed. This blog belongs to the Register, and if they remove something, they aren't trampling on your free speech. You can shout your comments from the street corner if you want.

Anonymous

Your self-righteous first amendment crap simply does not apply here! The Register is NOT obligated to provide a space for people to spew hate. If you take down this blog, you are not trampling on free speech. People are free to start their own blogs. Ahhh - but by maintaining a blog, you get to stir it up and use it to sell papers. Give me a break. You didn't start this blog because of the First Amendment!

Redfern is a little sissy. When you claim to be be a big shot, as Redfern does, you have to expect that your family and you are fair game. If it's too hot in the kitchen, the sissy should get out. If he would do that, we'd all be better off!

It would be a shame to see thought police type controls on blogs when there are only two basic abuse categories that are needed: 1) report abuse for obscenity and 2)report abuse for off topic comments that would include comments that hijack the blog when a blog begins to address a person's alleged adultery, spousal problems, or any perceived personal issues, persoanl orientations, or personal preferences.

Raising legitimate questions or statments of opinion should not be censored.

Purposeful misrepresentation of actual facts should be monitorerd, but not necessarily censored as most mis-statements could be easily challenged with another view of "the facts" by anyone who wished to access the blog so readers will best informed to develop their own opinions.

In the case of perceived or questionable allocation of campaign funds to cover housing expenses provded through a "live-in" arrangemebt with a lobbyist, if the facts are well established and also reported & documented by news sources, then let the truth and the breaking story ring out as was the case recently.

The SR, if not the bloggers, should tell the complainer to work on returning measureable results for his district to improve his political track record. OR, simply tell the whiner to get out of politics, stop trying to control the press, stop managing an image, and stop wasting everyone's time.

While "the fern" may not like the blogs, he now knows that all is not well if his voters can not wait for him to run out the clock as he takes care of himself first. A lack of productive leadership over the years proves how another wasted opportunity slips through the voters' hands whenever voters pull the lever for career polictians. More voters may be growing less trusting of "good ole boy" type politicans and their country club fiends.

Anonymous

free speech?? We don't have no need for no stinkin free speech. One minute for you!

Anonymous

Politicians have a lot of nerve stepping on free speech rights, but they will show up at your doorstep wanting your vote next time they run. They forget all about you until they need your vote once again.

Elsebeth never got railroaded she was alwaya a train wreck looking for a place to happen from the beginning!!!!!

To the poster at 3:52 PM. My comments were directed to Nicholas White unless YOU are Nicholas White. My comments had to do with "Freedom Of The Press" when little Chris Redfern complained about what Matt wrote in the blogs. I am not afraid if the SR takes down my posts. The SR has deleted many of my posts in the past. But what I was concerned about was Nicholas White's previous blogs, especially "The lessons of Deep Throat" where people put up factual information and angry politicians call in to have the comments deleted. All of the information is all over the internet on other newspaper sites. I guess it is all right if politicians use the newspapers to slander or spread misinformation about private citizens or even political rivals. I don't like when politicians dictate to newspapers what should or should not be written. Seems like Redfern and other politicians only want newspapers to write good things about them and not negative things.

Maybe you need to get a pair of reading glasses or you need better reading comprehension. I did NOT mention "free speech" which is an entirely different topic. And even starting up a website or blog to criticize government officials can get one sent to prison so "free speech" no longer exists. I have no idea why I have to reply to a bonehead such as yourself. I guess that I just had to lower myself to your standards.

Anonymous

When, Mr. Westerhold, is it free speech and when is it decency? Depends on who's side you are on , right?

TT

Nick, when's THIS vacation over?

TT

Comments gone again?

wow Know I'm being called a racist..now is that when you have no idea of my race nor did I say anything racist..I simply suggested you stroll the street of sandusky..And yes sorry I did get off topic..I apolagize for that..but please don't presume anything of anyone KING OF SANDUSKY

Anonymous

Do you have one example where someone was sent to prison for "starting up a website or blog to criticize government officials"? If so, I'll shut up. My point is everyone (including the Register) seems to think the Register has some obligation to maintain this blog. Its their blog. They can delete what they want or take it down all together without compromising "Freedom of the Press". Anyone can start a blog and that same person can take it down or decide what gets deleted.

Anonymous

Freedom of the Press mean the press can't be stifled by the government. It also means you're free to start a paper, and you can print what you want. Now if a government official talks to someone at the paper and they tone down or delete an article, the paper is free to do that. I'm not condoning that, I'm just saying it doesn't violate "Freedom Of The Press". Papers can print/delete what they want - that's Freedom Of The Press! Redfern's complaining to the Register in no way violates this freedom. In fact, Redfern is exercising his own freedom when he does that.

Anonymous

I commend you Matt for telling us all about the result of your Redfern blog. You didn't cover up what the outcome was of those comments. What I do not understand are the people that want to complain about a paper... saying it stinks or is one sided etc, but continue to read it. So who's the idiots here? If you hate the Register, don't read it! There are other papers out there that will give you the same stories as this one does... right? There I excersized MY right to free speech.
