Change is good

The last paragraph from the Murman report executive summary recommends Kim Nuesse not be reinstated as Sandusky police chief "unless the city is prepared for the wholesale replacement of the command and support staff."

So be it.

The Sheriff's Coffee Hour. You have to admit she is correct in every aspect on that video the Sheriff's cakes and ale party. She was correct in pulling her personnel out of the Erie County Drug Task Force as it was SPD's Officers doing all the work in the City of Sandusky where you had one Deputy Sheriff being Greg Majoy at the head position trying to justify his means. The SPD police were fortunate to have Cheif Nuesse recognize this problem as the SPD officers were just being used to justify Majoy's existence. The drug task force now at SPD much better serves our community now not having to carry that extra baggage.

After reviewing the video tape, what I feel is the current problem with the "truth relationship" and the SPD relationship with the Chief boils down to RESPECT. I am/was a Chief Nuesse supporter from the time she started her tenure. We can sit and argue back and forth about this all day, look at our country, state, county, city. Every issue is nearly fifty fifty, with so much divisiveness. The assertion this is about a woman and men not wanting to follow is quite frankly "ludicrous". The ones that really suffer are the officers, through no fault of their own are subjected to these blogs comments. The men and women who faithfully and passionately are dedicated to this city. These men and women aren't going to quit, it's not in their nature. These officers want to make the difference. These officers also want a leader they can Respect, not one that they have to wonder if they are telling the truth or not. Read the below listed leadership qualities, read all of the report, and if you believe that Kim Nuesse should still remain the Chief in this organization, bring her back.

Before we get started, lets define leadership. Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and skills. Although your position as a manager, supervisor, lead, etc. gives you the authority to accomplish certain tasks and objectives in the organization, this power does not make you a leader, it simply makes you the boss. Leadership differs in that it makes the followers want to achieve high goals, rather than simply bossing people around.

What makes a person want to follow a leader? People want to be guided by those they respect and who have a clear sense of direction. To gain respect, they must be ethical. A sense of direction is achieved by conveying a strong vision of

Trust and confidence in top leadership was the single most reliable predictor of employee satisfaction in an organization.
Effective communication by leadership in three critical areas was the key to winning organizational trust and confidence:
Helping employees understand the company's overall business strategy.
Helping employees understand how they contribute to achieving key business objectives.
Sharing information with employees on both how the company is doing and how an employee's own division is doing - relative to strategic business objectives.
So in a nutshell -- you must be trustworthy and you have to be able to communicate a vision of where the organization needs to go.

Respectfulness is the concern for a harmonious relationship with your family, friends and all other people in a society, respect should be a natural response of politeness which can not be demanded. The true identification of respectfulness values others for who they represent, with a concern not to look down onto other people. This results in the protection of someone else's personal or common values, so that opinions and persuasions do not harm the good intentions of someone else. Taking into consideration the views and desires of others and incorporating it into your decisions, i.e. being truthful to people. When you respect another, you factor in and weigh others' thoughts and desires into your planning and balance it into your decision making.

To vote more than once on a topic. Voted for the Chief to be reinstated, why? As far as I'me concerned, if this City was so willing to spend 20K+ of the taxpayers money to INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS of a hostile work environment, lying, wrong-doing, etc., they darn well should be willing to take it to the next step.....PROSECUTION, rather than buying-off (severance package) to just leave! Nice to see not everyone HAS A PRICE! Someone had commented back to me(on another site re same subject) that the City didn't want to go that route. They seemed to know what they were talking about. I would ask, why not? Now, it's been rather apparent over the last few years that the regular method of business is to just offer someone money to get rid of them, or when they really hold an important postion, they get a slap on the wrist, you know, diversion. The Union had commented that (if she were re-instated) SO MANY would be filing complaints and it's expensive. Thought that was already done, you know, as a WHOLE? Isn't that part of the reason one pays UNION DUES? You can get help w/a lawyer thru your Union, right? Or, is that different for the FOP? I think the CM, Commish's (at least 3 of them, of which one has run-away from home as well as responsibility in this matter) thought she'd take the money and run! She isn't, instead, she's fighting for her job, REPUTATION AND CAREER! If it's true the AG's office would pursue charges, than do it yourselves! Of course, we wouldn't know that FOR SURE unless they were ASKED TO COME IN, now would we?! See, that would be a TRUELY UN-BIASED REPORT, and more than likely not one filled with HE SAID/SHE SAID's or PERSONAL OPINIONS! It's been made quite clear that Murman has done work for our City Law Director for how long now, how many times, costing how much?! Any way you look at it, this whole situation STINKS to high heaven and it won't BE OVER just because she is terminated and the City says so. See, she's not the only one looking guilty of something here, and far too many questions are being left wide-open for the public. Remember them, they're the ones paying taxes and voting for your sorry, spineless, un-willing for some reason only God knows to seek Prosecution, soft behinds! Must be a reason! P.S. to think that 1 or 2 Comm. don't know what the CM is thinking, is like saying we all have STUPID TATTOOED ON OUR FOREHEADS! P.S.S. hey Matt, I don't believe you're in hiding! You've been printing quite a bit of things over the last 4-5 years, and that was well before Nuesse arrived! Of course, where there is a will, there'se a way to get rid of someone. We've watched/read that scenario unfold over the last few years now haven't we?

While I think your letter was well intentioned, most of it does not deal with Police Depts.. You can not apply those same thoughts of how to deal with a family or a business, to law enforcemnt. In Police Deptrs., you have an established Chain of Command. In this case, the City has allowed the Chain of Command to be tampered with by professional trouble makers and created this problem The only way out, is to put Nusse back to work and hope she can clean up the mess. To even think she owes any co-operation to outside agencies is a situation of ignorance. She is hired to protect Sandusky, not other areas. I think past practices of the Sheriff running the show have disturbed this relationship. Time to get back to the basics and put her back to work.

why doesn't the SR do a running total of how much the city has paid to Murman over the years? Since Icsman keeps turning work over to them, maybe they shoudl just replace Icsman with Murman and cut out the middle man. Instant savings!

Anonymous

you are correct... the outsourcing during icsman's reign 1998-2008 is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars...(squires, sanders & dempsey from cleveland) he plays a magnificent shell game of moving dollars through other dept. budgets to pay law firms that do HIS WORK!! the commission is ignorant of this game. sfterall, they work for him.

Perkins Resident

WE HAVE McCLUNE YOU HAVE NUESSE. DOESN'T SAY MUCH FOR EITHER THE SANDUSKY CITY COMMISSIONERS OR THE PERKINS TWP. TRUSTEE'S DOES IT. IT'S TIME THEY DO THE RIGHT THING AND OUST THEM BOTH.

Anonymous

Hearing there were 500 pages of the Nuesse report. What happened to the rest of the report and why did you stop at 224 pages?

Anonymous

I commend the Register for covering and being out in the open with the Nuesse situation. If it were not for the paper, a lot of things would never get out. I only wish that the Register would do more in exposing some of the other political maneuvering or posturing going on at city hall on other subjects. The transparency is not there and the reporters need to ask a whole lot more questions of what is going on at city hall.

Anonymous

What about a story on the gay midget that works as a seasonal employee at Cedar Point. Can you imagine going through your life being a midget AND gay? That would stink. This story must be told. Go forth, intrepid reporters!

Anonymous

Ya know what ,you ask what kind of person would do that? ..Nuesse supporters, SR .. I was just checking it because I found it so hard to believe that that many people would back her. Kinda thought that they were just voting and voting. Oh well, anyways, the anti Nuesse people got done with their fun weekend and started to vote anyways. YES! Ooops almost for got...I have more integrity than Nuesse or her followers...BELIEVE that!

Anonymous

What?? You commend the Sandusky Register? What is wrong with people? Why don't you get it? The register is biased, of course they are going to stick up for her and make all the city leaders look bad. That is all the public knows or sees is all the stories that the register writes about her that is all they can believe! What I hope, if she is not reinstated because of wrong doing, when it is all over with...the city finds a way to sue the PANTS off of the Register for the way they have slammed all of its leaders just for her!

I am challenging you to come out from behind your keyboard and say these things to real live MEN, which you arent!! Go down there Matt, tell them to their faces, Hofacker, Frost, Sams, Jarrett go Matt and try not to let the sound of your knees knocking distract you from saying these things to their faces. Youre a coward anyone can WRITE anything and put their name on it, come out from behind Kimmies skirt and walk the 7 blocks to the City Building and talk the talk Matt COWARD!!!

Anonymous

Why not put your money where your mouth is, Mr. or Ms. Keyboard Commando? Who are you?

Anonymous

Please, call them "little people", NOT midgets!

Anonymous

Keyboard Commando? How fitting. Hofacker, Frost, Sams, Jarrett? You must mean the backstabbing whiners? Kline should get rid of them before they start picking on him, which they will. I have more respect for the gay midget than these Keystone Cops.

Anonymous

I am the silent Majority who is SOO tired of Westerhold using the paper as his platform, the RIGHT people know who I am so it is unimportant to me that you dont. If you stand up for Westerhold, then you are as big a jerk than he is. I have a job I need to protect and I know that one day we will all be laughing at Westerhold and his "Nuesse Gate" rap......

Anonymous

I thought spd officers received a fair salary, more than me on paper. Can't they afford to buy their own meals and drinks. Why do they have to be comped to do their job, I think this is a big obstacle and why cops hate her

Anonymous

I agree with Westerhold

Anonymous

So, in plain speak, you're too big of a panty wast to give your name despite the fact that you're 'challenging' Matt W. to go talk 'face to face' with the officials you named in your original post? Let's et ths straight: you feel that you can anonymously (sp) challenge someone, using your job as the excuse for your anonimity (sp), to go do something without fear of having egg on your face when the challengee goes and does what you suggest (talk to the fat coppers)? Basically, you're a punk, then?

OK...I have a question for all these commissioners and "interim" police heads and our so called city manager. I personally seen two of our city snow plows they day of the blizzard, March 8th, plowing out Barnes Nursery on Cleveland Rd, clearly outside of city limits in Huron Township. Now just this past weekend I saw a Sandusky City cop sitting at Wiegles Point clear out in Castalia on Route 6, again clearly out of city limits in Margaretta Township...who is answering for this expediture of our tax dollars? I have to pay taxes for the CITY, not the surrounding townships, who is paying for that?

Anonymous

Stick to the point - it's probably something called "assistance", "cooperation", or just plain "help". Why is that a big deal?

Anonymous

As for the police officer sitting at wiegles point, that is where SPD meets Fremont or Sandusky County when they or we have a prisoner. That way neither one of us have to drive the entire way. We turn them over. It is all part of co-operation between agenies.

Anonymous

See, Nuesse followers have NO idea what is going on. Always running their mouth's about this and that and don't have a clue. You know what I find amusing? EVERY time they have something to say about why were the cops here, why were they there, why was a fire truck here or there, why did we get a snowplow on that day and not the other, all the stupid accusations, an answer (a sensible one at that) is given to them. When an anti- Nuesse person asks a question of them or Westerhold...ya NEVER get one! TYPICAL!

Anonymous

Get rid of the editor of the Sandusky Register.

Anonymous

I talked to your wife...and one thing she is not amsed by iss your small member...

Anonymous

You're a rocket scientist...........for sure.

To answer your questions, the city plows were on cleveland Rd, that day ref. mutual aid in trying to get Cleveland Rd. opened due to the largte amouint of idiot drivers that had the roadway blocked. We also worked with PPD that day on another portion of Cleveland Rd.

As far as Wiegles Point, this is where "We" SPD met with Sandusky County Sheriff's Office and Fremont PD, when we either are picking up a prisoner or dropping one off. It's approx. half way, so each department don't have to travel the entire distance. Sounds like saving money doesn't it??????????

Simply put, agencies helpiing other agencies!! I was work both those days, so look else where with your tax payer claims. I pay taxes in Sandusky also, so those were on me!!!!!

Anonymous

I see why Officers would meet at Wiegles Point, but I see no reason for Sandusky St Dept., to participate in clearing roads in Perkins Twp. Your idea of "simply put" could have repercussions when there is an accident and someone looks into the liability issues and why you were outside of your area, This is not YOUR exuipment, it belongs to the City of Sandusky and should remain, in Sandusky, as well as any employee on the clock.. I also think your attitude as well as others on the City payroll who bristle when someone questions if certain actions are on the up and up, reflects poorly on you. The residents have a right and responsibility to keep an eye on you and the elected officials.

Anonymous

You know....seems a lot of very defensive repsonses here, and do not call me stupid, nor am I a Nuesse follower. It seems highly intelligent that those of you on here that are city employees of some kind have to result in insults to those of us that pay your salaries. It's all about accountability.

I am simply a resindent of the city of Sandusky asking a legitmate question. All it required was a legitmate answer.

Also on behalf of the snow plow answer below...some of those "idiot drivers" had somewhere very important they had to be...personally, I was in an off road truck when I passed these plows, there was no other vehichles in the area.

Not to mention when a specific person involved in the city was asked this question, we were told they were getting salt from Barnes. However, only days later there was an article in the paper how Sandusky was one of the few locations with salt still available, not sure how many tons at the time, but it was here.

So...the next time I can't even get a plow down my street for two days and when they do show up, they plow everyone in because it's a dead end street, I will again ask, why are they in Huron township instead of Sandusky where they belong!

Anonymous

So, what's up with the story regarding the gay midget? Are you guys going to follow up or what? His story is compelling and also a little sad. It's be a great read for the sophisticants that live in the Firelands area.
