Watch Baxter squirm

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

The Nuesse-gate hearings begin later this month, and we'll hit this story as hard as ever. One of the stars on the city's long list of witnesses is none other than the old wise man himself, Kevin Baxter.

I'm not sure the hearings will even come off. At this point the city likely is looking for any way possible to extricate from this Murman report debacle, and Baxter's looking for a way out, too. There's just no way he wants to be cross-examined about his Murman statement. He already took a big lame-o shot at making some corrections to it after the Register questioned inaccuracies, but his cross-outs and new notations in the margins of the Murman report were nonsensical and almost incomprehensible.

Baxter will squirm under cross-examination from attorney K. Ronald Bailey, or he will squirm away from being forced to testify. His Murman statement is riddled with misstatements and holes you could drive a Hummer through.

Look for some hot Dog Days come Aug. 25 if the hearings do go forward as scheduled. The Nuesse-gate special section at sanduskyregister.com will be updated throughout each day of the hearings with live blogging from city commission chambers and video coverage of the testimony.

This is going to be interesting.

I was chastised once on this forum for name-calling, so I won't. I do want you to know that you are entitled to all of the opinions that you post. I have a neighbor who writes this type of rubbish on a hand-painted sign in his front yard. You must both belong to the I Love America and Hate Anyone Different From Me Club.

I am different, so you must hate me enough to want me to give my country to you--not happening. I just don't believe that a Democrat will break down my front door and take my guns. I know that I have the right to arm myself and that that right is guaranteed by the Constitution in order to keep my government from tyranny. I believe in God AND science. I think that our schools have enough to teach without taking the place of my church. I pay more in taxes than you likely make, and I pay more in taxes now than I did eight years ago--local, state, tolls, car plates, sales, etc. Stop and think about your total tax bill and not Washington hype.

You sure spew a lot of hatred for a person who voted for the political party that has been running our county for years. You should be pretty happy about the results. Whats that? You mean they didn't put Bibles and prayer in schools, make abortions illegal, euthanize all gay people, and truck everyone that sounds like they have a Latino accent over the southern border? I guess they just weren't American enough.

Very well said. Thank You!

It will be up to Nuesse and her attorney to prove the accusations made against her are FALSE but first the ACCUSERS have to show evidence that they are TRUE. What EXACTLY are the accusations, anyway? I don't believe this has ever been told.

Anonymous

I agree that your neighbor might be a little of an extremist, but on the other hand, maybe, just maybe he isn't. You say you are different, what does that mean? Do you have 2 heads, 4 arms, or illegal immigrant, or were you born here with parents from another country? Just guessing from what you wrote, I'm going with the latter. Maybe there is something you do in your daily activity that makes him angry with you, such as speaking to him in your native tongue.
I'm relatively sure from the way you have written your reply and have been called down for childish name calling and comparing your tax bracket without knowing the party you are writing to that we have in fact crossed paths here on the blogs before. I will tell you this , just recently another illegal was given a lethal injection in Texas. Even the white house tried to stop it, but supreme court said green light and go ahead. You probably think that was a cruel and unjust punishment, but if you spoke to the parents of the two girls that were 11 and 13 if I remember correctly were raped, stabbed and left dead in a field. There were 5 illegal's involved and they had been deported before, but continue to come here. Three have been executed already that were involved and the others are awaiting their turn on the last ride on the gurney. When the father was interviewed , he stated that he can hardly wait until the next low life has his turn on the table that was responsible. As you can see all the diversity in the world won't change things in this century. One more thing, I think it rather obtuse and brash for you to make the statement that you pay more in taxes than I actually make a year, but then again insecurities always surface when backed into a corner. I will tell you this my property taxes are now at $4,752.63 a year. If your neighbor is putting home made hand painted signs in his yard I'm almost positive you have your tax statement in total reverse with me.

I don't believe Mr. Baxter will be squirming. Last time I checked, he is still the prosecutor and Tim & Kim are both FORMER Police Chief's.

Anonymous

whatever happened to unbiased reporting? The obvious glee with which the reporter looks forward to Baxter "squirming" makes it quite apparent that he's unable to report on this situation objectively. The media in general these days seems to have forgotten what journalism is all about. Granted, this piece is an editorial, but to go from this type of editorial and then try to recapture credibility as an unbiased reporter (not that I thought that in the first place) is humanly impossible. How sad that the media has fallen to new lows everywhere you look.

Well, sure you are. That's how more Democrats are made, after all...

That's because Baxter is the prosecutor so like who's gonna prosecute him? But don't forget--there isn't anybody on the face of this earth that is so great and powerful they can't be replaced.

For somebody that's always knocking the SR and makes the claim that you only subscribe to the Lorain Journal you sure do make enough comments.

Anonymous

I never said I don't subscribe to the SR. I do. I just stated that I have also begun subscribing to the Journal because I feel the SR has made some changes that I don't like, and has changed into a newspaper that relies on sensationalism and biased reporting. I keep hoping to see some glimmer of hope that the Register will change, but so far it just gets worse.

Anonymous

I don't believe that the SR is relying on sensationalism and biased reporting. They didn't form my opinion on the Nuesse case or anything else that is going on in Erie County. Like most people, I can make up my own mind.

Anonymous

I would be willing to bet that the SR has had some to do with your opinion. Well....you just might be one of the few "friends" she has.

Yo, Bro Dumbocrats, I like the Erie Co Dumbs who wannabe cut from the same mold as Jessie Jackson and John Edwards... at least those two have some class in the way they manage their personal lies, something the Erie Co Dumbocrats have not yet mastered....at least that Redturd guy has somebody paying his bills... and he is going to set up his successor who is doing a bang up job of wannabeing a GOB

I've read all the blogs and find it curious that the pro-republican people truly believe that suddenly this country will have some money problems if the Democrats get in. Apparently you missed the article about the Erie County Care facility that needs a levy to stay in business. Medicaid has frozen it's payments to care facilities. Medicaid and Medicare are suffering so our elderly must suffer. Meanwhile, how many billions have we GIVEN to Iraq? This is a country which could easily support themselves with their oil reserves, but we continue to GIVE them whatever it takes. I don't know what planet your from, but if you think what we've had the last eight years is good, I am scared to think about what you expect in the future to top it.

Anonymous

where the Editor in Chief of the SR stands regarding this topic! At least HE'S BEEN HONEST! With the hearing NOW POST-PONED until September (why am I not the least bit surprised), of course to get LEGIT STATEMENTS from over 2 dozen individuals involved, of which they should of had in the beginning for that so-called Murman Report they used to base their decision to FIRE THE POLICE CHIEF......Seems to me the powers that be, city-wise, have a problem with those that just don't see eye to eye with them and are more than willing to stand TOE-TO-TOE. We've seen how quickly the ministers BACKED-OFF!

WHY I AM VOTING

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on
a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe discussing Christ in our schools is offensive but atheism, Islam, Buddhism, Occultism & any other religion is OK because these religions are peaceful & Christians are warlike.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, when they come over here I don't want to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse. "

Why I am voting Republican:

I'm voting Republican because I believe the government will spend even more of my money on the Iraqis so they may experience the American Dream.

I'm voting Republican because I believe the sky is the limit for oil companies and their CEO's.

I'm voting Republican because freedom of speech is fine as long as no one bad mouths the war, because that, of course, would mean you are unpatriotic.

I'm voting Republican because I believe as long as we can borrow money from China to give to our people as 'stimulus checks', the more money we can scrape up to send to Iraq.

I'm voting Republican because I won't be deceived by extreme weather changes, flooding, or anything else that might support global warming.

I'm voting Republican because the 'Right to Life' slogan only pertains to unborn children and not the innocents on death row, because of our infallible justice system.

I'm voting Republican because, as a long time business owner who can barely get through quarterly taxes let alone end of the year taxes, I cannot be disappointed in yet another Republican run.

I'm voting Republican because I can't see having my constitutional rights upheld (phone taps, companies in business, who provide those taps, being protected, and a miriad of other protective measures) because of those who MAY have a different agenda. Big brother knows best.

I'm voting Republican because I believe when the terriorists finally break through our inpenetratable borders, we'll be ready with our machine guns in hand.

I'm voting Republican because I believe in the rights of all people, regardless of race, religion or sexual preference. Wait a minute. Is that Republican? Oops.

Anybody notice how judge Binette ruled that Nuesse wasn't entitled to the accusations made against her prior to questioning BUT the good 'ole boys get as much time as they need to plan out their strategy? Doesn't take a brilliant rocket scientist to see where this is headed........

Anonymous

Let's get this Nuesse case over with. Offer her an undisclosed amount of money and be done with it. Nuesse will be gone wackjob EB is tucked away safe and sound in prison and were back to normal. Ever hear of the calm before the storm?

Anonymous

this is a case of "the chickens coming home to roost". justice will prevail, one way or another.

Poor Kevin if you ask me it has been a long time comming for him getting his just rewards now,He has always walked around sandusky like he was above the law.Sorry Mr.Baxter you should be squirmming have fun.To bad K.Ron is already representing someone you may need a good lawyer and remember the old saying only a foolrepresents him self.

Anonymous

JUSTICE will prevail in ERIE COUNTY? I doubt it----they don't even know what the word means.

Can someone confirm that the hearings have been postponed until September and why?

First, you should know that I am WASP--3rd generation American Scott. Second, my tax bracket presumption was made from county record generalizations.

I should have been more direct in my comment. I am different because I should be voting Republican based on my race, income, profession and the fact that I come from a military family. Again this is based on historical generalizations.

I will be voting for Democrats this fall, or more specifically, anybody who is not a Republican. This too is different for me. I usually vote as an Independent--issues.

I dislike the divisiveness associated with Republican candidates. Issues are starting to pop on various state ballots related to same-sex marriage, abortion, guns, and affirmative action. These are put on the ballot only to get conservatives to vote and think about candidates as being "different".

My neighbor does not write his yard signs directed at me. He is angry with the world. I just happen to live near him. He is only one part of the FOX vocal group that sings to the choir. This makes him believe that people WANT to hear his message and that "everyone" agrees with what he has to say. What makes me different is that I believe that he has the right to post his signs. A very democratic belief. I just think it makes him seem silly and clutters up my neighborhood.

To Really:
Thank you. My point exactly. How could the Democrats do any worse job.

To Why I am Voting Democrat/Republican:
You will likely get your wish. I am pessimistic about the American people voting for a black man. We are a sorry lot. Be prepared to walk to talk. So far our countries problems have only worsened with Republicans in power. Will you be accountable? Will you tell your grandchildren that when given the opportunity to change the direction we were headed in you chose to vote for the white guy?

To horse lovers everywhere:
Have at it. You could even put a sign in your front yard--"Just Married".

To anyone voting Republican this fall:
Haven't you had enough? What will it take? A war with Iran? Your taxes going up--we eventually will need to pay for the current wars? I really want to know.

TO: Rere RE Yes Im a bad American post on Aug 11, 2008 9:26 AM:

The deomcrates have the power in the House & Senate. So in 2 years time, they have done nothing.

Obama even said in a speech about a month ago that his opinion was that gas prices should rise to this level. Apparently he has no idea what higher energy costs will do to the American economy. He likes socialist economics (the way the USSR was - take from those that have and give to those that have little - you see how well that worked in Russia). His plans for America has a 50 billion dollar price tag. And where do you suppose that money will come from? From you & I and are wallets in more taxes.

He is too inexperienced AND a socalist.

I'm not for McCain either, however, I do think he is the lesser of 2 evils.

It is sort of revealing that you assumed that I was not an english-speaking "other".

As far as the death penalty goes, I think I would prefer to keep felons proved to kill in jail forever. There have been too many people proved not guilty through after-the-trail DNA testing. The cost($) of the death penalty is higher than life without parole. If I were non-white and arrested in Texas I think I would be worried. Again this is a change for me. I believed that the death penalty was just until reading about people being put to death and then later finding that they were not guilty of the crime. One wrongful death is too many. I don't think we can take the chance. We are human and fallible, but death is forever.

As far as the illegal immigrants problem goes, I'm thinking that the Republicans own the problem. Follow the money and political polls. The money says that cheap labor is good for business. Political polls urged the Republicans to crack down.
