Watch Baxter squirm

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

The Nuesse-gate hearings begin later this month, and we'll hit this story as hard as ever. One of the stars on the city's long list of witnesses is none other than the old wise man himself, Kevin Baxter.

I'm not sure the hearings will even come off. At this point the city likely is looking for any way possible to extricate from this Murman report debacle, and Baxter's looking for a way out, too. There's just no way he wants to be cross-examined about his Murman statement. He already took a big lame-o shot at making some corrections to it after the Register questioned inaccuracies, but his cross-outs and new notations in the margins of the Murman report were nonsensical and almost incomprehensible.

Baxter will squirm under cross-examination from attorney K. Ronald Bailey, or he will squirm away from being forced to testify. His Murman statement is riddled with misstatements and holes you could drive a Hummer through.

Look for some hot Dog Days come Aug. 25 if the hearings do go forward as scheduled. The Nuesse-gate special section at sanduskyregister.com will be updated throughout each day of the hearings with live blogging from city commission chambers and video coverage of the testimony.

This is going to be interesting.

More blogging? Do not get me wrong, I want you to cover the Nuesse-gate thing "as hard as ever" but please make it responsible reporting. No offense but from reading some of their stories the only person down there that is able to write facts and not let his emotions come into play is Tom Jackson. Live blogging will just add to this. Please, just give us the facts, not opinions.

Anonymous

You should remain a journalist whether you are blogging or writing an article. I'm on your side with Nuesse-gate, but quit calling yourself a journalist! Get out of the newspaper business! We're smart enough to form our own opinions if given the FACTS. You're starting to turn me the other way.

Sam

Why not ask the question. Why does Matt use the Register as the personal public relations tool for Kimmie?

Anonymous

MATT:

I mentioned this thot to a Register court reporter a couple of weeks ago:

"Why not do the video coverage LIVE?"

Call Pat Deville, partner with the cable company. Jointly sell advertising. The Register promotes, cable airs. Both share the revenue. Donate a decent percentage to the United Way---or others.

Matt, I predict that marketing and sales people at the Journal, Cleveland and Toledo will be looking into this as a money-maker. That's why I suggest the donation.

NOW, for those bloggers who find fault with everything, who see this "commercial"" idea as disgusting, that's just too d-mn bad. TV and newspaper Advertising are both plagued by this nation's economy which will ultimately result in "two" groups---the wealthy and the poor.

Might as well level one more idea--just for consideration. And this has been my message for more than two years -- VOTE AGAINST EVERY REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF CONGRESS WHEN THAT OPPORTUNITY ARISES. They have sat idle and offered a "tv SPONSORED" congressional dog-and-pony show for us Americans. The oil barons came to a hearing, explained all of the "whys" and IT WAS OVER."

I will never forget the press conference held by President Bush about a year ago, I believe at his ranch/home in Texas. I think gasoline had just risen to $3 per gallon. He was asked for a response to non-stop escalating cost of fuel.

Mr. Bush said: (somewhat out of context) "What is happening is based on supply and demand. It's the American way. It's the way we have always done business."

Perhaps, at this time, I may be prejudicial when I add that I felt he was smirking when he said the above.

Matt, direct a brief blog to me if Cirigliano would deny live tv coverage. Later.

Get off your high horse and get real, Matt W. is just expressing the same things a whole lot of people are wondering and asking themselves. Sometimes it takes someone to bring these same thoughts and questions out into the open before people start to question what is really going on behind all this. This is the reason for these blogs in the first place. To the person who calls himself "Matt", when you state "We're smart enough to form our own opinions if given the FACTS", how do you know what is printed is the facts. This shows a narrow minded individual that just believes what is printed is the facts. We need blogs like this to bring up more facts or supposed facts so you then can make up your own mind. Keep up the good work Matt and I mean the real Matt.

Matt are you going to try and make me believe that this is the only thing you can write about?? I use to think that alot of the posters on here were out of line when they climbed all over you, but you really are bordering on obssession here. Are you trying to get the movie rights to this or something? Ok, who can play you in the movie......if Jim Varney were still alive he would be ideal, but he isnt so who can we get. It will have to be someone who is accustomed to playing the role of a pathetic newspaper editor whose only talent seems to be slinging mud at public servants then hiding behind his office doors. Also the person has to learn how to chase after a woman that if not for being able to use him and his newspaper, would never give him the time of day.

I mean what have you been doing the past month or so since this story became history Matt? Obviously nothing productive or you may be able to discuss something other than a woman who is way too hot for you. This is not that small of a city Matt, isnt there some other group you can offend or do you get some kind of thrill at insulting people you can never measure up to? Hmmm...so sad...

Matt, Democrats and people from Cuyahoga (Murman and Cirigliano are both connected to Cuyahoga County) are the ones going after Nuesse. Currently, there is an FBI probe going on in Cuyahoga with corrupt Democrats.

Now the Cuyahoga County corruption probe has spilled over to home in Ottawa County. Many of those named in the probe by the FBI have property and homes on Johnson's Island. I haven't seen the homes myself but they must be worth some big bucks. I have to wonder where the money came from to buy these second homes away from home. Now don't get me wrong but some Republicans are corrupt just like some Democrats. But all of those involved in the FBI probe in Cuyahoga are Democrats.

I do look for answers to a lot of my questions when things just do not seem right. For example the Nuesse case. All of those players seem to be Democrats along with Murman and Cirigliano who are both tied to Cuyahoga County.

Anonymous

I am watching this Nuesse situation unfold because I think it is a key as to what has been going in Sandusky for years. If we can ever get close, the FBI can come in and clean house just like they are doing in Cuyahoga County. We need to just have one thread open up and the whole thing unravels.

Your comment, "VOTE AGAINST EVERY REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF CONGRESS WHEN THAT OPPORTUNITY ARISES. They have sat idle..."

FYI, the deomcrates have the power in the House & Senate. So in 2 years time, what have THEY done?.......yep, that's what I thought....NOTHING! ! !

Obama even said in a speech about a month ago that his opinion was that gas prices should rise to this level. Apparently he has no idea what higher energy costs will do to the American economy. He likes socialist economics (the way the USSR was - take from those that have and give to those that have little - you see how well that worked in Russia). He is too inexperienced AND a solalist.

I agree with you. The Dem controlled congress has accomplished NOTHING in the two years they have been in control. Shame on Pelosi for going home for summer vacation when the Gang of 10 wanted to do what they were elected to do...represent the American citizen. The gall of that woman to turn off the lights and mics is unbelievable! She definitely has an over rated opinion of herself!

Anonymous

Prior to the dems slim majority in congress, bush exercised the veto once--against stem cell. Since the dems gained a slight majority dubya has exercied the veto 8 times. Furthermore, in 2004, candidate bush said he would cut the deficit in half by the end of the second term--instead the deficit has doubled. Before you blame the dems, maybe the republicans should accept some responsibility for the idiot they put in the whitehouse.

Anonymous

What have the dems done to reduce gasoline prices....that's right NOTHING. And do you want to know why? Many of the dems in congress own large amounts of stock in big oil, so they don't want the price to drop.

The "Big 10" (referred to below), want to do something NOW to begin to reduce energy prices. But Peolosi and her hard liberal lefters don't want to do anything about the situation and she proved that last week. So don't blame "DUBYA" for the dems doing nothing. He isn't standing in their way now! For the record, I don't think he is a good President. However, the dems find it too convienent to blame him for their blunders.

Also, if Obama is elected, you can count on your taxes to rise dramatically for all the new programs he wants to implement. His programs will cost over 50 BILLION dollars. And where do you think that money will come from? OUR wallets! ! !

What has this to do with Kevin Baxter? He's just as corupt as any other politician (especially the far left, liberal Dems and the media).

Anonymous

When was your last trip to the gas station? Are you on Mars? I just paid nearly a buck less for premium than last month.

I guess the Dems left Washington to go home and talk to idiots like you. Of course talking real slow will likely not make you understand that there are several reasons that gas prices are increasing. Not the least is that there seems to be less petrolium in the ground now than 50 years ago--imagin that.

So, what is it that you think that the Dems should have done now that couldn't have been done in the last 13 years, while the Reps had the power to make change? Sounds like the house speaker was saving energy and reducing hot air.

What? Drill more! Ok, how about in the Sandusky Bay. We might get a gallon or two. Anyone hear if the Mississippi River has opened to shipping after the last oil spill?

Do I like spending $40 to fill my tank? No, but its not like I didn't know this was coming. Sort of the reason I spend $40 instead of $100. How did this sneak up on you moron.

Anonymous

You really should take care of your cobbwebb problem. You might be able to think a bit more clear. See "RE RE dont blame the Dem congress" for more help in this matter.

You can rant all you want about Dem values this year. We aren't going to fall for your fake manipulations. We just want you gone; enough of this administration.

Matt, Matt, Matt, you are shooting at the wrong target. Giving Baxter the business about the Murman report gives credibility to the report. That report has no credibility.

This is a city law problem, not a county problem. Look to Miegs street for the real culpit.

The recipe for creating all these problems is simple. Start with a 10 year review of the city law department budget. Vigorously add too many legal problems to count. Let simmer and then top with a big helping of Nuessegate. Mix in a healthy dose of contractual services, two assistants, $106,000. Add a pinch of small city with 20% less people living in it, cover with 7 dwarfs for 4 years, and chill. Serve in an enviornment of fear.

Matt my friend, you were on the
trail for awhile, but you have strayed from the scent. Keep fighting the good fight, but get back on the trail.

TO: RE RE dont blame the dem congress post on Aug 4, 2008 4:54 PM:

First off, I will not resort to the lame name calling that you do...I just refuse to stoop to that low level.

Secondly, the reason gas prices have dropped so little is because of supply and demand; people are not using as much as a month ago (cutting back on their travels, etc). NOT because the democratic congress did anything about it...because they haven't.

Thirdly, if we were to drill here in the U.S. (off shore in the Atlantic & Pacific, and in Anware) gas prices would drop much further and we would not have to rely on our enemies in Venezuala and the Middle East for oil. After all, why should we pay our enemies for energy when we have access to it here in our own country.

Fourthly, we should seek new ways to produce energy (solar, wind, hydrogen, etc.) while we are drilling in the U.S. Drilling here is just to buy us time and to keep us from buying oil from our enemies.

And finally, this did not sneak up on me. I've seen this coming for more than 10 years, and unless we start drilling here, it will get worse.

Again, the dems in congress have done NOTHING in the 2 years they have had controll of congress. What happened to all those promises of change they made when they ran for office? Whatever happened to that?

Anonymous

I am an independent and I have watched this Congress completely ruin everything for the people. It is the shrew Nancy Pelosi that is holding up bills that would help. It is time to get rid of her and Reid. If a democrat is voted as president then we need a republican house to balance it out and not allow the president to just run away with his pandering rules. Drilling within our own boundries is the right approach, but will take at least 7 years before anything can reach the public. The gas prices are not completely controlled by supply and demand. It is the speculators that have driven up the cost of oil. Since Congress has started to investigate these speculators you have seen the price of oil drop dramatically. The need is still out there, if not from us then other countries, so why sell to us at a lower price then other countries. Speculators buy options on millions of barrels of oil and hold it until the price goes up and then sells it. This is what has been driving up the price of oil not supply and demand. It is true that the dems have hurt the American people more then any other party has in the past. All the promises made by this idiot Pelosi were just a bunch of lies. She has ruined it for another woman to lead congress in the future. Pelosi, Reid, and Kennedy will lead us all down the path of a third world country unless they are removed. How about illegal immigration, they want amnesty for all of them, the reps are the ones trying to stop them. They do not want to drill off shore, the reps do. They want to allow Mexican trucks free access to all our highways, the reps do not. The list goes on and on. When are the people of this country going to wake up and vote these idiots out of office.

To: Nightstalker post on Aug 5, 2008 9:20 AM:

Thanks for the addition of the speculators and how they drive up the cost of oil. I had forgotten about that. But as "dont blame the dem congress (DBDC)" can see, congress had NOTHING to do with the small drop in gas prices whether it was supply and demand, or the speculators.

I would like to correct you in one area. I heard an oil platform worker who was on one of the talking head shows that said that once they got the order to drill (the day congress approved it), it would take roughly 2 years before Americans would benefit from lower gas prices. Not 10, 7 or even 5 years as many of the liberals would have you believe. Just 2 years! ! Soooo, why doesn't Congress approve this? Because the liberal Dems want to see our country in the crapper. They do not want to see the U. S. A. be a positive and respected country. They would rather see our enemies have controll over us, U.S.

re night stalker post on Aug 5, 2008 1:10 PM also made an excellent point with the low approval rating of this democratic congress.

Lets see what DBDC has to say about these points since they think the democratic congress has done such wonderful things in the past 2 years...and do it without the low level name calling...which many liberals resort to when they can't come up with a good explanation.

I would like to point out that I am a life-long democrate. I have NEVER and will NEVER vote party line. I have ALWAYS voted for who is the best candidate, and I'm sorry to say the past 15-20 years it has been more Republicans that I have voted for.

The Democratic Party started to go down the crapper in the late 60's and has increased their liberal stance ever since. They no longer stand for the American People, rather what they want for America. The Democrates use to listen to the people because they thought that the people could think for themselves. Now, they think that the American People are incapable of thinking for themselves and that they alone should make policy, rules, and laws.

That is the BIG difference between the "Old Democrates," and the "New (progressive/liberal) Democrates." Many of the old dems have either swithched to the Republican party or have become Independent. I am thinking of doing the same.

Anonymous

Very interesting and astute points that you make. Great to see some thought put into your comments. I agree, vote for the best candidate for the position. I too used to think the Dems represented the common man, the average WORKING American, BUT they have become the entitlers, seeming to try to buy voters with their giveaway programs.

Anonymous

The democrates have become soooo liberal, that they are no longer liberal, but socialist / communist. They are no longer the Democratic Party, but rather the Socialist Party.

Just like another poster stated that they want everything to be equal for everyone so that the rich and the middle class would have to give up their money for the poor. That's what Obama wants to do. He isn't a Democrate, he's a Socialist and if that's the best that the Democrats can put forward for a Presidential Candidate, that just proves that the Dems have become Socialists!

If you want a government like the old USSR, then vote for Obama!

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on
a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.
I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe discussing Christ in our schools is offensive but atheism, Islam, Buddhism, Occultism & any other religion is OK because these religions are peaceful & Christians are warlike.
I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, when they come over here
I don't want to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.
I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

So since you like to self proclaim that you are a good person, is it safe to assume that you will be paying the county back the $179,000 you owe the taxpayers that you and the Murrat thought we wouldn't find out about?
Hopefully in the up coming trial, we can dwell into his past and examine his present works along with a hair follicle drug test. Then we can put Shawn, and maybe your sister on the stand and find out if the stories that have been told are a farce or not. Then get testimony from Elesbeth, and Krista Harris.
One more thing, I am having a difficult time with you saying QUOTE:(As far as Kevin goes,He was charged with carrying out the wishes of his parents.): If this being the case how do you explain Kevin modifying the Murmon report. Don't you think if he thought he could get away with that he might in fact have done something similar on the family will? Hopefully there will be a judge that isn't in his back pocket or affiliated with any other GOBS here and finally put the issue to bed, or should I say OUT OF OFFICE!!

Now the house republicans are making another grand stand play to give their supporters something to crow about. Reminds me of the Terry Schaivo grand stand play -- didn't amount to a hill of beans. For some reason people who vote for republicans are real suckers for dog and pony shows. Their president ADDS to the strategic oil reserve when oil is at an all-time high, effectively increasing demand and boosting the price of oil. Dubya's people manipulate the markets the same way they manipulate their supporters. Terry Schaivo died with more brain cells left than most republican start out with.

Here are some facts about Obama taken from his own words from his books "Dreams of My Father" and "Audacity of Hope."

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attri butes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damming one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

How could anyone in their right mind want this guy as the next president of the U.S.A. ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

matt, I have to laugh at you. Normally, I have to say that I love to read what you write, however, something struck a chord with me this time. I do not defend Ferrell or Baxter, nor do I like ANY of these two GOB'S actions while in office, however, you do use your position of power as well. Look at how you slam them EACH and EVERY chance you get, lets not mention your strong views on Nuesse to boot, but is there any way that you can write an article about these two men that is not so objective? As I stated, I can't stand these two men, but it only lessons the publics view on YOU when you stoop so low!

Don't blame the democrats for all of this. Only the house is controlled by the democrats. The republicans are effectively controlling the senate. 97% of filabusters in the senate are from the republicans. This in turn is shuting down all democratic efforts.

Why is the attention placed so much on Mr. Baxter? Even criminals have a chance to clerify their statements! In order for things to check and balance themselves out, don't we want the correct information? Or would we rather want what the investigator interperted when Mr. Baxter spoke to him? I gave a statement, and yes I modified my statement. I simply wanted it to read and/or mean what I intended for it to read. I didn't write it, it was written for me after given information pertaining to the issue.

Mr. Westerhold, maybe the reason lines are crossed off, responses written in, is because you and your cloans were pushing for a conclusion to this. No time for re-writes.

It's very apparent to me Mr. Westerhold that you aren't happy with anyone but yourself! There are numerous issues you could fly the flag for in this area and beyond but you find yourself still sneaking around Kim Nuesse's door step.

Maybe you should have to testify in the hearings on your inaccuracies pertaining this matter? I for one know most of them to be far fetch and biased. Why, becaue some of us were living it every day we went to work. you simply look in from the outside and allowing Kim Nuesse to taint your view.

In my opion, I feel you're doing your self an injustice by calling out the County Prosecutor in this fasion. Wouldn't ant to be you if for some reason you ever get brought upp on charges. You might look real funny when your FRIEND Mr. Baxter throws everything but the kitchen sink your way.

I can udnerstand bringing up issues, when there are issues but in this case you're commenting on things that Mr. Bailey and/or Kim Nuesse have filled your head with.

Bottom line,it's not going to be Mr. Baxter who squirms and twists in his chair, it will be Ms. Nuesse. Although I could be wrong, since it's apparent she is a pathological liar.

Besides, the only questions she will be able to prep, prep, and prep for, will be Mr. Bailey's. Should be interesting watching her under cross, when the evidence is thrown in her pathetic little face.

Matt, try barber college, it fits you better!!!!!!!

I was a long time subscriber to this newspaper, but the past several months the so called journalistic writings of the reporters and management staff is enough to make a person cancel their newspaper and go the the Morning Journal. At least the Journal has actual articles about Sandusky, not just ramblings of reporters. How very sad that a journalist living in this city is so very against the very city in which he lives. I don't think this person (Westerhold) wanted to come to this area and work for the newspaper because the only thing he can write is negative things about the city and the people who live here. Because of his negativity, he has caused much damage to the area as well as made people attach each other in the name of journalism. How sad. How sad that the only thing he can write is how terrible this city and the people who live here are.

If I am to believe you are one of Sandusky's Finest, which I do not, but if I did, I would have to say I'm disappointed our city couldn't hire any better than you. After going through the entire chronicle on the disbarred attorney Elsebeth I would like to offer my opinion. FIRST, that woman was RAILROADED, no matter how you cut the mustard. SECOND, the legitimate outrage in this community started with HER, not Nuesse, which goes to show the MAJORITY of people in Erie County are honest, ethical and moral. THIRD, the citizens in Erie County (myself included) Cuyahoga County and Ottawa County should all bury their heads in shame for their APATHY in allowing those dirty and dishonest CROOKS to get away with the TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE that was served upon that woman---somebody that actually CARED about what those CROOKS were getting away with. THE END.

sympathy for Elsebeth you are misguided and you have not gone thru the whole chronicle of what she did to others. She's a bi-polar maniac off her meds who was a self appointed crusader for her version of the "truth" and the Register gave her a forum that she desired to spew out her venom.

BUT......May I ask the SR what happened to the story "OVH Board Disbans"?? I can't find it anywhere. It doesn't even show up in the search. Strange that the SR and Westerhold are so concerned about these kind of stories but must have gotten a call from OVH management to get rid of that story (and the blogs)...and they did! All of the hate that the SR is stirring up with these stories that are sooooo old and sickening but to he!! with the blogs on the stories about the crooked crap going on in a home for our veterans. What's up with that? Is it politics? Bias? Or the need to cause trouble for these people to try and make Nusse look better? PITIFUL!

Anonymous

" I finally found it with the word "disbands". It isn't under "OVH". I see now why it isn't easily accessible, only 16 comments..not important enough I guess. "

First, I want to apologize to the people of this forum for stooping to name calling. This is not my usual standard. I am sorry.

Second, I didn't stop thinking, just writing. I had too much work to do preparing for the start of the school year. I also know that in sharing the fact that I am a teacher will open the door to some of the vilest comments. Anyone who feels the need to comment about my profession please keep in mind that I have heard it all and you will not shock.

Third, I can not be swayed to vote for any republican this year, even though I am an Independent. I too vote for the individual and issues, and not a party. If the GOP had not moved so right of center I would likely still be voting republican. I believe in personal responsibility.

I also believe that in some cases government should lead and not pander. That government's main function is not to manipulate the population in order to just stay in power.

I met Al Gore many years ago and found him to be thoughtful, intelligent, and reflective. I voted for him and not Mr. Bush Jr. When he lost the election I was more concerned about all three branches of government being held by one party than Gore's loss.

I began to pay close attention. When the drums of war began to beat I noticed that the same statements were being made over and over and over. I saw a polarized society being formed intentionally in order to manipulate. One segment of our society was watching FOX, listening to Rush and friends, and very vocal. Patriotism was used to beat anyone that asked questions about the need for war in Iraq into submission and labeled "the liberal media".

I am an Air Force Brat. I lived through the cold war under my desk at school during drills. I watched college students take a stand that eventually demonstrated the need to end the Viet Nam conflict. I am not anti military, but my sons did not enlist to be sent to fight in an oil war. Both feel betrayed by a government that betrayed the trust of its people.

I guess what I am saying is that I am not pro Democrat, but anti Republican. I really do not care about the color of Obama's skin or the council he keeps while in church. I don't care if he never wears a flag lapel pin. I am sure that his wife is a strong personality, but not a terrorist.

I don't see the democratic party as socialist. They look more liberal only because the GOP ideology has proved itself to be unable to think or lead. Every time I try to discuss issues with a republican all I get is canned statements. It sounds like a broken record--if you know what that is. Issues are more complicated than canned, cut-and-paste demagoguery. Thank you for discussing the oil issue with some intelligence.

Anonymous

You are absolutely correct. I have read this newspaper for over 40 years and I am appalled at what it has become. I have begun subscribing to the Morning Journal, where at least I can get unbiased reporting on the Nuesse situation, etc. (And the Journal still has a full slate of good comics, which the Register has taken away from us over the past year.) In addition, the combative, nasty tone these Register online comment sections have taken on is atrocious and divisive and does a great disservice to the community. Yet the Register refuses to do anything about the continuous abuse of these comment sections. I'm sure they just love all the mean-spirited, hateful, sexist, racist, cruel, nasty comments they allow people to post on here. They allow it because it increases interest in their website. That's all they care about.

Anonymous

I was chastised once on this forum for name-calling, so I won't. I do want you to know that you are entitled to all of the opinions that you post. I have a neighbor who writes this type of rubbish on a hand-painted sign in his front yard. You must both belong to the I Love America and Hate Anyone Different From Me Club.

I am different, so you must hate me enough to want me to give my country to you--not happening. I just don't believe that a Democrat will break down my front door and take my guns. I know that I have the right to arm myself and that that right is guaranteed by the Constitution in order to keep my government from tyranny. I believe in God AND science. I think that our schools have enough to teach without taking the place of my church. I pay more in taxes than you likely make, and I pay more in taxes now than I did eight years ago--local, state, tolls, car plates, sales, etc. Stop and think about your total tax bill and not Washington hype.

You sure spew a lot of hatred for a person who voted for the political party that has been running our county for years. You should be pretty happy about the results. Whats that? You mean they didn't put Bibles and prayer in schools, make abortions illegal, euthanize all gay people, and truck everyone that sounds like they have a Latino accent over the southern border? I guess they just weren't American enough.

Anonymous

Very well said. Thank You!

It will be up to Nuesse and her attorney to prove the accusations made against her are FALSE but first the ACCUSERS have to show evidence that they are TRUE. What EXACTLY are the accusations, anyway? I don't believe this has ever been told.

Anonymous

I agree that your neighbor might be a little of an extremist, but on the other hand, maybe, just maybe he isn't. You say you are different, what does that mean? Do you have 2 heads, 4 arms, or illegal immigrant, or were you born here with parents from another country? Just guessing from what you wrote, I'm going with the latter. Maybe there is something you do in your daily activity that makes him angry with you, such as speaking to him in your native tongue.
I'm relatively sure from the way you have written your reply and have been called down for childish name calling and comparing your tax bracket without knowing the party you are writing to that we have in fact crossed paths here on the blogs before. I will tell you this , just recently another illegal was given a lethal injection in Texas. Even the white house tried to stop it, but supreme court said green light and go ahead. You probably think that was a cruel and unjust punishment, but if you spoke to the parents of the two girls that were 11 and 13 if I remember correctly were raped, stabbed and left dead in a field. There were 5 illegal's involved and they had been deported before, but continue to come here. Three have been executed already that were involved and the others are awaiting their turn on the last ride on the gurney. When the father was interviewed , he stated that he can hardly wait until the next low life has his turn on the table that was responsible. As you can see all the diversity in the world won't change things in this century. One more thing, I think it rather obtuse and brash for you to make the statement that you pay more in taxes than I actually make a year, but then again insecurities always surface when backed into a corner. I will tell you this my property taxes are now at $4,752.63 a year. If your neighbor is putting home made hand painted signs in his yard I'm almost positive you have your tax statement in total reverse with me.

I don't believe Mr. Baxter will be squirming. Last time I checked, he is still the prosecutor and Tim & Kim are both FORMER Police Chief's.

Anonymous

whatever happened to unbiased reporting? The obvious glee with which the reporter looks forward to Baxter "squirming" makes it quite apparent that he's unable to report on this situation objectively. The media in general these days seems to have forgotten what journalism is all about. Granted, this piece is an editorial, but to go from this type of editorial and then try to recapture credibility as an unbiased reporter (not that I thought that in the first place) is humanly impossible. How sad that the media has fallen to new lows everywhere you look.

I never said I don't subscribe to the SR. I do. I just stated that I have also begun subscribing to the Journal because I feel the SR has made some changes that I don't like, and has changed into a newspaper that relies on sensationalism and biased reporting. I keep hoping to see some glimmer of hope that the Register will change, but so far it just gets worse.

I've read all the blogs and find it curious that the pro-republican people truly believe that suddenly this country will have some money problems if the Democrats get in. Apparently you missed the article about the Erie County Care facility that needs a levy to stay in business. Medicaid has frozen it's payments to care facilities. Medicaid and Medicare are suffering so our elderly must suffer. Meanwhile, how many billions have we GIVEN to Iraq? This is a country which could easily support themselves with their oil reserves, but we continue to GIVE them whatever it takes. I don't know what planet your from, but if you think what we've had the last eight years is good, I am scared to think about what you expect in the future to top it.

where the Editor in Chief of the SR stands regarding this topic! At least HE'S BEEN HONEST! With the hearing NOW POST-PONED until September (why am I not the least bit surprised), of course to get LEGIT STATEMENTS from over 2 dozen individuals involved, of which they should of had in the beginning for that so-called Murman Report they used to base their decision to FIRE THE POLICE CHIEF......Seems to me the powers that be, city-wise, have a problem with those that just don't see eye to eye with them and are more than willing to stand TOE-TO-TOE. We've seen how quickly the ministers BACKED-OFF!

WHY I AM VOTING

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, when they come over here I don't want to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse. "

Why I am voting Republican:

I'm voting Republican because I believe the government will spend even more of my money on the Iraqis so they may experience the American Dream.

I'm voting Republican because I believe the sky is the limit for oil companies and their CEO's.

I'm voting Republican because freedom of speech is fine as long as no one bad mouths the war, because that, of course, would mean you are unpatriotic.

I'm voting Republican because I believe as long as we can borrow money from China to give to our people as 'stimulus checks', the more money we can scrape up to send to Iraq.

I'm voting Republican because I won't be deceived by extreme weather changes, flooding, or anything else that might support global warming.

I'm voting Republican because the 'Right to Life' slogan only pertains to unborn children and not the innocents on death row, because of our infallible justice system.

I'm voting Republican because, as a long time business owner who can barely get through quarterly taxes let alone end of the year taxes, I cannot be disappointed in yet another Republican run.

I'm voting Republican because I can't see having my constitutional rights upheld (phone taps, companies in business, who provide those taps, being protected, and a miriad of other protective measures) because of those who MAY have a different agenda. Big brother knows best.

I'm voting Republican because I believe when the terriorists finally break through our inpenetratable borders, we'll be ready with our machine guns in hand.

I'm voting Republican because I believe in the rights of all people, regardless of race, religion or sexual preference. Wait a minute. Is that Republican? Oops.

First, you should know that I am WASP--3rd generation American Scott. Second, my tax bracket presumption was made from county record generalizations.

I should have been more direct in my comment. I am different because I should be voting Republican based on my race, income, profession and the fact that I come from a military family. Again this is based on historical generalizations.

I will be voting for Democrats this fall, or more specifically, anybody who is not a Republican. This too is different for me. I usually vote as an Independent--issues.

I dislike the divisiveness associated with Republican candidates. Issues are starting to pop on various state ballots related to same-sex marriage, abortion, guns, and affirmative action. These are put on the ballot only to get conservatives to vote and think about candidates as being "different".

My neighbor does not write his yard signs directed at me. He is angry with the world. I just happen to live near him. He is only one part of the FOX vocal group that sings to the choir. This makes him believe that people WANT to hear his message and that "everyone" agrees with what he has to say. What makes me different is that I believe that he has the right to post his signs. A very democratic belief. I just think it makes him seem silly and clutters up my neighborhood.

To Really:
Thank you. My point exactly. How could the Democrats do any worse job.

To Why I am Voting Democrat/Republican:
You will likely get your wish. I am pessimistic about the American people voting for a black man. We are a sorry lot. Be prepared to walk to talk. So far our countries problems have only worsened with Republicans in power. Will you be accountable? Will you tell your grandchildren that when given the opportunity to change the direction we were headed in you chose to vote for the white guy?

To horse lovers everywhere:
Have at it. You could even put a sign in your front yard--"Just Married".

To anyone voting Republican this fall:
Haven't you had enough? What will it take? A war with Iran? Your taxes going up--we eventually will need to pay for the current wars? I really want to know.

TO: Rere RE Yes Im a bad American post on Aug 11, 2008 9:26 AM:

The deomcrates have the power in the House & Senate. So in 2 years time, they have done nothing.

Obama even said in a speech about a month ago that his opinion was that gas prices should rise to this level. Apparently he has no idea what higher energy costs will do to the American economy. He likes socialist economics (the way the USSR was - take from those that have and give to those that have little - you see how well that worked in Russia). His plans for America has a 50 billion dollar price tag. And where do you suppose that money will come from? From you & I and are wallets in more taxes.

He is too inexperienced AND a socalist.

I'm not for McCain either, however, I do think he is the lesser of 2 evils.

It is sort of revealing that you assumed that I was not an english-speaking "other".

As far as the death penalty goes, I think I would prefer to keep felons proved to kill in jail forever. There have been too many people proved not guilty through after-the-trail DNA testing. The cost($) of the death penalty is higher than life without parole. If I were non-white and arrested in Texas I think I would be worried. Again this is a change for me. I believed that the death penalty was just until reading about people being put to death and then later finding that they were not guilty of the crime. One wrongful death is too many. I don't think we can take the chance. We are human and fallible, but death is forever.

As far as the illegal immigrants problem goes, I'm thinking that the Republicans own the problem. Follow the money and political polls. The money says that cheap labor is good for business. Political polls urged the Republicans to crack down.

It appears Sandusky and Erie County are slowly dying. The only sign of growth is Perkins Twp. Who is going to challenge these incumbents? Who? Not only do you have to fight the status quo you have to fight to improve the GROWTH of Erie County. How is anyone going to change the flight from Erie County and still have to fight in politics? It is a losing battle. Democrats want higher taxes and people want things for free. Well, the answer by the taxpayers (the people) is "screw you" we are sick of it and we are moving. To: For Any candidate except Republican post on Aug 11, 2008 9:59 AM:

Obama is a socialist because of his policy and stance on government and the economy. He has said several times that those that have much should pay higher taxes to support his planned governement programs and that they should give their money for government programs to support the poor. That is socialism - that is how the USSR (a socialist country) did things for years and look where it got them.

A better way to do it is to let private citizens donate how much they want to who they want (social organizations) to help the poor. Less government is ALWAYS better! ! ! More government means higher taxes and more government spending! Let's get the private citizens to help instead of more government.

RE To the voters of Erie County: I agree 1,000 % ! ! ! I will NOT vote for any incumbent this year who has not done their jobs! Tom Ferrel has failed us and Barb Johnson has failed us just to name a few of the county seats.

Dennis Murray can't even be a good City Commissioner for Sandusky. How would you expect him to be a good State Rep.? ?

Those I have done my homework on. I will do my homework on the others (county, state, and Federal). I won't stand for these wacko politicians who do one thing and say another. If they don't do a good job and don't live up to their promise - OUT THEY GO! ! We as voters have that power...IF AND ONLY IF the voters do their homework BEFORE election day. How sad that most people don't think it's important to do their homework and just would rather complain. They are indeed LAZY CITIZENS who have absolutely no room to complain! ! ! !

I urge EVERYONE to do your homework on all candidates! Their are good and bad candidates in ALL PARTIES (Dems, Repubs, and Indies). Remember, vote for the BEST CANDIDATE - NEVER EVER vote party line! It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY as a U. S. Citizen to do so! ! ! !

The following is the definition of socialism...

Socialism: An economic system in which the basic means of production are primarily owned and controlled collectively, usually by government under some system of central planning.

In this country we understand that taxes pay for services that we all enjoy-implicitly and explicitly.

Example: I may not have kids in the local school district, so may not enjoy direct results. Indirectly the health of the school district affects my home value and macro economics. I use the roads, bridges and state and local government agencies nearly daily.

The argument that government should be smaller is subjective, at best. I agree that when government is run by people who are inept we all suffer and its easy to blame government, rather than make individuals accountable. Case in point: Browny in New Orleans during the Katrina hurricane. Clearly the need for government intervention was needed, but the people in charge was inept. It is common to want a smaller Republican government, because they do it badly. I have never heard of a senior getting a social security check late. Done right, government does some thinks well. That's were oversight and journalism comes in.

Could you please explain exactly what poor people should do. I once took a class while in college that took a hard look at poverty. I'm embarrassed to say that I made a fool of myself. I stated that if a person couldn't afford to have kids, that they shouldn't. I was thinking about my tax bill and all the money I felt compelled to pay for welfare moms. That was a big thing back then.

A student listened to my talking points--the same type you point out, and asked why the kids should pay for the sin of the parent. Children should go hungry, lack education and health care? They had a good point.

The problem I have with the current system is that our highest income citizens believe that the poor are the responsibility of the middle class. Check out where most very rich park their donation (tax deductions). You will find that overwhelmingly it goes to places like orchestra, ballots, art work in museums, and the like.

Gunman Kills State Democratic Chairman

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Aug. 14) -- Police and neighbors are struggling to explain why a man described as a loner drove more than 30 miles to Arkansas' Democratic Party headquarters and fatally shot its chairman hours after getting fired from his job.
Police said Timothy Dale Johnson, 50, of Searcy, barged into Bill Gwatney's office on Wednesday and shot him multiple times. There were no signs that Gwatney and Johnson, who was later shot dead by officers, knew each other.
Shooting at Democratic Party OfficeDanny Johnston, APA man walked into the Arkansas Democratic Party's headquarters in Little Rock on Wednesday and shot the party chairman several times, police said. Chairman Bill Gwatney died at an area hospital. The suspect fled in a pickup truck but died after being shot during a 30-mile chase.

A Target retail store in Conway had fired Johnson early Wednesday because he had written graffiti on a wall, police said. Before noon, Johnson was in Gwatney's office in Little Rock with a handgun.
"He said he was interested in volunteering, but that was obviously a lie," said Sam Higginbotham, a 17-year-old volunteer at the party's headquarters.
After the shooting, Johnson sped away in a truck, stopped seven blocks away at the Arkansas State Baptist Convention and pointed a gun at the building's manager, police said. When asked what was wrong, the gunman said "I lost my job," according to Dan Jordan, the church group's business manager.
Officers chased the suspect to Sheridan, 30 miles south of Little Rock. After avoiding spike strips and a roadblock, the suspect emerged from his truck and began shooting at deputies and state troopers, who returned fire. Johnson later died at a hospital. Police found two guns in the truck.
Little Rock police Lt. Terry Hastings didn't say what the men discussed after Johnson entered Gwatney's office but said it was not a heated exchange.
"They introduced themselves, and at that time he pulled out a handgun and shot Chairman Gwatney several times," he said.
Police said they could find no criminal record for Johnson. "If he's got a record, it's minor," Hastings said.
Because of his position in the state party, Gwatney was a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention this month in Denver. He declared his support for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton after the Arkansas primary in February but endorsed Barack Obama after Clinton dropped out of the presidential race.
Clinton and her husband, former President and former Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton, issued a statement calling Gwatney "not only a strong chairman of Arkansas' Democratic Party, but ... also a cherished friend and confidante."
Obama said: "Michelle and I are heartbroken to hear about the tragic loss of Chairman Bill Gwatney. We're praying for his family and friends and all who worked with him and loved him."
Johnson lived alone and had never been married, said Helen Mowrer, who lived next door to the gunman. Mowrer said both of Johnson's parents had lived at the house, but they died in the past 10 years.
Mowrer said Johnson kept to himself. "I never felt really comfortable with him," Mowrer said. "He was just kind of different."
Another neighbor said investigators visited her home Wednesday to talk about the suspect. Loretta Jones said her only contact with Johnson had been the three or four times she complained to him about his dog.
"It makes you wonder what got into somebody to do something so horrible," Jones said.
According to Conway police spokeswoman Sharen Carter, Target fired Johnson before 8 a.m. Wednesday because he had written on a wall. A manager had called police because of the graffiti but the wall had already been cleaned and Johnson had left by the time officers arrived.
Minnesota-based Target Corp. did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
The state Capitol was locked down for about an hour until police got word the shooter had been captured, Arkansas State Capitol police Sgt. Charlie Brice said.
Democratic and Republican party officials said their offices would remain closed until Monday. A wreath featuring an elephant and donkey figures stood outside the Democratic headquarters Wednesday evening.
"Bill Gwatney was our friend, our party's leader, and so many times our party's conscience," the party said in a statement. "Our state and our party are better for all that Bill Gwatney has done."
Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat who served with Gwatney in the state Senate, joined a vigil at University Hospital after what he called a "shocking and senseless attack."
Gwatney was Beebe's finance chairman during the 2006 campaign, when Democrats swept all seven statewide offices.
"Arkansas has lost a great son, and I have lost a great friend," Beebe said. "There is deep pain in Arkansas tonight because of the sheer number of people who knew, respected and loved Bill Gwatney."
Karen Ray, executive director of the Republican Party of Arkansas, sent her workers home after the shooting "out of an abundance of caution."
"He was an admirable Arkansan and gave so much to this state and his party," GOP chairman Dennis Milligan said.

Want to bet that what the shooter wrote on the wall at Target was racial in nature?

The only one who is squirming is Matt Westerhold. He is squirming due to all the cancellations of SR subscriptions. Hit him where it hurts, in the wallet. He is also loosing a lot of reporters. The employees say that the work environment there is poor at best. Matt, hit the road and spread your poison elsewhere.

OK GUYS- My last comment was ERASED. Listen I submitted explicit details of the night of events regarding the shooting that accused McDonald and Turner of Murder –

So hear it comes again, JUST WATCH HOW QUICKLY THIS WILL BE ERASED, right before your eyes.... I think I'm on to something good.

- The night of the shooting Baxter accused three guys because they were all seen at the club together. While at the club caston is involved in an argument with jerome caffey over who can bench press the most weights.

- That very night, mcdonald drove both turner and caston to the club picking them up in his white car. Please note that caston and turner both were picked up at turner's home and mcdonald was driving his own vehicle, not riding with caston as Baxter has indicated. .

- After the club closes, caston was still very angry and intoxicated as he was ranting and raving about seeking revenge against caffey. You should all know that this was an argument with Caston and Caffey only. McDonald, once again, gave turner and caston a ride home from the club and before they reached their final destinations they stopped at the shell gas station, it was there that McDonald purchased party mixers and condoms for his evening with Ms. Harris. Ms. Harris had purchased a hotel in her name at the motel on Cleveland avenue and it was a mutual agreement that they would meet immediately after mcdonalds night at the club.

- It has been noted that while at the gas station, caston was observed by several people as to have been extremely intoxicated and angry, he was so out of control that he asked terry mcdonald if he had a gun to go kill caffey. Mcdonald had planned an intimate evening with ms harris and he was not entertaining caston with his ill thoughts. Besides, caston never hung out with mcdonald this was turner's friend. Turner stated that know one paid caston any attention because he always behaved in that fashion especially when he was drunk. Turner also admitted that caston would always want his gun and he would often give it to him as caston was only talking when he was drunk.

- As they left the shell gas station it was then that mcdonald dropped caston and turner off at turners and mcdonald proceeded to move on with his night meeting ms harris at the motel on Cleveland Aven._THIS WAS WHERE MCDONALD WAS AND IS INNOCENT FOLKS…… Meanwhile, turner at his home with caston, turned over a gun to caston and caston left the home of turner and walked home which was right down the street from his home with the gun, retrieving the keys from his girlfriends driving her red caviler.

- Caston's destination alone and mission to seek revenge was to the home of caffey. It was then during a stop-by that he turned out his head lights and opened fired 32 rounds of ammunition into the home of caffey. You should also know that during this gun sfire shoot out, Mr. caffey was shooting back as officers confiscated a smoking gun in the dryer. This is critical also, emergency room dr's revealed that the bullet wound that struck ms. Johnson came from the direction of the house and not the street. Baxter has all this information but do you really think he will tell the Johnson family this information or the newspaper . HECK KNOW

- Now get this, Turner admits that he heard the shots ring out, as caffeys home was in within range that he could you can hear the gun fire. Turner immediately knew that caston followed through with what he was planning to do, so he ran down to castons home, no car, and no caston. Turner admits that he returned back to his home pacing the floor worried sick as to what caston had done. All he could think about is how stupid he was to have given him his gun.

- Turner admits that later, caston is home and turner runs over to castons, only to find caston with his brother terry it was then that caston informed he shot up the home of jerome caffey and was instructed to rinse his hands in bleach by terry and that both got rid of the murder weapon throwing it lake erie. It was also reported that caston stated the police would never recover the gun because they threw the gun in lake erie. We all know that Lake Erie has no bottom.

_ So folks perfect plan for Baxter to set mcdonald up. Boy was he on to something; he wanted him for drugs that never happened, by gosh was he going to pin this murder on him. He's a mess that Baxter. SO READ BETWEEN THE LINES- mcdonald was framed he was no where near crime he was simply in a motel with ms harris having himself one heck of a good time. I know he wishes he would have been home with his wife and kids you think?

YOU FIGURE THE REST,,,,, please tell me if i should provide more information.

- that fact that the police did not know what kind of car was used in the shooting until baxter interviewed caston and caston said that there were 3000 cavilers , baxter stated himself caston was a dummy because it was caston who gave up the goods about the car that was used. Baxter never asked what car was used, caston did great work to help the investigation. Oh I forget caston was simply too drunk and couldn’t remember yeah right ! Baxter then order's the police to search the red caviler and guess what people they found three shell casings, but didn't bother to dust for finger prints placing, mcdonald and turner in the car. Caston also mentioned that he was so drunk he couldn't remember until baxter got in his ear about mcdonald and how badly he wanted him. So every time you erase my post look for me to keep telling this story.

I'm hear to haunt you - happy Halloween.
