Stahl: Best Good Old Boy

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

City commissioner Craig Stahl was almost breathless when he read a letter to commission Monday from Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter refuting the importance of another letter Baxter sent last week to Don Icsman and Matt Kline that stated the Murman report contained factual inaccuracies.

The way Stahl embraced Baxter's denial of his earlier admission that Murman got the "details" wrong was so sweet. Kevin must have taken all weekend to figure out how to word that second letter. Baxter had just finished writing it a half-hour before the commission meeting, Craig said. And Craig was just so excited to be the chosen messenger. He read it as if it were a letter from the Pope.

"Congratulations on being Kevin's water boy," I told Stahl after the public meeting ended.

"Maybe I am being his water boy," Stahl responded after some additional chiding.

Yeah Craig, that's exactly what you were when you delivered Baxter's second "cover your (behind)" CYA letter in less that a week.

It's just too bad you didn't have any time to address the Darden report, which was actually researched and thoughtful. While you encourage and celebrate Baxter's attempts to manipulate the process for Party and power, Darden actually did the work you should be doing: Digging for the truth.

But you were too busy trying to be the best Good Old Boy you could be to actually pay attention to "details."

perkins has been known as the graveyard of coaches for as long as it has existed. nothing ever changes.

maddog

What is huron good at besides football? What is smcc good at besides wrestling?

Anonymous

It all starts with the 8th grade wanna be Perkins coach!
Heck, he would run up to the varsity coaches and ask them about "plays" for the 8th graders, cause he didn't know what he was doing! He talks a good game, but that's all that it is, he likes to "act" and have conversation with people to make himself feel important around people.
Perkins athletic staff needs to be more selective when choosing coaches.
Ask him where he "played" football at? And how many years he play?

Just for your in fromation brausch did not get rid of burrows. It was shanes CHOICE one that should not be discussed on here . Get your facts STRAIGHT .Have you followed what is going on THIS year ? That might give you a clue as to why he left.

Anonymous

re burrows oct 4, 2007 @ 5:39 am/Yep, you are right, everyone needs to reassess a few of the coaches and start with the jr hi coach.
take a look at what is going on at the cop shop, he works there, that place is mess cause he doesn't know what he's doin.
same with coaching talks, talk, talks, all bs.

TT

Can't believe we're drawing a line in the sand over a high school football game. We were always rivals, but never, I thought, bitter enemies like we've become here. Now we're bringing up Shane Burrows and Brausch's kid and God-knows-what-else. Remeber, there'll be another one next year, just like every year.

Remember that the sports are for the kids to enjoy and 95% of them will not be in sports after high school,so all you parents trying to live your life again through your kids just set back and enjoy what your kids are doing and keep your mouths shut.I have alot of grand children in sports and all my kids played sports, and all of them enjoyed or enjoy playing sports, but never do I put myself in the picture.Just set back and enjoy.

Anonymous

I can agree with you on that point. He only knows how to talk. He played very little football in high school

Anonymous

You have to play football before you can coach fball. Stick to your day job as a cop. This is another hire of a yes person braush hired.

Anonymous

I heard that McClung is or is going to coach football? What? Oh yea,he can't get too far away from his side kick Mathless/coachless/copless,where you see one you see the other one.I guess it takes two to cover up those tracks. If this is true, they will have two coaches that know nothing!!Mathless and McClueless what a wining pair.RIGHT!

Anonymous

Now you know there's no such rumor going around. You had to make it up here. It's not all that funny.

Anonymous

Hey Bucierri, you snot clobbered Rock out of town and got you're way with a new yes-man fball coach. Now the natives are restless. Way to leave your thumb print on the once proud community.

...about h.s. sports? They're for fun. I sit in the stands and hear parents talking about their kids 'getting looks' from major schools. It's such a joke. The parents take it so seriously, openly contemptuous of teachers and laycoaches who coach these 'future D 1 prospects' for peanuts. Stop trying to live off your kid's athletic achievements. Stop blaming your kids' lack of skills on anything else but their genes. Now, all of that being said, I think Timmy O. would be a great coach. He knows the game, is smart, cool, etc.

Anonymous

Brausch can't even control that little piece of s**t kid of his (the young one not the high schooler). How in the world would you expect him to control an entire hs football team?

Anonymous

Whoa guys, we're talking about kids sports here. Shouldn't every school be looking for a coach that teaches the boys integrity and class? At least Notestine has that. Let them worry about records and trophys when they're in the pros.

Anonymous

Exactly. Let them have fun. There were maybe a TOTAL of 3 kids at that game who might play at the next level, D-III, probably. None of them will get a wiff of 'the league'. Everyone needs to simmer down and put all of this into perspective.

Anonymous

Nice attack on the coach's child! You're a real bad man, especially behind the cloak of anonymity. Coward!

re: Is It True Oct 4, 11:14 AM. We can only hope that it isn't true!
Again, I feel very strongly that before someone can be a "coach" they should have played the game.
In checking his credentials I can't find anything that would qualify Mathless to be a coach!

Wow looks like we have a bunch of adults acting likes kids on here. Shane Burrows never whined cried nor is a sore loser. After that track meet i sat right next to him and that funny looking reporter for the register who interviewed him put about 20% of what he really said into the column, That was hurons best team ever and perkins worst team ever and we barely lost whats that got to say about your tigers..... Enough of slamming a braushes 6 yr old son you prolly have them to and they all acted the same way. I dunno i am not giving out my opinion on here because to me its seems like most of you are talking out of your butts and not out of ur mouths. You all know who i am and if you dont im brett bird, grow some down their and throw your name in where you type is u have the guts, i am not ashamed of what i write maybe you are and thats why none or atleast the idiots on here dont.

Anonymous

We can out drink any Butt Pirate any day! Go Panthers!

Anonymous

Wow, grow a pair? How about grow a brain. Judging by your grammar perhaps you should have worried more about school and less about the gridiron. Some of the things I've heard come out of that 6 year old's mouth is ridiculous, not to mention he's a hellion. That screams of poor parenting, just the facts.

Anonymous

Way to show class. You represent your old school saying this. Coach notestine i say thank you for teaching discipline and how to live life. You are a true winner .Leave the other messs South of PERKINS AVE!

Anonymous

Call the Sandusky Register and ask to hear the tape they have on Burrows. I'm sure that lies too, huh? No I believe a recording is enough evidence, don't you?

Anonymous

Enough already about burrows . THIS is about a fbcoach who plays his son over jr and srs and has no discipline what so ever . Three years to BUILD a program . How about 3 years to tear a PROGRAM AND A community apart.

Anonymous

maybe we could get Mark Hollars to come back to PHS

Anonymous

These blogs do nothing but tear down the coaches and kids. Hasn't anyone ever heard that sometimes it's better to leave things left unsaid. What is this blog going to accomplish? I think this sight does not represent Perkins or it's students very well. I can tell you it is causing alot of grief for the Perkins Football Team. Perkins Football team needs to work on being a team and making the best of the remainder of the season. I feel for the Seniors. This is the last year for them and it can't be replayed for them. Most of these kids have played since 6th grade, coaches and kids have the power to make the rest of the season better for these Seniors.

as King of Erie county I hearby decree...SMCC and Perkins both still suck!

king

Are you king baer? You suck too you sandupmy fool!IN my book perkins got what THEY deserve a self serving coach who knows nothing of the school ,its history,or football program. Go back down south. Why did you come here again? Did you get run out of lebanon the same way ? DID you play your son who was a 6th grader on varsity ?

Anonymous

Mark hollars the same GUY who won 3 games as head coach ? Is this a joke ? Ha ha !

As parents (not grandparents yet), we've watched many WINS as well as LOSSES! We've sat in the stands for FB for the last 10 years, and have at times, been appalled by comments made by some of the parents of fellow teammates as well as FAIRWEATHER FANS! To say that this is just h.s. sports and that it's just for fun, trivializes the goals that some of these athletes set for themselves as well as thier whole team. I remember when our oldest sons' FB team said they would be the first State Champs for Perkins! Well it happened that year, l999! Our son was only in the 8th. grade. What was witnessed was the FACT that it's possible! Boy, was that a FUN RIDE! One done with a hell of alotta PRIDE! I believe we have 3 asst. coaches that played on that Championship Team! I doubt very much they were thinking it wasn't all that important?! As a parent of an athlete, who spent 6 days a week training, practicing, competeing, etc., there are times you may NEED to speak up! We don't live THROUGH our child, but at this point in time, we do live FOR THEM! We're the ones (along w/a selcet few others) handling the damage control, when those hopes have been brought to an ABRUPT END! Sorry if feelings get hurt, but sometimes we parents have good reason as well as a right! My perspective on this is as such.. When it comes to the psychological, emotional and physical treatement of our child, the day I sit back, shut my mouth and go w/the flow, is the day I DIE! Good Luck Pirates, BEAT THE CHARGERS! You know you can do it!
