Stahl: Best Good Old Boy

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

City commissioner Craig Stahl was almost breathless when he read a letter to commission Monday from Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter refuting the importance of another letter Baxter sent last week to Don Icsman and Matt Kline that stated the Murman report contained factual inaccuracies.

The way Stahl embraced Baxter's denial of his earlier admission that Murman got the "details" wrong was so sweet. Kevin must have taken all weekend to figure out how to word that second letter. Baxter had just finished writing it a half-hour before the commission meeting, Craig said. And Craig was just so excited to be the chosen messenger. He read it as if it were a letter from the Pope.

"Congratulations on being Kevin's water boy," I told Stahl after the public meeting ended.

"Maybe I am being his water boy," Stahl responded after some additional chiding.

Yeah Craig, that's exactly what you were when you delivered Baxter's second "cover your (behind)" CYA letter in less that a week.

It's just too bad you didn't have any time to address the Darden report, which was actually researched and thoughtful. While you encourage and celebrate Baxter's attempts to manipulate the process for Party and power, Darden actually did the work you should be doing: Digging for the truth.

But you were too busy trying to be the best Good Old Boy you could be to actually pay attention to "details."

Yes thankyou amy and the rest of the fall sports athletes.

facts

Agreed. The firing of Rock Farlow was just one of MANY mistakes made by the old administration aka Sheri Buccerri.

Anonymous

Thank YOU Chapman and Baxter FOR FIRING ROCK . Hey did YOU notice both their kids played for Brausch.CHAPMAN HAD AN AGENDA TO FIRE ROCK AMONG OTHER THINGS !

Anonymous

Didnt Painter have 3 sons who played and Piper 2?ALWAYS BEEN AN AGENDA AT PERKINS IT SEEMS!

Anonymous

Neither Painters nor pipers played as freshmen, I'm not even sure they played at Sophmores. Team Unity, and pride are needed back.

Anonymous

When you have coaches/parents with an Agenda, TEAM UNITY is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE! This TEAM (especially the Sr. & Jr. class) has been dissed from the beg., by certain coaches., the radio station (stating there is no Sr. Leadership), as well as many others. I've heard it come out of their mouths! For some, this was a losing season, before it even started! Great support, thanks! Cause I know our TEAM is much better than the record they have! They say COMMUNICATION is the key...well, that can't be one-sided. Example: We have an injured Sr. player, not just a strain, but an ACUTE COMPLETE TEAR OF THE ULNAR COLLATERAL LIGAMENT, ALONG WITH A BRUISED BONE. According to the doc, first time he's ever seen an acute injury like this, and would be consistant with a helmet to the back of the elbow. LOOKING TOMMY-JOHN SURGERY DEAD IN THE EYE! Haven't rec. one phone call of concern from not one coach, didn't really expect it, since a few feel it was his own fault he got hurt! Seems to me, their only concern was to have him cleared for the Pirate/Panther game. Sorry, no more slapping on of others' braces, or ace bandaging and taping, just to get em back on the field! Although I know it's what he wanted to do, is it always best? Thank you Tim-the-Trainer, Coach Blakely and Coach Speer for your support! Not being sarcastic here, I mean that! Took three weeks for our son to be asked "so, how ya doing?". I pretty much figure that's because I've commented on the complete LACK OF CONCERN REGARDING INJURED PLAYERS SHOWN FROM THE TOP, to someone that may have repeated it? By the way BIRDMAN, I think you can relate to this, as you were treated the same! Keep in mind, we don't write on sites like these to change the world, as much as we do to just put our thoughts out there! For the rest, I've said it before and I'll say it again, unless you're walking a mile in the shoes of, you can't understand! As for attitudes, you're damn straight, cause for Football, it is an ATTITUDE, it's called PLAY WITH HEART, PLAY WITH COURAGE, PLAY TO WIN! Rather than, let's just get through the season! Good luck Pirates, I believe you can win these last few games! And I mean that, from the BOTTOM OF MY HEART! Start BELIEVING it yourselves! PS Don't NEED you to have my back son, can handle that all on my own!

If that last comment was not enough to get your kids out of this system any way you can I dont know what is !!Perkins football is no longer in the hands of winners as we start freshmen in front of good jr. and sr. tight ends so someone can letter this year!!Most parents with upper classmen just wonder how they can try to get away with this. The coaches are throwing these games with there play calling and then blame the kids!!!When the kids dont want to play because the coaches sit around everyday and tell them there the worst football they have ever seen they start to only beleave that way!!Its time to wipe the slate clean and bring in some young coaches to beleave in,Win or lose you got beleave in what your coaches are telling you,and most of these kids quit beleaveing a long time ago.We need a coach they beleave in,not some Bill Belacheak want to be!!!

Anonymous

Its also been noted that coaches have have came to practice drunk this year with no repercussion.

Anonymous

All i acn say is wow NO WONDER WHY THEY HAVE TROUBLE PERFORMING .

Anonymous

I don't go to the game for a reason.... But the way people are saying freshmen are playin over Jr's and Sr's just seems alittle odd. I mean most of the straters this year are Jr's and Sr's and a handful of sophmores. As far as getting drunk before practice i think that is alittle fairy tale some of you are hoping is true, i don't think anyone of those coaches is getting smashed before they have to run a practice, specially when 2 of them are cops... Maybe their are bigger problem then i see but i am only scratching the surface here, i am no longer a student ot athlete anymore so all i can do is look in shock and aww and be embarrassed from time to time. I still have alot of respect for Braush and his staff they are good coaches, he just might have is priorities alittle mixed up right now.

michael painter = center ... michael kennedy = center... brett piper = tackle... jeremiah fennell = tackle... And niether fennell or kennedy starting that year... and yes rock did let it happen. One of the reasons they were 3-7. Then the next year they went 7-3. Hmm...

also that was a long time ago. It shows how out of hand perkins has let it go with brausch's kid playing varsity. I say we send the older brausch packing, and beg farlow to come back. He won a game wit firelands!

Anonymous

Farlow is gone,Brausch needs to go!Time we move on are start a new.

Anonymous

Why as a father would Brausch subject his son to this kind of matter? He may be a great tightend one day,but everyone sees hes not ready yet and this could ruin the kid forever. Not a well thought out plan as a father or a coach,TY.

sandtown

Perkins is a mess and we love it !

Whatever

SANDTOWN must be one of those smcc people who dream of one day winning an all sports trophy

Anonymous

Who won the game THIS year ? D-6 vs D-3 never should happen but hey thanks for not preparing !

Anonymous

Tim Obergefell is an amazing resource who should be tapped. Young blood is what this program needs. The question is, would he do it? He'll need support from the whole township...are we up for that? I say let's go in a new direction!!!!

Anonymous

He has to work harder.HOWEVER,he would do a better job than Brausch.

Anonymous

Why is this story all about the troubles phs is having ? Why not , the panthers out played outcoached and won a crucial game . Remember thye were picked 6th or 7th in the pre-season !

Anonymous

Yes, you did win the game and deserve to be congratulated, so CONGRATULATIONS! That's something that most PHS parents wouldn't be willing to say to you, but I will. We were out-played and out-coached, and that is where the problem for us lies! On our part, I believe it's a portion of a coaching staff that rather than focusing on consistancy in key pos. AND THE TASK AT HAND FB 07, they're focusing more on building next years team! As for Obie (Perkins grad.) being Head coach, I believe he was interviewed (along with Burrows, another Perkins grad))for the position but just didn't measure up to requirements of those (parents) making the decision! Hmmm, kinda makes you wonder why, since Obie is still in an Asst. Pos. as Def. Co-oridinator and Coach Burrows is highly capable of coaching a successfull Track Team (as well as WAS a FB coach for how many years?) these individuals weren't considered qualified enough for the pos. of Head Varsity Football Coach! It's called an AGENDA, AND WAS VERY PERSONAL AND POLITICAL! We see where the decision-making process over the last few years has gotten us, haven't we? Our students deserve better as well as our student-athletes! It's time for ALL THOSE IN TOP-KEY POSITIONS AS WELL AS COACHES at Perkins to ask themselves, do you do it for ALL the kids, or just yours and a chosen few?!

Anonymous

Well said and very true. All of it !Dont forget the other asst. coaches that were run out by this coach because they didnt believe in his agenda. What can be done now ? I would say nothing since they just made him asst. principal.

Anonymous

All i am going to say for the rest of this is Shane Burrows could have and would have been a hell of a varsity football coach, look what he does year in and year out with the track program take them to state and finish in the top 10 5 outta the last 7 years... But like someone said he wasnt qualified enough.... my butt.. qualified enough sure sure sure ur right he has no idea what he is doing, not like he coached 3 all ohio football players, has a state runner up and is about to have a state title this coming spring.

to smcc folk yes love the win all you want but just remember, not to long ago you were the armpit of football in the conference so don't go gloating so fast before your back at where you once were. As for D6 beating D3 who cares really... Seems like some older adults on here just pounce at the chance to cut the pirates down in everything they do. BTW when smcc win an all sports trophy will be the day i enroll my son their but i will bet my life savings that smcc closes before they win a all sports trophy.... stick to cheating and having 2 good sports team a year.

My thoughts

""stick to cheating and having 2 good sports team a year. ""

Wrstling and ????

Bird man we are talking fball here not wrestling , get off your band wagon. If memory serves me right on jj you couldnt do enough bragging on how well the pirates were going to do .Nickle all ohio etc.etc.,NICE SPIN BIRDMAN!

Anonymous

A d3 school should never lose to a d6. I THINK PHS HAD 3x as many kids on sat to choose from.

Anonymous

Sorry if i have alittle pride and confidence in some fellow teamates. As for calling out nickle saying i said he would be an all-ohio selection, find that on jj and email it to me. BBird1@student.cscc.edu because i think and know your full of crap on that. Get your facts straight before you try to SPIN my opinion and thoughts on what i write online.

Who gives a crap about the all sports trophy? The only reason Perkins wins it is because they have the pampered kids that play the country club sports that no one else cares about. They usually suck in the real sports. And I wonder if Burrows would have been as gracious in losing football games as he was when Huron beat Perkins in the dual track meet and he whined and whined to the Register!

Anonymous

shane burrows is not a good choice for head coach, because he plays favorites. That is also y Brausch got rid of him. Brausch was kind of hypocritical considering the family issue.

Another thing burrows lacks morals and is a sore loser. (Our victory 2005-Huron) Also, despite how much many athletes think about him he is known to have had some shady recommendations to his character outside of coaching.
