City doing bang-up job

Wow. The five charter officers are doing a bang-up job for the city of Sandusky, according to the personnel evaluation forms recently completed by city commissioners. It's as if there was no housing scandal, no police department issues, no firefighters threatening to shoot the fire chief.

Everything is hunky dory in the city.

We asked commission president Dennis Murray Jr. whether the Nuessegate integrity probe launched by city manager Matt Kline and law director Don Icsman was covered in their reviews. "I'm sure the issues were on everybody's minds," our would-be state rep said.

On everyone's minds, Mr. Murray, but not one word mentioned in the performance evaluations. Thanks for sharing.

Commissioner Craig Stahl, who prides himself on a being fiscally responsible elected official, said he didn't think it was appropriate to include all the bad stuff because "those are still ongoing."

You got that right, Craig. The city already spent more than $50,000 on the Nuessegate debacle, and the current appeal process is likely going to cost another $100,000, with hired-gun attorneys from Cuyahoga County and retired Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Cirigliano getting the lion's share of that big take. And that's just the beginning.

You're doing a great job, too, Craig.

From reading all this garbage, I think there is probably something to this (looks like a media blitz to me!!! During wartime they call this type of writing 'propaganda') . I mean, if I were an individual reading these blogs and was not familiar with anyone or anything, I believe I would stay as far away from this place as possible, and I sure wouldn't subscribe to a newspaper (and I use that term lightly) that traffics in nothing but gossip, as exemplified in this article. When you get used to being fed slop, I guess just like any other hog, you wouldn't even notice a steak dinner if it were in front of your nose.

You must have liked it or you wouldn't have read it.

Nooooo.... I just happened to notice the stench.

Marina District could open condominiums in spring

SANDUSKY — After months of discussion, the construction at the Marina District could get a quick start with new condominiums scheduled to open as early as this coming spring.

The Commodore Condominiums is taking reservations for the 112 units planned to be built on the site of the Sandusky Bay Pavilion.

“This type of upscale, mid-rise living space is unprecedented along the Lake Erie shoreline,” said John Eymann, manager of Sandusky Marina District Development LLC and of Alternative Development, the company that is promoting the project. “Our goal is to create a first-class, resort-style experience with breathtaking bird’s eye views of the water while offering year-round enjoyment of the marina.”

The 112 units will range from one bedroom to penthouse suites with lofts. Also planned are a private parking deck, a rooftop pool, a fitness facility and a garden-style terrace overlooking Battery Park Marina, Sandusky Bay and Cedar Point.
Sandusky City Commission will give a second reading of the development agreement to create the new Marina District on Sept. 22.

The Commodore Condominiums is the first phase of the Marina District development, which will encompass a series of public and private improvements along the Sandusky shoreline. The project is set to include two additional residential developments, a hotel property and 25,000 square feet of commercial space for retail and restaurant establishments.

It is impossible for this project to be ready in the spring. The "developer" hasn't even filed a set of blueprints with the building department for approval, hasn't done an archeological assessment for Indian Burial grounds, does not have a release from ODNR of the restrictions on the land because of the grant agreement that was made when Surf's Up was built, and hasn't had a hearing about what would be an acceptable replacement for waterfront access that would be required to get a release of the restrictions. The required notice of thirty days to hold the hearing also has not been advertised yet.

FYI: The AFL-CIO North Central Labor Council endorsed Mike Printy . AFL-CIO SOLIDARITY

Taxpayer

I really do not care about what the AFO-CIO endorses. So far they have done very little to help businesses prosper. This mindset of, "If you do not do it our way, we will close you" is definitely NOT working. If I followed everything the union tells me, the nation would be in the same position. I will vote the way I want, not what a bunch of slow losing idiots want. I can still make my own decisions and so far the AFL-CIO has not performed very well at all in helping keep my job secure.

In response to you DO YOU THINK ITS RIGHT! Hey stupid it was a open beer not a DUI! No way you want to complain, you don't have any idea what your talking about!!!!!!!!!

YESTERYEARS is closing. This is their last day.

Yesteryears is closing?! Wonder if my friend, who works there, knows she's out of a job? There has been no mention of it!

SURPRISE!

You DOG You!

You my be correct that the AFL/CIO has done little to help the area to prosper. However, Tom Ferrell has done nothing for Erie County. I'm a life long Democrat who proudly supports Mr. PRINTY for Commissioner. It weould be impossible for him to get less done, than Ferrell has.

Smoochy does less than Ferral...who does less than Monahan.

Anonymous

No one does less than Ferrell. However, Monaghan is a close second. Monaghan is part of the Grubbe-Plumbrook Country Club group. It's called, RISC, Republicans In Sheep's Clothing.

Anonymous

Don't label your problems as "Republicans in Sheeps Clothing". He was good enough to run on your ticket, you gotta claim him now, like it or not.

Anonymous

Are you kidding? Democrats don't have to claim Benedict Arnolds. Ferrell's on his own. He betrayed every principal of the working families of this country. He is truly a RISC! And, Monaghan is one of the same!

Susana did not get a DUI-it was open container on the miller ferry. Which by the way was dismissed due to it being a bull crap charge. Bet the register will never print that because that is not news worthy. Let everyone think the worst...it gets more press.

Anonymous

I thought she got arrested for the open container in a motor vehicle. Did she have an open container in her motor vehicle or not? Why was this dismissed? Maybe this should be looked into by the Register. Was this dropped as a favor for a cop?

Anonymous

Yeah, and THEY ARE both Democrats (whether you want to admit it or not)!!!

what about a sandusky firefighter working for an indicted felon on put-in-bay partime

It sounds to me that alot of people would like the commissioners recalled. If that is the case, why should we trust their opinions (commissioners)? Maybe the GOB's are just polishing some apples with these "glowing reviews.

Anonymous

Typical. Commissioners hiding behind the real issues-incompetance just like the Marina District-ignore the real issues and hopefully they will go away.

Anonymous

In my opinion we only have 2 commissioners....Me and Dennis!

save battery park and public space to our waterfront for our community to enjoy as our past generations have, lets not just give it away to rich people from out of town who will spend the weekend in there marina district condo during the summer as opposed to there yacht. Why not further develop the downtown paper district area before giving away our most valuable asset the waterfront. Chicago for example does not allow development along the waterfront, it is for all citizens and visitors to enjoy and is one element that makes a great city in my opipn, we are giving precious land away to out of town developers for nothing (both monetary and economic relief related to redevelopment), I heard Surfs Up sold for under a million, that is prime real esate. We should all pay more attention to Nuesse and the giving away of our waterfront. I do not normally blog but I think as a community we need to reevaluate the proposed Marina District before it is too late and I figured this would be a good way to get the message out and see if others feel the way I do.

Anonymous

Exactly what part of the waterfront are we talking about here? Didn't the developer plan on public access in these areas? Why do we need to have the city building on the waterfront anyway? Those guys do not need a view of the lake, they should be working. Hey even if you and I can't afford a Commidore Condo, someone will still have to pay the taxes on it. The city needs the money. Sandusky needs a lot of re development. Hopefully after the waterfront, some of these old neighborhoods with dilapadated houses will get fixed up. McArthur Park needs to be bulldozed!

The public will still have access to the waterfront at Shoreline Park, Jackson St. Pier, the city boat ramp, and Lions Park. If the city wanted to develope those as well, I would have a serious problem with that.

I had to go out Venice Road last week, and was held up by a Triple Crown train. Cars were backed up to the intersection of Venice/Rt. 101. I know the trains keep alot of jobs here, but it was ridiculous. Any commissioner who thinks that condos and a hotel/marina are more important than an overpass is an idiot. These "decent jobs" you promise are TEMPORARY! You will get the workers prevailing wages TEMPORARILY! Then we will have more service type jobs, and still no overpass. I beg you to rethink this. What is best for all of Sandusky's residents, not a few rich condo owners or construction workers? I hope no member of your family is on the other side of that train, while needing medical assistance.
