For Baxter, truth is inconvenient

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

Good Old Kevin Baxter can sure spin things away from truth whenever he wants, and a recent letter to the editor is a perfect example. Old Kevin made serious objection to a recent Register editorial critical of his office for issuing a flawed warrant that delayed the arrest of a child rapist.

The man was arrested "just 37 days" after an indictment was returned by a grand jury, Baxter says. I don't know about you, but even 37 days is too long for a child rapist to be free and on the loose. The man was accused in August 2006 and arrested by U.S. Marshals in late December that same year, so the actual delays were much longer than Baxter's spin. And local officials never lifted a finger to make an arrest after the flawed warrant was finally issued.

Baxter ignored repeated requests for documentation on the case and, when questioned directly about it on two seperate occasions, he stared back with a glassy-eyed look and feigned ignorance on the entire topic. How convenient. Play dumb when it serves you, Kevin, and then be filled with righteous indignation when you get called on your shortcomings.

Baxter also ignored written requests for the information, and for information on other flawed warrants that might have resulted in at least one other child rapist getting a free pass in Erie County. There are plenty of examples, but Baxter's abnormal need for secrecy keeps most under the radar.

And Baxter is quick to dump on his best buds whenever he gets put on the hot seat, including pointing the finger at the sheriff or deputies, or old best old bud county commissioner Tom Ferrell Jr. Kevin also will blame city officials for their shortcomings if that helps Kevin's cause. Kevin covers Kevin's butt -- and every other good old boy's behind -- as long as it serves Kevin.

It's time to cut the crap. You cannot fix a problem if you deny it exists, and when the sheriff's office has more than 800 outstanding warrants -- with serious felony crimes getting lost in bureaucracy -- there must be something wrong with the system.

If anyone is misrepresenting the facts, Kevin, it's you.

Mr Baxter , the DR was an upstanding and successful citezen in Erie county for decades. He then purchased a business and made it a big success with the help of fine employees and KJ Baxter.

KJ Baxter was in office as the Erie county Treasurer but left office because he Was Honest and didn't get paid enough to support his then growing family.

Judy Baxter was attending Nurses training out of town and would come home to party at Daddy's Bar.

Jim Baxter was supposed to run the kitchen at the Stone house but mostly just sat around drinking at the bar. The one that KJ worked at night after night. and Selling Pot out of his house next door.

Then Kevin would storm home all good looking and full of energy drinking Daddys' free booze and dropping acid.

Daddy passes away....The stone house just closes, for no good reason...um I remember something about refusing to pay Sandusky property taxes or some such crap.

KJ scrapes enough cash to use family ties to purchase a pub and resturant downtown...hmmm paying taxes in the place that the Stone house didn't want to pay? Hmmmmm

Then Mr Jim goes into real estate....Hmmm wonder how business was sitting at bro KJ's bar drinking for free.

Then Kevin passes the bar exame and is emediately the Erie County Prosecutor.

Is or could Kevin hiding or protecting some of his own family? Is he doing the things he is doing because someone there...Really Old Money in the county...holding something over Kevin...All things are possible I'm sure.

However it doesn't keep these folks from at least trying to keep up with the everyday business of police work and prosecutioin of The lawless. Are their hands tied in keeping Sandusky safe from criminals? For putting forth and emplamenting a sound set of laws and practices that in fact would be more efficient then they are now?

Sandusky is so full of hate. The attacks on Baxter are just outrageous. You all need to get help with all this GOB and conspiracy theories you have. Westerhold just feeds this hate. I hope the register is happy with all this poison it is feeding everyone.

Dear City,
I speak only for myself when I say I don't hate mr Baxter or anyone else! I don't like the things going on in our community that's all! I don't wish Mr. Baxter Jail time nor do I wish him and his family anyharm. I would like him to be acountable thats' all. Like all officials that were voted or hired into office should be. All things made public and available to all persons that help pay them!

Some of these judges should be held accountable, too. Like who in the hell do they think they are, anyway? They think because they put on a robe they can make up their own LAWS?

Anonymous

My thinking is: "Why did it take you so long Matt to figure out what we all knew?

Hey City Of Hate, what about all of the poison and lies that YOU posted on here the past few months? The tables are turning on you and you are getting scared. Isn't nice for you and your buddies to feel the heat?

Somebody gave you the opportunity to provide intelligent answers to Questions, Questions and more Questions but nobody did............

Having been the victim of what appears to be the product of judicial malfeasance, created by certain members within the Erie County system, I can tell you from personal experience that the term "swept under a carpet" is a common practice in this area. For anyone who does not believe that there is something terribly wrong here, start researching the facts and you will uncover some disturbing truths about Erie County. If everyone were to come foreward with any grievances that they might have, a great deal of progress would be made toward solving the problem. There are no prosecutors in the State of Ohio that have as many negative accusations lodged against them as Kevin J. Baxter. That in itself makes him a force to be reckoned with, because he is generally feared by the public solely upon the reputation that he has received. Maybe, someone with a far better vision for Erie County will run against Kevin, although the prospect for that seems rather dim at best. But the one thing that we can all count on is that the truth will definitely prevail, hopefully sooner than later and it is certain that a positive change is on its way.

wonder if the judges are wearing anything under those black robes. tone, binette, delematre probably flashing everyone while riding up and down in the old elevator wearing there thigh hi nylons garter belt and hi heeled shoes.those court house screeners probably getting a thrill when they walk through the x-ray machine

Sam

Bob, were you convicted by Kevin or his staff, sure sounds like sour grapes! Does your nurse know you are on-line during rehab?

When Baxter got elected many many moons ago nobody expected that he would keep the job permanently. Hardly seems legal that him and his buds are getting away with this...

I used to work with Krista Harris. What happened to her? I remember she had to go to court years ago for something big, but I didn't keep track of her and the case.

AREN'T ALL PARTIES REQUIRED TO BE PRESENT AT PRE-TRIAL HEARINGS? SO HOW COME PROBATE HAS CLOSED-DOOR HEARINGS? CONSIDERING HOW YOUR LORAIN COUNTY ATTORNEY BUDDY SMIRKED WHEN HE WALKED OUT OF THE CLOSED DOOR HEARING THE POMPOUS CROOK SURE MUST OF KNOWN IT WASN'T LEGAL.

Anonymous

Krista Harris was convicted of bilking an elderly family member out of 10s of thousands of dollars. She was the POA I believe, and spent the money on herself instead of the family member. Her being in prison was a result of this. As far as all those allegations against Mr.Baxter, it sounds like a wild story to me.

Anonymous

What were the allegations against Baxter from Harris? Is Harris still in prison? I thought she was caught up in something else.

Anonymous

Was she the elderly family member's legal POA?

Anonymous

Who filed the charges against her? The person she was the POA of?

Anonymous

Where did she use the POA? Did the POA give her specific rights? It must have or else she wouldn't have been able to use it. How did the elderly family member find out what she was doing? If she was using a POA it would have to be on file in the Recorder's office. Not too many financial institutions will accept a POA if its not proven to be a valid document and on file. Did she have to pay the money back? Didn't she make a bunch of allegations against Baxter? Was she a friend of his?

Anonymous

Who was the elderly family member--her mother, aunt, sister? Was the elderly family member COMPETENT when all this was done? If so wasn't the family member getting statements from the bank or wherever the POA was being used? Where was this case at---the Erie County Common Pleas Court? Who was the judge? Something sure doesn't sound right......

Anonymous

I knew a couple of people who were POA for elderly relatives. They used POA to transfer assests from the elderly to other bank accounts to protect the assets in case the elderly person had to go into a nursing home. Medicaid takes all of your assets while in a nursing home. Maybe Harris was trying to protect the assets from Medicaid. I know of several well to do people who have created trusts to protect assets from Medicaid.

Anonymous

You might know of several people who have created trusts to protect their assets from Medicaid but do these people know that trusts can easily be changed by falsfying records and forgery?

Anonymous

If Harris was trying to protect assets from Medicaid why is she in jail?

Anonymous

DID BAXTER PROTECT HIS MOTHER'S ASSETS FROM MEDICAID? IF SO, WHERE DID HE "TRANSFER" THE ASSETS?

Anonymous

I agree. Something doesn't sound right in that Harris case....ISN'T IT A CONCIDENCE THAT BAXTER WAS INVOLVED!!!!

Anonymous

I'm not to familiar with the Judges in Erie County but does anybody know who the Probate Judge was when Mrs. Baxter passed away? Does anybody know who Mrs. Baxter's lawyer was?

Reading the Daily Log from yesterday, I noticed a log note that Nicholas Barylski was arrested for DUI. I believe he is Mary Ann Barylski the Chief Prosectuor for the county. It must run in the family since his father was arrested by the Highway Patrol a few years ago. If I am not mistaken they had to Taser him too. Just hope mom does put her foot in this and it get swept under the rug
