Sandusky taxpayers lose big

Matt Westerhold
Mar 23, 2010

Team Nuesse and the city's crack shot legal team kept me cooling my jets this morning, waiting to testify at the Kim Nuesse civil service hearing. They also kept waiting acting Perkins police Chief Robb Parthemore and Lt. Al Matthews, and former Perkins police Chief Tim McClung.

The attorneys involved in the case spent Monday morning behind closed doors wrangling over a subpoena issued for testimony from a Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent. Hmm. That's the story, anyway.

I'd say there's a 50-50 chance I'll never be asked to take the stand, and the judge right now is pushing hard for both sides to reach a settlement and make this thing go away.

If that happens, everybody wins.

Except taxpayers.

I know Ms. Nuesse and I know the facts of the case. Just as soon as the city reinstates her and apologizes for their many errors, I am prepared to hire her ASAP.

Anonymous

your breath Correct Resoulution.

Anonymous

Where might that be...lol
Sounds good anyway.

Both sides have too much to lose at this point to settle. Besides, the City already has this case fixed regardless of the evidence - so it's only a matter of making a record, not influencing an outcome. The federal case will be the big money case - not this.

I am waiting to see your rebuttal on what Baxter wrote in the Opinion section of Sundays paper. He is truly an a$$ and I am hoping for some good, fluid reading from your hand to my eyes! Strike back at that monster!

Sam

Matt the first rule of journalism, DO BECOME PART OF THE STORY, did you miss that class?

Anonymous

All this is very boring and wasting taxpayer dollars. Be done with the childish ways.

Anonymous

Matt you have the inside track, just like when you were at her house listening to her talk to the commissioner's on the phone. You know what's going on. You know when this is settled, there will be no huge pay off and no federal law suit will be able to be filed. You know that the gag order and records will be sealed. You know that you should only be able to write one last article, because this is over. If this doesn't work it's way out all the way to a court ruling, all you have to do is keep writing that everyone else was wrong and she was right. But you know it's over and it's got to be disheartening that you'll never know the truth, just what you've been told but you'll get to keep her on your pedestal. Maybe she will start doing cops and courts and government stories for the SR as posted by correct resolution and be a thorn in elected officials behind for years to come, at least as long as Mattie is Editor, am I close???

Matt Westerhold and the Sandusky Register did not create this mess, the good ole boys did. Stop going after the messanger. This whole thing was created by Prosecutor Baxter and the cops that can't put down their jelly
donuts and work. Guess who has to pay for these crooked people in office....TAXPAYERS! Stop blaming the messanger!!!

Anonymous

I hope after Kim gets vindicated Baxter and the rest crooks go on trial, and go to jail. Go get em Ron Baily!

Anonymous

Besides that...NUESSE created this mess. And still going at it.

K Rons a POS too ask him about that kid he killed

Gulliver

Matt you deserve to be commended for giving this injustice such a high profile. I can only image the flack you are taking. Please know the silent majority are in favor of what you are doing.

As for the negative comments that come from commenters like JOE FRIDAY, THATS MESSENGER,SAM and I have to wonder... Are these people blogging from the laptops inside their police car, when they should really be patroling the city?

This case is just a small example of how the corrupt legal system in Erie County works----the corrupt legal system that Baxter and the rest of them want hidden. Keep up the good work, Matt. It's unreal what they have gotten away with in this County for years and will continue to get away with if it's unknown.

Anonymous

for that hard hitting editorial. You truly do earn your 5.00 an hour paycheck....could you have put less thought into anything?? How does it feel to be most disliked "person" in the city Matt??

Anonymous

for that short but not so sweet VERY TRUE editorial.

Anonymous

Of course the taxpayers get cheated. The judicial system in Erie County CHEATS people all the time with their sneaky conspiracies and their unlawful agendas. The judicial system in Erie County has about as much respect for the taxpayers as they do the LAW, which is zilch.

Probate Court is the only institution that is set up for the single purpose of STEALING FROM THE DEAD.

Anonymous

WRONG. Probate court is the only institution (in Erie County anyway) that is set up for the single purpose of concealment of criminal acts by attorneys and financial institutions against the elderly when they are still LIVING. This is done when the crooks know the elderly person is totally incompetent, seriously ill and dying. This is not done for the criminal motive of STEALING from the dying person----it's done to criminally change their wishes in life AT THE END OF THEIR LIVES and STEAL ( or assist others in STEALING ) what they intended for members of their families.

keep telling you fools over and over and over....

I can hardly believe that you are a silent majority. Your comment sounds like so many that have been here before. I will tell you that I, "that's mesenger", am not a police officer, not even close. I am a citizen of Sandusky who has an opinion just like you. I am entitled to that, just like you. Too bad that my opinion does not agree with you. Too bad that you just have no idea what you are talking about. You can not go by what you read in the SR, the whole truth is never printed, that is your first mistake. Anyway, have a nice day.

Kudos to Matt Westerhold...he seems to be one of the few people in Erie County who is not afraid to exhibit his opinion in regards to matters which should be of great concern to ALL OF US. For those of you who wish his departure from the area...did it ever occur to you that if he were to leave, then you would be left TOTALLY in the dark about matters that directly affect you as a citizen of this failing town? Would you rather just move along merrily in a state of denial, or would you rather excercise your right to disseminate the truth of the matter in whichever way that YOU see fit for it to be. Don't ever allow yourselt to abandon the freedom to choose.

wow what a way to waste our tax money!!!! thought there would of maybe been a clown with balloons there as well. good job matt, the city always hires dumb crack shot lawyers. and wow did u ever offend that judge lol what a retard. every one is in title to there oppion its or it was a free country.

I dont think I have ever seen someone more uncomfortable under sire than Matt. Hopefully this isnt the best that K Ronald Baily can do for a witness. The city's attorney brought out your ignorance and lack of honesty. In case you didnt catch the Judges point at the end Matt, he was implying that you also have inaccuracies in your blogs, which you have gone back and corrected, just like Baxter whom you crucify for doing...get it now Matt???

Anonymous

The city's ATTORNEY brought out Matt's ignorance and lack of honesty? Oh my God! I can't speak for all attorneys but I sure can speak for the ones I DO know. Talk about IGNORANT! I'm still contemplating writing a book about them.

"Just because your mother passed away in late 2002 doesn't mean she didn't have the capacity to continue signing checks for two years after her death".

I agree with the poster - Matt got spanked. I would also like to mention the fact that it was brought up that Mr. Westerhold was once involved with and or worked for the Baxter family for 6 months. Does that make Mr. Westerhold any more impartial than Judge Cirigliano regarding this case?Does that disqualify him from reporting on this case?

curious

When did Matt work for the Baxter family? Doing what? Back when he was a kid, maybe? Cutting grass or something? Inquiring minds want to know.

Anonymous

He worked at Daly's Irish Pub when he was in high school. The Baxters owned the bar at that time.
