This week on Between the Lines, Register managing editor Matt Westerhold hosts guests from Ebenezer Baptist Church to talk about the church expansion controversy.
What a shame. Many outstanding residents attend this church. Fighting on Hancock, all the drugs and gangs and we can't pray in peace!
Hold on...I want to know MORE about the conversation when Tristam said , "when we were called to ask the pastor for his resignation"...Tristam said that he told Deacon Damon that Pastor Howard may need him BACK THERE..back where ?? And WHY on Earth would Pastor Howard need anyone? Who CALLED them to ask for his resignation?? Something doesn't sound right to me. I think Tristam was worried what might happen to the pastor when he was BACK THERE. Kudos to him for giving a Heads Up..Who knows what might have happened to the pastor without the deacons HELP.
All hail Satan
It sounds like that meeting at which those members were removed was an ambush and not done in a forethright manner at all according to what this Trishtam is saying.
And to top it off, only "factions within the congregation" were told of it". WOW. This is pretty sneaky and deceitful on the part of this Pastor Howard.
No wonder they are having such trouble. I am surprised the entire congregation is signing the petiton to have him and his "assistants" removed after the cops were called.
I think Pastor Howard better start packing his bags and bidding this church a fond farewell. He may not be pastor very much longer. It appears his days may be numbered.
No wonder the Pastor didn't want to be on there.
What really is the point of this? How really is this going to make anything better by airing your churches dirty laundry like this? Personally it sounds like the group trying to get the pastor removed is just as crazy as the pastor. I realize this next statement is just my old fashion opinion, but brother Craig really should have taken out his dangling earring before this interview. Tacky!!
@ herestherealtruth....yes, it is your old fashion opinion, but what does his earring have to do with what he said?
Truthfully, the people who called the police on the parishoners of this church brought this to the attention of the community. They are responsible for the "airing of the church's dirty laundry". And from the sounds of it, there is plenty of it. All of this sounds like a cat fight gone terribly wrong.
This is crazy. This chruch is letting the new pastor destroy this church which has been around for centuries. What is the point of a new pastor and a expanded chruch.. If you have no members to pay for it? Get rid of the trouble maker pastor and look for a new one. Is he worth keeping if he destroys the very foundation of the church and its name. It may never recover from this mess.

Dear Humbug: You are not alone. Other churches have experienced very similar circumstances. One like yours tore apart my church about 2 years ago. There are some rogue pastors in this world, and the devil is at work in them. You are right to complain. You are right to separate yourself from this pastor and anyone who supports him. I sympathize with you and what you are trying to accomplish. You are right to seek legal help. Keep going with God's guidance. I support you. Praise God that you have the courage to stand up for what is right!!!
