I cannot not do this

Kristin Gleis
Mar 23, 2010

I once said,” I can't do that.” As I spoke those very words, I was told, “Can't means you won't."

Now, that I am 26 years old and have three children to raise, I preach those same words to them. “Can't means you won't.” I have even gone as far as to tell the girls “can’t” is not a word that should be used in our home.

I find it amusing that I can tell my three children not to use the word “can't,” but I am unable to refrain from speaking that word. There are many times during my workday, I find myself telling a co-worker “I can't do that” or “I can't do this.” When in all reality, I can do this or that, I just choose to be lazy and not do it.

This lazy “I can’t” attitude has recently been brought to my attention. I would like to apologize if I have came across as ungrateful that I was chosen to be a part of this FIT Challenge. I appreciate this wonderful opportunity to share my weight loss struggle with the many of you that read these blogs.

I would like to thank you again for all the positive comments and feedback I have received. When I seem to be negative about my weight loss thus far, I do not mean to come across that way.

I am my own worst enemy, as I am sure most of you are, too. When you are overweight, you are always the hardest on yourself. No one else cares if you eat that cookie or if you eat the candy bar that you swear is calling out to you from the vending machine at work, only you do. You are the only one that is mad at yourself after you ate that cookie; you are the only person saying, “Oh, I should not have done that.”

When I don't see that scale move as much as I want then I am mad at myself. Please don't get me wrong. I am very pleased that I have lost 21 pounds and 19.5 inches. I know many of you reading this would switch with me in a heartbeat to be able to have the chance I have been given.

For the first time I think since the children came to live with me, I surprised them and took them to the park on March 15. The kids were so excited that I was playing with them. I was actually out of the car and on the swings and going down the slides with them. I was so happy and felt so good that I was able to do this. I am finally starting to get the energy to go outside and play with my kids, and that is a feeling, words cannot describe.

“With God, all things are possible.” I also went to church on March 15. I am not the most religious person, but I do believe in God and I do believe that with God on my side I am able to accomplish anything.

Remember that other saying “God does not give us more than we can handle.” I am thankful that God believes in me so much he allowed me this chance to share it with all of you. I am also thankful for Brandi Barhite, without her I would not be writing this blog. She is the editor who picked my essay for the contest. Last, but not least, personal trainer Tyra James. You have taught me so much about myself in just three short months. I can't wait to see what else I learn from you in the months to come. Again, to all you readers, thank you, thank you for all your support.

I wish to congratulate you on these guidelines. As a direct result of your efforts, I have subscribed to the e-paper. I will carry that further once I feel that those who choose to insult us with their inappropriate remarks are eliminated from the privilege of posting. This newspaper and the forum that you provide should never have been allowed to be entertainment for those who insult, degrade, or threaten others.

Jason your killing me. I know that you are busy with the Nuesse circus and all, but we are sick of reading blogs about old people or why we should advertise with the Register.

Please, you and Tom Jackson are the only ones that can save us from lousy blogs. Dig us out of the morass and save us.

first off There is almost no politicion that can be trusted. Matt has this one correct, in my opinion she was railroaded and I am sorry but timing of the lawsuit seams correct to me, this is about over so it is time to start on the next front. To me it is smart for an attorny to deal with one legal battle at a time.

Although I want Nuesse gone, I do not trust Fuqua. I worked with him at Ford and he was the worst Union Rep there. When he was suppose to be on duty, he was seen riding around town with his convertables' top down.

Mr. Westerhold, I've been waiting for someone to kick the rocks over and expose what is really hiding there. You've got exactly what Sandusky needs, the editorial integrity to write about what the majority of us have know for years. Anyone that has half-a-brain should be disgusted with Cirigliano. Disgusted with the Prosecutor. Disgusted with the spineless members that take up about 3 seats on the city commission. Thank you Matt for doing just what Fuqua wanted. He always wanted to be in the limelight. But that pretty face has an empty space behind it. We need people in this town leadership with principals. Strong ones like Kim Nuesse. Keep writing Matt. Keep Cirigliano nervous. You have a strong quiet majority cheering you on. This is just the tip of the iceburg.

I think the commissioners are used to 'rallying' behind their sisters and brothers on the council. When it comes to right and wrong behaviour, they need to dig deep on facts before they speak.

I sincerely hope that the people on the commission look at what they have done, and their contribution to this mess and answer some direct questions.

Who knew in advance that this 'meeting' was being called? (and violated the sunshine law?)
Who knew that Nussee had complaints about Kline?
Who REALLY examined those complaints and didn't just accept them or dismiss them.
Who on that commission can say they work at representing this city beside Dave Waddington?
Who is willing to stand up for what is right and just on that commission and admit they made a BIG mistake?

I don't expect to get answers to these question, it would just be tabled until it hopefully went away.

That is how Sandusky is run, now, and before. How sad that is.

Pimping for lawyers eh? Any political donations involved?

The socialist pols pushed Fanny and Freddie to force the banks to increasingly offer low interest loans to low income people in order to increase overall home ownership.

See:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/0...

It's circular since happy home owning voters help to elect politicians that in turn makes them happy. Don't worry be happy.

Now the socialist pols want people to become squatters?

Where's Comrade Congresswoman Kaptur live? Bet it’s nice.

Maybe people would like to begin squatting in houses in her affluent neighborhood?

Winston Smith

I've been hearing anecdotal information for weeks that a high number of the folks whose home value is underwater in relation to their mortgage just want OUT!

Home ownership is a burden that some people just aren’t willing to accept. I work to keep my home well maintained; it's expensive and time consuming.

Some people simply prefer the ease of renting.

Are well-intentioned boy and girl scouts dragging seniors across a street that they don’t want to cross?

Kind of sad, I am jewish and did not have one single problem in the U.A.E. Of the 17 countries I have been too, the UAE ranks in the top 3. Dubai was amazing. After a visit there I realized that the USA is not as great as we think we are. The technology and infrastructure over there beats us hands down.

Today, after listening in part to yet another of Obama's grandiose schemes to reward reckless personal over consumption with public funds, I began to wonder how long it would be before there's a taxpayer revolt.

Ok I once again have to disagree with you Matt. The reason this was a secret, is because had it gotten out that the drug dogs were coming, how many of the kids do you think would have left the drugs at home. I have a child at Perkins High School and another at Briar Middle School. I hear from My HS student about the drugs that are coming into the school and have contacted the school on several occasions. The drug dogs searched the school and found nothing, but the Principal would not allow them to search cars in the lot, where the drugs are being kept.... I mean c'mon im not an expert, but dont you think that if someone is dealing in the school they would do it in the parking lot before and after school. I for one am glad the Police Department did this. Why is it no one cared when they went through Sandusky HS???? How is it the fact this was a secret so hard for all these yuppie parents to figur out??? Hey kids next week on Thursday at 9am we will be searching the school for drugs....does this make any sense.....I promise you, search that parking lot and you will find them!!

Ken wow 30 lbs! You are well on your way. Nobody said it would be easy, keep the picture of the Grand Canyon in front of you! Just do it!

To Mr. Kaptur: Get a lawyer because every Judge told you that? Boy! Do I have a story for you.....

SAY MATT, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KLINE-WHINE? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT/WHO THE CLOSE DOOR MEETING WAS ABOUT. WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF U?

Matt, I think you need to check your link... could it be jango.com?

If you have the new G1 Google phone there is an app on there that does the same thing.

What about on the forum, or have you forgotten about that part of your site?

joecitizen, doesn't anyone understand what unconstitutional means? If the schools were teaching rights properly, every student in those schools would understand that the cops need probable cause to search, (even with a drug dog) and then they would only be able to search the student in question....not the whole school. Of course there are loopholes, and that is what they are using to do this, that doesn't make it lawful, or right.

Julie R.

Hey Matt, interesting how the good old boys aren't crucifying you anymore.....compliments of duh judge, maybe?

Why dont you just get over this...cant you see Matt is trying to move past the Nuesse thing, cant you just accept this and try not to provoke him into speaking out against the city again. Havent you heard enough from this "trial" yet???? Geezz...get over it!!

For yrs., I've enjoyed listening to Rick Santelli's analysis from the floor of the CBOT on the action in FOREX and bond trading.

On Feb 18, 2009 8:16 PM I called the revolt!

WAY before Mr. Limbaugh - Thankyouverymuch.

Watch and listen to Santelli's 'rant':

This man speaks for many of us.

To joecitizen1: Mind your own business. Thank you.

I appreciate the SR being on top of this circus. I am wondering how corrupt the SPD and City Government would be without this oversight. I think we are only seeing the tip of this iceburg. Good job and thanks to the SR.

Matt Damon

she is going to get laughed out of federal court... if you want to accuse someone of sexual harassment, do it right after the fact, not months after.. especially such minor stuff like this... only in sandusky could such a meaningless story become the highlight of the newspaper, but hey i cant knock on Matt too much, he's doing what he has to do to keep the views high on here..

NOTJUSTABYSTANDER

Re: Matt Damon You obviously know nothing about how the federal court handles this kind of complaint! Unlike Sandusky Officials, the Feds will be all over this! And FYI, there are times when a situation is at a point when you can't immediately DO anything, but people do know and see! From the beginning, before Kim even got here these CLOWNS were making comments about her! Go for it Kim, you can't buy your good name or your work ethics back, but it's sure nice to vacation in say Hawaii to get a new perspective!!

sandusky neighb...

Like u said brett just wants to fit in, i have been harrased at work and u hold it in for awhile hoping it will stop before u come forward and let the boss know whats going on. If it was his wife he wouldnt say she waited until March would u brett

Here we go again, eh Matt. I was wondering how long it would take you to pull the Nuesse card again. First off I would like to know what you mean by Brett Fuqua not being allowed to be a "Good Ole' Boy" but he can do their dirty work??? Is that a racial comment Matt?? Are you going to not only play the "Sexism" card in regards to Kim Nuesse, but now you're entering the "Race" arena as well?? You just dont know when to shut that big fat mouth of yours do you Matt. Were your last few editorials not giving you the hate mail that you so love? So you had to come back out with something about Kim Nuesse and add a little "Racism" to it as well Matt?

This "game" Nuesse is playing is a sad attempt at trying to squeeze more money out of the city and then turn around and say THAT is what she is most concerned about, the City. You called this trial a "Dog and Pony Show", well why have you not mentioned that it is Kim who started the show?? As Matt Kline said this is her right to "Due Process" and yes she has the right, but SHE is the one who initiated it, thus she is the one who is allowing it to drag on. So now there's this other lawsuit, what will you call this trial Matt?? Will you have a cool little name for it as well?? There is a reason Matt that the Lorain Journal's subscriptions have sky rocketed and the SR's have plummeted, it is you. How proud your employers must be. You will never be anything more than a two bit "Editor" of the Sandumpsky Register and because the only thing you can write about that doesnt make people want to fall asleep is this. When this is over Matt and sooner or later it will be, then what?? What will you write about then?? This seems to be your "go to" story when you see that the page that has your "editorials" is only good for lining the bottom of someone's hampster cage, so I cant wait to see....you are so pathetic Matt.

Anonymous

One more thing Matt, Brett Fuqua is a good man and has always been looked at as a stand up citizen in this community. Why do you continue attacking good people Matt??

Winston Smith

IMO, most people-on-the-street if asked, would say that 60s R&R was 'classical' music.

Truth-be-told, Mozart and the rolled over Beethoven were writing the pop tunes of their day.

Can you imagine that in some distant future Hip Hop will be categorized as 'classical?'

I recently ‘discovered’ a group called Fleet Foxes.

Nice harmonies and they sounded to me like a combo of early Yes with a touch of Moody Blues.

Amazon described them in part as ‘… a group trafficking in baroque harmonic pop.’
